California’s ‘Dixie Fire’ is now the second largest in the state’s history. The fire began on July 14 just northeast of Chico, California and grew to more than 460,000 acres.Four firefighters have been injured, 400 buildings have been charred and more than 30,000 people have been evacuated from their homes. So far no fatalities have been reported although 4 people are unaccounted for.Firefighters said hot and windy conditions have made it harder to get the blaze under control.

If you don't manage old growth ya get fires, if the people of California don't care why should I? Just more federal dollars up in smoke every year..

It is not Global Warming. California forests burn periodically. The fault lies with the Sierra Club that prohibits logging and new roads. We are in a drought caused by the normal El Niño-La Niña Pacific Ocean cycle. Enviros have forbidden new dams and reservoirs for 30-40 years in California. Vote for Larry Elder.

When I was young and my family took vacations - mostly to NM, CO, MT, CA and the states in between from the mid-west, there were always firebreaks. You could see where part way up the mountain, the trees had been cleared in a line so if a fire broke out, it was easier to contain. Nope not any more. Also they stopped logging and clearing out the undergrowth all in the name of "saving" the trees. How is that working out for ya???

The problem is the state was overrun and taken over by a bunch of lefty East Coast whackos who started coming here in the 50s, but mainly during the 60s and 70s. They brought the beatniks, folkies, hippies, yuppies and all the other nutty ideological silliness as well as the carpetbagger politicians looking for ways to fill their pockets. Of course, that was followed by tons of illegals. All the true native Californians have been left without representation now watching their once golden state fall apart and be destroyed by greed and megalomaniacs. The lefties have been responsible for fires when they stopped allowing good forestry management. Now everything is literally going up in smoke.

I am 900 miles as the proverbial crow flies southeast of Chico, CA, and today because of all the smoke in the air visibility is a couple of miles. Normal is seventy miles. My SIL, who has respiratory issues, can't go outside for fear of triggering an episode. Hell you can even smell the damned wood smoke. Is there somebody we can sue for all the hardship that has been visited upon us?
The seminal event that triggered the enviro-whacko movement/takeover in California was the 1969 Santa Barbara Oil Spill. Everything has gone downhill from there.

Just keep letting that dead plant growth pile up sets the stage for really really hot burning fires. But the Environmentalists will continue to fight the removal of any dead twig. Nature has a way of rewarding stupid forest management.

We can thank the environmentalists for our massive forest fires every summer. Besides all the smoke that spreads all over the Western states, endangering our health and our lungs, the fire retardants that are dropped everywhere to put out the fires produce dioxins, which get in to the watersheds. According to Wikipedia "Fire retardants used in firefighting can be toxic to fish and wildlife as well as firefighters[22] by releasing dioxins and furans when halogenated fire retardants are burned during fires," So, rather than employing loggers and clearing the forests, we instead get toxic smoke, poisonous watersheds, burned down towns and evacuations. Most of the environmentalists responsible for all this damage and destruction live in the cities and do not have to suffer the consequences.

The forests are supposed to burn every 20 years or so to clean out the under growth and open up the forests. That was the way for millions of years, these fires were mostly low level grass fires and rarely got into the crowns of the trees. Now after 100 years of fire fighting and 30 years of no logging or management the forest floors are covered with undergrowth and other fuel sources so that all the fires reach the crowns.

Thankfully no humans have died from this fire but think of the deaths of the various wild animals, pets, horses, etc that could not escape the flames. So much for the enviro whackos caring about the planet and its animals.

Again, an example of voting with your emotions rather than with your reason.
Personally, I think all those people who moved to CA in 1960s and 1970s got their life philosophy from the lyrics of Rock and Roll songs.

I believe that for most of the eco-weenies, it's not about the environment.
They don't know, and don't care about the environment.
It's about political POWER. Period.
