Jim Geraghty’s written two posts today making the case that something is up. I’m not sold on his first post. His second is more persuasive. The first post argues that Biden’s chat with George Stephanopoulos was filled with enough contradictions and awkward stammering that, paired with his low visibility lately, we might reasonably conclude that his health has become an issue. Whether you agree comes down to a gut check on how you felt about the interview. I didn’t see it as out of the ordinary for Biden. His answers were emphatically not good but he didn’t seem checked out to me. If anything, he was combative

The majority of Americans no longer believe President Joe Biden is competent in his role as the Commander-in-Chief, according to a CBS News poll.
Fifty-one percent of the respondents said Biden is not competent in his position as president. This is compared to only 49 percent who said he is.
Additionally, the poll found that 52 percent of the respondents did not feel the president has been focused.
The poll was taken during and after the fall of the now-Taliban-controlled Kabul, Afghanistan, when Biden botched the U.S. troops’ withdrawal from the country. With that, 53 percent of the respondents said they disagree with the way Biden withdrew the troops.
Afghanistan is on the cusp of morphing from a mere national humiliation that will constrain US foreign policy for the next generation into a military catastrophe that could compare to the fate of the British Army during its 1842 retreat from Afghanistan if we continue on our current course.

The Biden administration was having an extremely rough time spinning their Afghanistan failure as they made the rounds on the Sunday shows. Secretary of State Antony Blinken made things exponentially worse on CBS’s Face the Nation after fill-in moderator Major Garrett got him to admit the administration was asking the Taliban for “permission” to get Americans out of the country.
Blinken’s fumble began when Garrett asking him about President Biden’s comments regarding “an agreement with the Taliban,” because “that implies we're negotiating with them.” “Does that not confer upon them already legitimacy,” Garrett fretted.
The Biden administration is planning a dramatic ramp-up of its airlift from Kabul by making preparations to compel major U.S. airlines to help with the transportation of tens of thousands of evacuees from Afghanistan, while expanding the number of U.S. military bases that could house Afghans.

A week ago tomorrow, Kabul fell and the Taliban gained effective control of Afghanistan.
Joe Biden and his national security team have taken that week to offer very little in the way of facts, and evidently, even less in the way of security for Americans or U.S. allies stranded there. A British reporter on the ground in Kabul reports that the things he and “hardened combat soldiers” are seeing are the worst things any of them have ever seen. He also says it’s all getting worse. As if the chaos in Afghanistan isn’t bad enough, the Biden administration is evidently in a state of chaos itself.

The French government’s readout of the conversation was released on Friday, a day after the call took place, and indicates that Macron emphasised ensuring the safe evacuation of Afghan citizens who assisted American and European troops over the past 20 years at great risk to themselves and their families. President Joe Biden’s job approval is underwater in most states, according to the CIVIQS rolling job approval average.
Thirty-seven states show the president with a 50 percent or higher disapproval rate. This is compared to only 12 states that show the president with a higher approval rating. Meanwhile, only one state, Colorado, polled at an even tie with 46 percent.
The seven-month rolling average of the president’s job approval is now at 50 percent disapproval compared to only 43 percent approval, with seven people expressing no opinion.

Joe Biden has badly, visibly bungled America’s withdrawal from Afghanistan. He has compounded the problem with his sluggish and dishonest public statements. This has gone so badly that even people and institutions that are normally sympathetic to Biden and his party have noticed. American allies have been appalled, and vocal about it. What is slowly dawning on people is that Biden’s critics were right about him all along.
