Last week, the city of Baltimore, Maryland once again passed the grim milestone of seeing more than 300 murders in 2021 and there’s still more than a month to go. This is the seventh straight year that Charm City has broken that barrier. Crime rates of most types are also up around other parts of the state. In response, Governor Larry Hogan once again proposed legislation to combat the ongoing problem. His “refund the police” initiative would invest $150 million into state and local police departments to hire more officers and upgrade equipment.

Because they don't just say "Black Lives Matter," they actually believe it.

All Maryland Governors have always sent more money to Baltimore. It's Maryland's money pit. Sending more money to fund a Baltimore Police departments that is corrupt and led by corrupt city bureaucrats won't change a thing.

The Community "supports" the po-lice until they are needed as witnesses or for information. Then it clams up, Snitches get Stitches Omerta sets in. And try hiring more officers...most applicants can't pass the drug test, polygraph, or criminal record review. One day both sides will figure this out. In the meantime, there is nowhere in Charm City one is safe. Not even the Inner Harbor or stadiums. Good luck, MD...

If I lived there, I would want the city to burn to the ground. Then I could help rebuild it into something better.

Baltimore MD has always been corrupt. This isn't a recent problem for them. Pelosi's own father and brothers were deeply involved in the running of Baltimore where she herself was born. Baltimore has a deep root of evil, and it isn't just the politicians. The Catholic diocese there has had its own tentacles wrapped tightly around City Hall as well since at least back in the late 40's. Even today, when the diocese says jump, city hall says 'how high'? You want to know just how deep the corruption is? Watch the documentary entitled The Keepers. It is about the horrific death of Sister Kathy, a beloved nun who taught at the Catholic high school in Baltimore. She was murdered because she tried to stop the priest who happened to be the principal there from sexual abuse of the girls at the school. Those girls have grown up and are trying to get justice for the Nun they loved.

Out there in the real world, people understand that the best tool that we have to minimize crime is the police and the justice system. Of course, the police arresting people becomes irrelevant when prosecutors won't lay charges, or the charges are far less serious than the actual crimes. So, without good, fair, hard working prosecutors, the system still can't work, no matter how many police and how well they do their jobs.

When Debra Haaland snuck through confirmation (with 51 votes) to become the Secretary of the Interior, everyone who had been paying attention knew that she was going to be gunning for the oil and gas industry. That made her a valuable ally for Joe Biden, who began working to shut down pipeline construction and “pause” energy exploration on public lands within hours of being sworn in. (Unless the pipeline is owned by Russia, of course, in which case he basically finances it.) Now, with gas prices spiking dramatically and in the midst of what is

Biden administration climate czar John Kerry is drawing scrutiny from Republicans for downplaying and trying to derail legislation against China’s use of Uyghur forced labor, from which Kerry and his wife seem to benefit financially. The Biden administration is officially against China’s use of forced labor from its Uyghur minority population, which Chinese companies are suspected of using in the manufacturing of solar panel parts.

Rittenhouse’s two-week trial for the shooting of three men during the 2020 Kenosha riots concluded on Friday with a not guilty jury verdict. Kelly, a 42-year-old, 19-year police veteran and father of three, was ten months away from his pension vesting when the Norfolk Police Department fired him.

We recently looked at a report showing that the new infrastructure bill is a prime target for fraud, with analysts predicting that as much as 15% of the money being made available will be illicitly taken. The bill contains very few provisions to prevent that from happening. Today’s story out of California should serve as a reminder that the last rounds of COVID relief were similarly targeted by thieves and the problem is still ongoing.

Could it really be possible? Is disgraced former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo seriously considering mounting a political “comeback” and trying to take back his old job as Attorney General? There’s plenty of reason to doubt this story (as we’ll get to in a moment), but multiple outlets began reporting it yesterday, so let’s at least take a look. The story first broke in the New York Post and was later followed up at Mediaite. Other local outlets in the Empire State quickly began putting in calls requesting comment.

Is it possible that the same event can give you hope, and dash all hope, all at the same time? Indeed it is. Glenn Youngkin’s win in Virginia last Tuesday is just such an event. Just days before Youngkin’s victory, in my article “Democrats Are Imploding; All Is Well, Right?” I said that in fact all is very much NOT well. I ensured you that Youngkin was going to win, but noted that the Democrats do one thing very well – they don’t ever quit: I said the Democrats, and those who identify with them, are stupid. I didn’t say they were just going to quit.

President Joe Biden conceded Wednesday that inflation was a problem, three months after dismissing it as temporary. “Everything from a gallon of gas to loaf of bread costs more,” Biden said during an event promoting his infrastructure bill in Baltimore. “And it’s worrisome, even though wages are going up.” The president took a sharply different tone from his comments in July, when he dismissed rising costs and inflation as temporary and nothing to worry about. “Some folks have raised worries that this could be a sign of persistent inflation. But that’s not our view,” he said at the White House on July 19.

As of Thursday, this tale of a magic castle in Colombia (or something) is expected to gross just $26 million over three days and an anemic $38.6 million over the full five-day holiday. First off, no one can blame streaming. This is a theatrical-only release. Secondly, no one can blame the pandemic. Plenty of movies are opening just fine. How bad is this? Oh, it’s bad. By comparison, one of Disney’s biggest bombs, The Good Dinosaur, grossed $55.4 million over the five-day Thanksgiving weekend.

Democrats have long wanted the government to parent or co-parent your children, so it shouldn’t surprise anyone that President Joe Biden said the quiet part out loud Monday night. Is the administration upset that you might be spending too much time with your family? The statement is also rather vague. The “nearly 2 million” number, I assume, represents the 1.8 million-woman reduction in our labor force during the COVID-19 pandemic. But it’s untrue to claim this loss is only due to women leaving work to care for a family member. There are myriad reasons why the pandemic and government-induced shutdowns could have diminished the female workforce.

I reported earlier today on the announcement about the new COVID variant out of South Africa that immediately had some freaking out because it was supposedly “heavily mutated” and that the spike protein was “dramatically different.” That raised questions about whether immunity and the vaccines would be protective against it. There were also suggestions that it was “highly contagious among young people.” So, it seemed obvious they were gearing up to go crazy over this again. Then we reported on Dr. Anthony Fauci claiming they needed more time and information to decide on whether they needed to be talking about travel bans, that they wouldn’t be implementing a travel ban yet.

In early August Gideon Schreiber and a team of virologists at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel began playing around with the spike protein of the Sars-CoV-2 virus–the protein that allows the virus to enter our cells–to see if they could predict future mutations that could yield dangerous new variants of Covid-19. At the time, Schreiber noted with concern that there were a variety of ways in which the spike protein could evolve. If all of these mutations occurred at once, it could yield a variant that was both extremely transmissible and potentially capable of evading some of the body’s immune defences
