I've found myself revisiting Mayberry for a few episodes nearly every day over this past year or so. It's a bit of happy nostalgia, allowing me some mental time away from all the depressing chaos of our new reality. How I'd love to "set" on the front porch after dinner with the Taylors, soothed by a little guitar strumming and the soft sounds of wooden rockers. Thank you, Thelma Lou, for the gentleness of your character and loyalty to your true love. There's a lid for every pot, as they say. RIP

I too have found that a trip back to Mayberry is a great antidote to the anxiety inducing world we live in. Nice people, commonsense, honor, humor, and human interaction. I can't imagine the residents obsessed with their phones and ordering delivery from the diner. Thelma Lou and Barney seemed content to "date" forever and it all seemed just fine. Betty Lynn, who had a long career in movies and radio will always be Thelma Lou to most people. The interesting this about that is that out of the 249 episodes and 8 seasons, Thelma Lou only appeared in 28 episodes. I recommend watching one episode before and one after watching Tucker Carlson.

I guess Opie (Ron Howard) is pretty much the only cast member left. RIP, Thelma Lou. She always seemed like a nice person. Like Gunsmoke. We love watching that and find that there are almost none of the actors still alive, only some of the kid actors and a few adults who were younger and only appeared in the 70s are still alive in their 80s or 90s. TV shows don't much interest me any more, most are garbage. One long time favorite has pretty much ended my interest last night after many, many seasons. Jethro (Mark Harmon) left the series on NCIS, leaving literally only ONE character from the original show left. I won't be bothering much to see it in the future. Down to only one TV show that I actually want to see, Blue Bloods, with most of the original cast in place still.

Read somewhere were Lynn was paid 500 bucks per episode, never earning more from producer Sheldon Leonard. When she complained, Leonard threatened to have Thelma Lou "cancelled", saying there were plenty of potential girlfriends in Mayberry for Barney.

One of my favorite characters ever in television, and yes, the inspiration for my screen name. The episode where she attempts to get back at Barney for his taking her for granted by going out with Gomer is classic hilarity. RIP, dear lady.

Dan Bongino walks the walk, in addition to talking the talk. He may be professionally classified as a talker now that he has a podcast, a three-hour syndicated talk show, a weekly Fox News Channel show, and a simulcast presence on Fox Nation, but the former NYPD cop and Secret Service agent is a man of action. I tip my hat to Dan for standing on principle – even at potentially great financial cost – in dealing with bullying by Antifa and by the vaccine mandate fanatics.

Mask and vaccine mandates are less politically damaging than they should be. Recent polls show that around 64% of Americans support mask mandates, although less than half view masks as effective. (snip) The truth is evident and pervasive. They said lockdowns would end COVID. They said distancing would end COVID. They said masks would end COVID. They said vaccines would end COVID. We lost our jobs, missed our families, miseducated our children, suffocated and killed ourselves, and are over 90% vaccinated or immune and COVID is still here.

Andrew Cuomo announced yesterday that he’s resigning as governor of New York because he loves the state and it’s clear that he’s in the way. Since I think very little of the man, both as a person and a politician, the fact that he’s leaving seems like good news. However, it’s very likely that, by pulling out now, he’s sparing himself and his minions a criminal investigation into the 15,000 old people who died last year when he insistently warehoused COVID patients into retirement communities.

Another chapter is being written in the book known as “I don’t recognize my country anymore.” The latest entry is the leftist jihad waged against Dr. Joseph Mercola for daring to contradict the left’s agreed-upon narrative about preventing and treating COVID. Up until COVID hit, Dr. Joseph Mercola was a well-respected osteopathic physician and best-selling author whose specialty was natural health – that is, maintaining good health through smart nutrition and healthy living. Since the left was long about natural health, he was even featured in such leftist media outlets as Time, Forbes, and CNN.

One of the stranger things to happen in what is a very strange age is that the great state of Minnesota has become the focus of race relations in America. Most people think of the state as being one of the whitest in the country, so it is odd that it would be a microcosm for what is going on in the country as a whole. We are regularly told by our betters that new America is diverse and vibrant, not bland and white. (snip) This is the reality of Jim Snow America.
