The U.S. government is using 'keyword warrants' to uncover the identity of anyone who searches Google and other search engines for certain search terms that may be related to a crime, according to a new report. The controversial practice, which is already drawing civil liberties concerns about sweeping government overreach, was revealed on Tuesday in 'accidentally unsealed' court documents obtained by Forbes. Keyword warrants—which have been secretly employed for at least several years—are drawing backlash as many argue they violate an individual's constitutional protections against unreasonable search and seizure. 'Trawling through Google's search history database enables police to identify people merely based on what they might have been thinking

Too much information available out there. We would be better off having to look things up in an encyclopedia. Like the good old days. Why do they care about other people’s life and thoughts?

Reminds me of "Minority Report." You're guilty before you commit the crime.

Would be great if we could get the list of the keywords they target, then spend a few days (all Lucianne people) doing google searches with those keywords.....

Google IS the US Government. Wake the F up people. They put it right in your face by calling the company that 'owns' Google Alphabet. As in 'Alphabet Agency'.
Google is a wholly own subsidiary of the NSA. Every search, every use of a google app, every time you go to a website using a google phone, you have been tracked and cataloged. Every single time.

I just typed into Google search: displeased with our current administration
There's a chance that I'll be labeled as a "domestic terrorist".
The Swamp Gestapos don't like searchable warrants. What's that tire screeching I hear down the street?

I don't know if it is clever misdirection to deflect criticism from Biden but if the above quote is accurate, this started under the Trump administration.

The Republic of Texas approaches.
Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, S Dakota, N Dakota, Montana, Alberta (Canada), Saskatchewan (Canada), Manitoba (Canada), and a few states along the sides. Let's go EAST. Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida.
We have every shipping port in The Gulf of Mexico and half the Atlantic and more oil than the Saudis ever dreamed of.
California and New York can print their own money. If they want to trade they can use Panama. We WILL protect our borders ,north, south, east, and west.
If you're coming to visit Texas bring your US passport with the pre-approved visitor's visa.

They have a video of the Austin bomber buying his supplies at Home Depot. Everything is under surveillance, including your bank account, credit cards, license plate tracking, gps positioning. They know where you are sitting, what you are doing, what you are saying, and thinking. They know who you voted for, where you work or don't, the names of all the relations, and all the neighbors. And they read your emails, and regular mail at the post office, when they get you in their focus. They know if you are not vaccinated, and have plans to torment you, and get you fired.

I'm naturally curious, so I do web searches frequently on items of interest. I like to know how things are built, how they operate etc for no other reason than to satisfy my curiosity. From the list that I saw, I'm sure that I've popped in more than one search.

I immediately felt that such a 'keyword' warrant must be unconstitutional re.4th Amendment. And would a judge issue such a warrant? It sounds too vague.
Now, having reread that Amendment, I see how it might not prevent such searches. Text follows:
"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

The Google and Facebook arms of the Stasi are not only effective, but in a classically American way, they're profitable, too, and people even "share" their information voluntarily, safe in the belief that they are not considered an enemy of the state for whatever reasons the state may have at the moment.
