Despite President Joe Biden's goal to move cargo around the clock in Los Angeles ports, the gates remained shut on Sunday with a smattering of open traffic on Saturday. The nationwide port schedule app Pier Trucker showed terminals that looked like ghost towns Sunday with barren traffic lanes as additional cargo ships continue to pile up along the coastlines of Los Angeles and Orange counties. On Friday, 88 ships were waiting to dock at either Long Beach or Los Angeles harbors — 10 additional ships from the last count on Oct. 13, according to the Marine Exchange of Southern California.

Truckers hours have been curtailed as well by the government commissars. You can unload ships 48 hours a day but if you can't find truckers to take the containers from the docks to the terminals, rail yards, and distribution centers, well, all you're gonna have is a lot of containers stacked to the heavens.

The problem isn't at the ports. Its at the trucks, and the restrictions our stupid government puts on them.

Everything that is happening is exactly as the Demon-Rat overlords have it planned.
Their primary goal is to destroy the US economy. That will force more and more people onto the welfare plantation as jobs and businesses die. As people go on the welfare plantation, they seldom ever get off of it -- that is just economic reality. And as they get used to the government giving them "free stuff" without having to do any work for it, they are obviously going to keep voting for the Demon-Rats who give them that "free stuff".
This has nothing to do with saving our economy. It has everything to do with Demon-Rats getting and keeping absolute power. And, for that, the ends truly do justify the means to the Demon-Rats!!!!!

I recently read that CA does not allow trucks older than 3 years to be used in this role. Someone has to work very hard to screw things up this badly.

It's a combination of things, which is why it's not so simple to revolve.
Longshoreman will work more shifts, but you can't build a "gang' to work a shift nless you have the requisite number of skilled labor for that gang first. Some carriers need 8 gangs on a given vessel.
The longshoreman contract is due for renegotiation in July 2022.
The largest importers (aka big box stores) generally have large amount of "free time" at both on-dock and off-dock, which ties-up equipment.
The port operators have too many empty containers idle in their yards occupying space that could be used for off-loading the vessels
The truckers are required to make appointments for both picking up an import container, and for returning an empty container. Many terminals don't have space for the empty container return which then occupies the much needed chassis to pick up an import container to take to the warehouses.
Trucking companies, port personnel and warehouse locations get "hit" by COVID, which curtails the number of workers available for a period of time, thus, putting further strain on the system.
And, this is just a small snapshot of some of the issues, folks.

So civilizations have been loading and unloading ships for over a thousand years. They have also figured out how to move the goods throughout their countries for sale. What's wrong with this administration and California?

They can unload and keep overstuffing overstuffed warehouses. It won't matter if those warehouses aren't being emptied. It takes trucks for that. And California laws favorable to environmental causes and unions (the teamsters in this case) are screwing up the trucking industry in the state.

Banning trucks that don't meet California pollution standards also doesn't get anything from point A to point B.

Aren't the terminals owned/operated by chinese companies? As well as most of the ships..and the terminals at Panama? and the New canal locks? All of this stuff arriving from China is filling orders from "Stimulus" checks...How much of that $5Trillion in emergency/stimulus spending went to China? Container shipping costs went from around $1,400-2,000 up to $14,000-$20,000. Time to buyLocal, Buy 2nd hand...or not buy at all.

There are reports that California environmental truck regulations have resulted in inadequate numbers of trucks to haul the freight coming into the port.

California democrats passing AB5 has caused the chaos in the ports. Only Union truckers can move cargo, used to be independent truckers were allowed. Restrictions on trucks powered by diesel engines older than 2007 aren't allowed. Look up California Air Resources Board diesel rules.

Yes, the California air board's regs have limited trucks.
But also, California made independent contractors illegal in the state. That apparently means no 'owner-operator' semis.
California is wrecking this whole thing.
So, buy AMERICAN GOODS.

There are NO TRUCKS to put the goods on...Californication's Environmental overreach made it so a high majority of trucks couldn't drive in the Golden Shower State.

Another example how the administration has no clue how to make things happen. The longshoremen are not going to work 24/7 just because of Biden's harangue.
