A hypersonic weapon test carried out by China in July featured a missile fired at five times the speed of sound - a technological feat which no other country has demonstrated, according to US intelligence. The hypersonic glide vehicle - a spacecraft with the ability to carry a nuclear warhead - fired a missile mid-flight over the South China Sea, catching Pentagon scientists unawares.Experts at Darpa - the Pentagon's advanced research agency - are apparently still baffled at how China was able to defy the constraints of physics to fire a weapon from the vehicle travelling at hypersonic speed, the Financial Times reports.

Yeah, but they sure have lots of rainbow flags and accelerated promotions for people who dont know what sex they are. Hypersonic missiles? Pffft. Inclusive is more important than defense.

The Chinese have had fireworks for 4,000 years. Eventually you get better at it. That said, this current Pentagon would be baffled at how the little ship gets into the bottle,

Yes, but our military now has 47 genders, let's see China beat that.

Fire? I doubt it.
Detach a missile or warhead with reentry capabilities? Much simpler.

Any hyperglide vehicle has the potential to create a small space of less turbulant atmosphere directly in its wake. A warhead attached to the craft's butt, so to speak, can tumble free, and use ablative coating to coast into its target like any reentry vehicle.
You warhead isn't carried in the nose like a spear, but in its rear, like a chicken laying an egg.

"China was able to defy the constraints of physics to fire a weapon from the vehicle travelling at hypersonic speed"
I'm curious.... are they baffled that China was able to "fire" the weapon....or is the US still trying to figure out how to fire with accuracy?
I watch SpaceX with amazement. They perform launch after launch with crash after crash until they figure out how to do it right. NASA, on the other hand does one launch at magnitudes higher costs, expecting flawless performance on the first test.

Counter proliferation bait. The CP "community" hasn't stopped the proliferation of anything since the whole idea came into vogue during the Clinton admin. Instead of maintaining a credible deterrence, the Clinton groupies in DoD, State, and the intel agencies decided to conduct foreign policy by the gun control method. Didn't work then and won't work ever.

Here's a physics question: If a nuke is programmed to choose Washington DC as ground zero, what's the difference if it hits the White House at five times the speed of sound (3,800 mph) or if it arrives there in the back of a U-Haul truck (35 mph)? Answer: No difference, Joe and the gang are still all consumed in a 10,000 degree explosion that takes part of Maryland and Virginia with them. FJB (literally)

I'm not worried about China firing nukes at us. Both countries know that the current administration will surrender without a shot being fired. Why waste a Chinese nuke that might be needed against Russia?

Wait! I've got this. This is the plot for a new Star Trek series where the lead, ala Capt. Kirk, will be played by a slight, pale, ADHD teenage girl from somewhere Down Under. How do you like it so far? Especially the part about deploying a weapon from 5x the speed of sound?

Hey PX warrior, General Milley, pick your head up out of the CRT studies book and hear this. If the supersonic missile hits Joe Biden's house at super excessive speed or drops in on a parachute you can bet it's going to be a big blast. How you receive the pill makes no difference you still lose. Tell us about the new genders in the military restrooms and the angry whites you found in the military ranks that sounds interesting. FJB

The Pentagon isn't baffled by the technology, but how the Chinese managed to steal our technology. This was probably one of the top secret projects the U.S. military had, but somehow China was able to steal that tech and run with it without anyone in the Pentagon knowing it was stolen. There are so many Chinese spies imbedded in this country, that the number of them in highly classified positions would probably scare everyone.

If china has this super weapon...they must have stolen the technology from US...so I'm not buying this story...I suspect WE are more advanced than the biden boondoggle administration has told US...china is good at scare tactics...they play emotional games with people and they are good at it...it's another story to discourage Americans into believing WE should just surrender to china....well... I'm not buying the hype....

They could google "ramjet" and find they work up to Mach 6. Since NASA's administrator said that their "foremost" mission is to improve relations with the Muslim world, (this has nothing to do with Islam) - they can't help.

The alleged reason to discount the unidentified aerial phenomena sighted by Navy pilots as being of earthly origin has been that the objects’ movements defied the laws of physics. Surely, investigators reasoned, the Chinese and the Russians could not be that far ahead of us. If so, we are doomed, they said. Well, now what?

At a family gathering, all my old, Southern uncles were exchanging "tall tales" (aka "old man gossip"). One uncle was telling all the unlikely things an acquaintance had done.
Second uncle asked, " How did he do all of that?"
First uncle answered, "Well... he lied."

Has this hypersonic test been confirmed by an objective party?
The Department of Defense is apparently looking for a budget infusion. Everything is a threat, and the usual suspects will support mo' money flowing into the "military-industrial complex". How can we lead the Free World without the hardware and long-tail, little tooth military we have today? Oh, and our military family/social programs need to be expanded, too.

When there are Harvard college professors as well as many others involved in the wholesale criminal enterprise of SELLING U.S. technology to China, they haven’t had to steal it. They can get it for bargain basement prices. The ‘stealing’ claim is lame& weak.

Here we have the Chinese Communists firing off hypersonic missiles designed to blow the USA to smithereens, and all the Democrats can envision is passing a socialist political agenda, and electing Buttigieg as the next US President because he is their featured “Gay” man, along with filling the ranks of the US military with people who hold their primary allegiances to the so-called Rainbow flag.

Beware all DM reports about weapons systems. They are always chock full of errors, misinformation, just stupidities and foolishness.
This is a prime example.
Nobody EVER defies the laws of physics...even a tiny bit. Our existing nuclear missile warheads are hypersonic, always have been.
There are some differences, yes.
The primary reason we aren't farther along is Dems will NOT fund it, and incompetent political Obama generals are worrying about masks, shots and imaginary racial issues, not defense of the country.

China doesn't need to nuke the States. They already have our military vaccinated with a deadly DNA modifier that will induce heart attacks once our troops start to exert themselves in battle. Besides, it's stupid to blow the U.S. up with nukes when they already own most of the country and really just want the people dead. Our CDC, FDA, Biden Administration and their minions are already working on that. In two years, most
people that took Pfizer or Maderna will be dead and China will walk right in without firing a shot.
