Secretary of Defense: ‘I Don’t Have

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said that the U.S. will continue to evacuate all the Americans “they can” from Afghanistan, although the U.S. is currently unable to “go out and collect large numbers of people” from outside the Kabul airport. “It’s obvious we’re not close to where we want to be,” Austin said at a press conference at the Pentagon. “We’re gonna get everyone that we can possibly evacuate, evacuated and I’ll do that as long as we possibly can, until the clock runs out, or we run out of capability.” Austin admitted that U.S. capabilities to venture outside the airport are already limited, however. “I don’t have the capability

FTA: "Austin admitted that U.S. capabilities to venture outside the airport are already limited, however. “I don’t have the capability to go out and extend operations currently into Kabul,” explained the defense secretary." The greatest and by far the most expensive military in the history of the world has very impressive capabilities, especially after controlling an entire country for 20 years and then pouring a fortune into making its military self-sufficient. "USA, USA!," we chant with pride. But now with the Transgender Pride flags remove from our embassies, we are powerless in the face of a ragtag band of tribesmen armed with weapons we provided them.

Meanwhile you have tens of thousands of people on the roads or outside the perimeter of the Kabul airport. Who is providing basic human services, including water, food, sanitation? The military is confined to the airport. What an absolute nightmare!

A column of diesel-powdered armored cars and tanks would be quite helpful about now. You could just roll over the Taliban and their battered trucks, and collect some of the stranded evacuees. But that would upset the global warming crowd.

Over at Ace of Spades HQ, there is a story about how the UK commander is angry with the commander of the US forces regarding our inability to rescue our own citizens (Austin doesn't want to break the "deal" with the Taliban) while the Brits are running convoys solo to get their people (and I suspect some of ours) out of Kabul to the airport. Meanwhile, our woke UN Ambassador has issued a VERY strongly worded statement to the Taliban that they should be respectful of women's rights if they want to be a member of the international community (I don't think they care). Austin and Milley should be relieved of duty immediately. This is a s*** show of the first magnitude... greyseal

If clowns Austin and Milley would have evacuated the citizens, embassy, allies who assisted us, and warned our allies before our military retreated in disgrace without warning in the middle of the night this would not be an issue. An old science always told me: PRIOR PLANNING PREVENTS POOR PERFORMANCE. Austin and Milley obviously gave no thought to their cowardly retreat of the US military without creating the chaos we are seeing. This was a totally avoidable situation. Nobody denies that the Taliban would have eventually come back in. But the poor planning and excuses for their failures are making Austin and Milley look totally incompetent.

It’s pretty evident what is happening. The Taliban is happy to allow the Americans and other foreign nationals to leave Afghanistan, but is not going to allow any Afghans to leave. If the Taliban does allow some Afghans to leave it will not be before huge bribes are paid to them by Biden. When the Americans have been evacuated, the Taliban are going to tell the US military to leave Kabul Airport and get out of Afghanistan. If the Taliban start firing artillery or rockets into the airport no aircraft will be able to land or take off and aircraft on the ground there would be sitting ducks for artillery shells to destroy them. If there are about 6,000 US troops and about 1,000 UK troops at the airport they are going to need a lot of logistic support before long, and that’s where the rub will come into play.

The emergence of SARS-CoV-2 and the resulting illness, COVID-19, has caused mass hysteria on a global scale. Perhaps no response is as shocking as what we see in Australia. The country is included in the group of western democracies globally and among the Five Eyes intelligence community members. Yet, the nation’s response to the pandemic can only be described as authoritarian. A COVID-19 Delta outbreak emerged in Australia in June. The country adopted a “Covid-Zero” strategy early in the pandemic. The government has repeatedly imposed draconian measures, rigorous testing, and closed international borders to eradicate the virus.

A week ago tomorrow, Kabul fell and the Taliban gained effective control of Afghanistan. Joe Biden and his national security team have taken that week to offer very little in the way of facts, and evidently, even less in the way of security for Americans or U.S. allies stranded there. A British reporter on the ground in Kabul reports that the things he and “hardened combat soldiers” are seeing are the worst things any of them have ever seen. He also says it’s all getting worse. As if the chaos in Afghanistan isn’t bad enough, the Biden administration is evidently in a state of chaos itself.

But there was one exchange that really had people asking questions. NPR reporter Scott Detrow asked Biden if he was really saying that there were no circumstances where Americans weren’t able to get to the Kabul airport

Jim Geraghty’s written two posts today making the case that something is up. I’m not sold on his first post. His second is more persuasive. The first post argues that Biden’s chat with George Stephanopoulos was filled with enough contradictions and awkward stammering that, paired with his low visibility lately, we might reasonably conclude that his health has become an issue. Whether you agree comes down to a gut check on how you felt about the interview. I didn’t see it as out of the ordinary for Biden. His answers were emphatically not good but he didn’t seem checked out to me. If anything, he was combative

Incredibly cynical and depressing. And quite possibly correct. “The public opinion is pretty damn clear that Americans wanted out of the ongoing war and don’t want to get back in. It’s true today and it’s going to be true in six months,” said one Biden ally. “It isn’t about not caring or being empathetic about what’s going on over there, but worrying about what’s happening in America.”… White House officials believe Americans’ horror over graphic images of the chaos in Kabul and pleas from Afghans who fear they will be killed

This past week, Lt. The Taliban has seized US weapons left in Afghanistan worth billions — possibly including 600,000 assault rifles, some 2,000 armored vehicles, and 40 aircraft, including Black Hawks, according to reports. The US gave the Afghan military an estimated $28 billion in weaponry between 2002 and 2017 — including seven brand new helicopters delivered to Kabul just a month ago.

During the presidential campaign, the Biden administration introduced a new word into the lexicon: a “lid.” His campaign has called a lid countless times without explanation, meaning it was cutting off all media appearances for that day. Joe Biden went on vacation to Camp David just before Afghanistan fell to the Taliban and gave no public remarks on the matter until more than 24 hours after the fall of Kabul. That was a speech Biden delivered from the White House Monday, after which he took no questions from the media. He went silent again, then delivered another speech on Wednesday, this time on COVID. He took no media questions

I doubt the left will stop obsessing over January 6th even as Afghanistan burns. Sources told Reuters the FBI has not found much evidence that proves anyone coordinated the Capitol Hill riot: Though federal officials have arrested more than 570 alleged participants, the FBI at this point believes the violence was not centrally coordinated by far-right groups or prominent supporters of then-President Donald Trump, according to the sources, who have been either directly involved in or briefed regularly on the wide-ranging investigations.

As we approach the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks it is interesting to look back and see how American culture has changed in that two-decade time span. Back then mainstream culture (sorta) rallied around God and country against our enemy, the Taliban and Al Qaeda. Today the culture sees those same people that believe in God and country as bad or worse than the Taliban.

Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett refused Friday to block the construction of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago as demanded by an environmental group. The groundbreaking for former President Barack Obama‘s namesake library and presidential archives center began earlier this week, but Protect Our Parks, an environmental advocacy group, asked the high court to stop the construction. The group lost multiple requests in lower courts to halt the construction of the Obama center because it is located in a public park, Jackson Park on Chicago‘s South Side.(Snip)The activists argued that 800 trees would be destroyed around the park and affect birds.
