There’s an opinion piece in today’s NY Times titled “Everyone’s Moving to Texas. Here’s Why.” Author Farhad Manjoo lives in San Francisco with his family but admits that he often finds himself wondering why.
I’ve lived in California nearly all my life, and it’s still more likely than not that I will remain here; reports of a sudden “exodus” from the state are frequently exaggerated. Still, there’s plenty going wrong — soaring housing costs, devastating poverty and inequality, and the cascading disasters brought about by a change in what was once our big selling point, the climate. Not a month goes by that I don’t wonder what I’m doing here.

Agree with the critics toward the end of the article: Texas totally sucks. You'll hate it here. We'll try to keep from abandoning it and moving to your state and overcrowding it, but for your own sake, Do Not Move Here.
We have huh-YUGE cockroaches, by the way.

Heck, my wife (a native Texan) insists that Texas needs to erect a border wall. Not on the southern border, but the northern, eastern and western borders. I agree with her, but I add a cattle guard around Austin to keep the looney liberals there somewhat corralled.

#1 is right. Texas is a terrible, horrible, no-good place. You need to stay in California. Really. No, really.

I'm with #1. I have lived in Texas my whole life.
It's a "terrible" place. Seriously. Terrible!!! You don't want to move here. Seriously. Just a bunch of massively red-necked hicks who openly carry assault rifles and giant pistols, and shoot them just for the fun of it. There is a church on every corner, and you will be massively shunned if you don't attend at least 3 times weekly. And all the other stereotypes that liberals have about Texas -- they are all true!!! 100%. And even more so!!!
So stay in the wonderful state you live in now, or move to one of those liberal paradise "blue" states. But don't come to Texas, you will hate it here!!!

Why are people moving out of blue states and moving to red states.
1. Sick of high taxes.
2. Sick of high crime.
3. Sick of liberals (I know a lot or red people stuck in blue NY).
4. They got red pilled.
5. They want to screw up red states.
It could a combination of one or more but #5 has me worried.

Well, we now understand how OR, WA felt when their beautiful and once quite Republican and conservative areas were invaded by wealthy Californians. Governor Abbott’s signs about not “Californicating Texas” are same ones Oregon put up years ago. They are in Montana too! We are just the last and biggest state to deal with this.
Unfortunately, the barn door is already wide open and politicians are courting ever more corporations to come here. Its good and yet I look at Frisco, Rockwall and other once quite unique rural little places and wonder at what cost. Its all melding into DFW sprawl and concrete.
I only wish cockroaches and sticky heat would somehow curb the growth but the lure of jobs & money (just what happened to CA) will overshadow bugs and weather, I guess.
However, we can do what we have not been careful about in the past. We have to get courageous, decisive MTGA type leadership like Florida has in their Ron DeSantis. Bush Republicanism in this state has yielded a lotta purple and blue. We can do this. Let’s roll.

Oh good grief! I was born in California and saw it grow from a beautiful state with incredible agricultural into a haven for druggies, illegal immigrants and professional leeches. The last time I was there in the early 80s I was shocked at the overbuilding and destruction of a once wonderful state. I haven’t been back. What has happened is so sad because the interior and the people who live there are outnumbered by the coastal crowd.

The "here's why" cliche needs to die, die, die, along with weird and shocking. It's incredibly condescending (no surprise from the NY Slimes), and if the article isn't going to tell you why, why was it written in the first place?

Yeah, NYT, it's understandable that people are flocking to Texas -- many are Liberals hoping to outnumber the Conservative vote and swing Texas' bounty of Electoral Votes reliably to Democrat candidates.
#1 is referring to the Huge Flying Cockroaches that are virtually impossible to kill; but also a bazillion Fire Ants, several Scorpions, and a species of brain-eating amoeba that lives in warm-water lakes and ponds. Y'all ought to stay home, if you know what's good for ya.

We have those HUGE roaches here in South Carolina too but we call them palmetto bugs. So you don’t want to move here either. (Not to mention the 12 foot gators, coral snakes, water moccasins, copperheads, rattlers, sharks and spiders the size of baseballs.)

Housing costs, poverty, inequality, climate,... But nothing about high taxes, the complete breakdown of law and order, or worthless schools? This guy and liberals like him look like the cause of the problem.
Stay there in California and stew in you own juices, fella!

Austin is having trillions of new business moving into their area. Hundreds and hundreds of acres being purchased. The productive people are moving to Texas and Florida. The Atlas Shrugged theme is playing out in real life.

Inequality is one of those new, modern made-up problems but it's similar to climate change in that it will never go away. How would you do that, collect everyone's income into a huge pot and divvy it up equally to the masses? That's already done under communism except for bigger pieces of the pie going to the party leaders. They also have the easiest job, making your life miserable.
By all means do not consider moving to Pennsylvania. The horrors here are so bad I could not begin to describe them without breaking out in hives.

The Democrat Party is responsible for ruining California. Given the opportunity, the party will ruin the United States. California away from Los Angeles and the Bay Area is quite conservative. My city voted 60% for Trump, but with plantation Blacks, illegal aliens and wealthy people along the coast together with criminal vote manipulation, the situation seems and is hopeless. Middle level people move to Texas or Idaho complaining about California and then vote Democrat in their new state. When the Soviet Union broke up the Communist Party was outlawed. At some point the Democrat Party will need to be outlawed, more radical leaders imprisoned.

TX will be sorry to allow all those Californians to move there. All they have to do is look at CO and see how much they've ruined that state.

Not everyone from CA is moving to Texas. Nancy just bought a house in FLA. Given all the criticism her party has thrown at DeSantis, kind of surprising. s/o

The only disasters in California are brought about because of their policies that allow the forests to burn every year. Climate has nothing to do with it. The California "paradise" has earthquakes, mud slides, forest fires, torrential rains and droughts. It always has. In between it has really nice weather. I left in the early 70s because I couldn't find a job or housing.
