Apple is working on new technology that could be used to help diagnose mental health conditions such as depression and cognitive decline, insiders claim. Working with the University of California in Los Angeles and biotech firm Biogen, Apple is hoping to get more out of the health-related sensors in its devices. The firm already has a wide health-related technology offerings, including heart, sleep and activity monitoring through the Apple Watch and iPhone. Insiders, speaking to the Wall Street Journal, say researchers will use data from iPhone sensors to look for digital signals linked to certain mental health conditions, including depression and anxiety,
I generally leave mine on the desk and rarely pick it up. What kind of psychobabble nonsense do you make of that?

Don't have a smart phone. Don't want a smart phone. This is just one reason why. It's bad enough the government wants to crawl up my nether region so they can control me. So now if I watch to many "funny cat videos" I might be labeled depressed and living vicariously through a little ball of fur acting silly. Obviously in need of government intervention and guidance. No thank you. And unless you are physically challenged you wouldn't catch me putting Alexa anywhere in my home.

A smart phone to detect cognitive decline. Can Joe Biden even use a smart phone?

It will probably need to have your voting record and campaign donation history to determine “if your mind’s not right.” And a copy of your medical passport.
I already have a mood ring so I don’t need this.

I had been getting more amenable to the idea of putting iPhone on my list of choices next time I get a phone, but see this as sufficient reason to keep them out of that list.

Smart phone says you’re depressed? Feds show up at your door for your guns, for your own safety.

Thankfully, I have never had any Apple products, and never will. The few times I have used Apple products owned by others, I was quickly very angry at the device's opaque operation. My wife, also a computer user at the highest lever (system manager as an adjunct to her actual engineering duties) also has had the same experience. For those who understand computers, Apples are .....irritating and frustrating.
I really do get the "...for the rest of us" deal for folks who don't like or know computers, but it works both ways.

How, because I don't pay enough attention to it. I use mine for a timer more than for anything else. I do enjoy texting with my sisters.

What if I only use mine to make and receive calls? Am I depressed if I don’t use all of the gizmos? What will the new algorithms say about people who are addicted to their phones 16 hours a day? (Assuming that they sleep 8 hours at night)

Just having an Apple iPhone on your person is putting you on the road to being a nut case. You don't have to turn it on. You are restricted to Apple software and little aps that can't be removed.

iPhone looks at someone's posting and concludes the fewer "likes" the owner receives, the more depressed he will be.
