The governor of Texas has issued an urgent appeal for medical staff to come and assist with surging COVID cases—even as he resists calls to reinstate a mask mandate. Greg Abbott, the Republican leader of the state, made his cry for help as the rolling two-week daily average of new COVID-19 cases in his state has increased by 165 per cent to 8,533, according to Johns Hopkins University research data.(Snip)Abbott later added: 'The State of Texas is taking action to combat the recent rise in COVID-19 cases and ensure that our hospitals and communities have the resources and support they need to mitigate

Yes, yes put on a face diaper! Its the only thing that will save mankind. Oh, the fact that the current face diapers wouldn't meet any OHSA standard for preventing adverse health consequences in mining, painting, insecticides, fire or nuclear contamination isn't a big deal. Even though a face diaper can't help prevent any occupational hazard, it can miraculouly stop a particle thousands of times smaller? Really? Maybe all the lockdowns and not letting the herd, feel, herd to develop immunity has caused this surge.

So if the overflow is occurring in Austin, Texas is having the same issue as Florida that the surges in covid hospitalizations is happening in heavily democrat controlled and highly vaccinated areas.

Austin is full of rabid liberals who probably think they are above having to wear masks like the common folk.

Your job is to protect the people of Texas. Screw Xiden and this invasion. You must do what you have to do. Employ the NG, and start dealing with this invasion. You wanted the job, now do it.

Wearing a mask is as clinically useful as wearing a too hat and tails. But not nearly as impressive.

Our T shirt in Houston says "Keep Austin 170 miles from here".
Travis county. The one place a couple of million Californians are moving to. Put em all in the same county that keeps electing Democrats since Hell froze over. But they only get a few Democrats. The rest of the state is rock solid RED.

I will have to see photos of the hospital ICU's that are time dated before I believe a word of this. They said this before and the photos of the ICU's proved otherwise.

From a totally scientific point of view, wearing a mask to stop the Covid virus is about the equivalent to putting up a chain link fence to keep mosquitos out of your yard. The holes in even the best of mask are still at least 4-5 times larger than the virus. And the holes in the phony cloth masks that most people wear are more like 100+ times bigger than the virus.
Masks are nothing more than Kabuki theater to make people believe they are doing "something", when all they are doing is giving up their rights slowly day by day!!!

A second point ---- what's wrong with Austin hospital systems that they cannot convert additional medical/surgical beds to ICU? Houston medical center has done it, why can't they?

In a state of 25 million, 8500 cases doesn't sound like justification for pushing the panic button.

#10, I live in Austin. Pretty much everything in Austin (including, sadly, most churches) are run by lie-beral bureaucrats. That is everything you need to know!!!
The most inefficient, wasteful, incompetent thing in the world is a lie-beral bureaucrat!!!! So, of course, the lie-beral bureaucrats that run our hospitals are totally incompetent and incapable of handling the stress of any even remotely emergency-type of situation.
If a good conservatives were running the hospitals, they would have calmly done what was needed to address the immediately issues. But lie-berals are so overwhelmed by trying to meet all of their lie-beral beliefs (are we setting up enough extra beds in minority areas so that we aren't white supremists, and are we meeting the needs of the 0.01% if the population that is LGBTXYZ that has Covid, etc) that they freeze in the face of anything even remotely out of the ordinary.

Masks have nothing to do with it. It is ADE.....the failed "vaccine" is making people sicker than if they hadn't gotten it.

GO AFTER Texas Speaker of the House DADE PHELAN. He's the "Republican" who assisted the cowardly Democrats and helped them run away. Ask Abbott why he allowed such a man to be put in that position?

Abbott does need to beg anyone to come and help. All he needs to do is order all hospitals and doctors to use hydroxychloroquine and zinc or use ivermectin to stop the cytokine storm in those new cases.

It would be interesting to know exactly WHO is populating those hospital beds. Is it unvaccinated Texans or is it uninvited illegal migrants who snuck into the country infected with Covid then were allowed to migrate wherever they wanted to go in the state or country. A map overlay of the severe Covid areas and where the illegals went/are would be interesting to see before casting blame on the Governor for the spread of Covid. Maybe people should be looking to the Federal Governments poor border management policies for the Covid issues in Texas and Florida.

Time to charge biden with dereliction of duty. With the southern wide open, he's not protecting Americans. That is, if covid is as bad as they say. They're speaking out both sides of their mouths on this one. obama has a huge party, no masks, with border is wide open with no testing etc, yet they want us to mask up etc. Which is it? You can't have it both ways. People are getting really tired of this all. Time to fire them all.

I never hear anyone from the hospitals saying anything. It is always the politicians telling us about the hospitals. Any crowding of hospitals is because of government policies forcing them to treat those that don't pay, while medical clinics are everywhere, because they only take those that pay. These government policies have destroyed and closed the community hospitals, and nothing is remaining but in the cities. As for city hospitals, they are not crowded either, as the doctors are afraid of their patients, and patients are postponing everything due to all the fear mongering.

Neither masks nor the vaccine prevent transmission; covid is here to stay. If you can't prevent new cases, and you worry that your current ICU resources will be overwhelmed, you have to add to your current resources. The only concrete thing any government could have done to reduce the scope of the problem was to fund the building and staffing of more emergency and ICU rooms.
How many new rooms have they set up on a permanent basis since this started?

Mask wearing won't do anything to combat Covid. Stopping the hundreds of thousands of illegals crossing the border who have Covid will.

The article doesn't mention how many cases can be attributed to the Covid infected illegals surging across the border into Texas. Remember if you can smell flatulence through a mask, it isn't going to prevent penetration by the Covid 19 virus. A few things that I've learned from this pandemic is never trust a politician or the media to tell you the truth!

Why require a mask mandate, when Joe is allowing entry of illegals with covid-19 and who knows what other contagious diseases they may bring with them.

This dud was hailed when on June 1 he pretended that he was going to defy Biden and apprehend illegal aliens. Evidently he did nothing as Biden keeps flooding Texas with infected illegals, and now he's urging everyone to get vaccinated to protect us from the illegal aliens who waltz across Texas, and spread throughout the former USA.
