Soon, no one in California will
be able to bring home the bacon

In just five months, California may well be the first state in America that effectively bans any pork products. This is because, back in 2018, voters approved an animal welfare proposition setting out space requirements standards for those who breed pigs, egg-laying chickens, and veal calves. While chicken farmers and veal producers across America have mostly met those standards, it seems the hog farmers have had a harder time. This is an interesting story because it touches upon the laws of unintended consequences and the effect a state like California has on the rest of America.

"...California’s going about it the wrong way. This change should be organic, coming from the people and driving the marketplace, rather than a single state’s mandate that destroys businesses, wipes out a major part of people’s diets, and negatively affects the whole of the United States." I know I studied the Constitution way back in the last century, but isn't this type of nonsense the reason for the interstate commerce clause? I know that commies have stretched the meaning of that clause all out of proportion to allow federal over reach, but c'mon, man! It should at least be used for its original purpose! As to this stupid proposition, I can barely remember it. TK and I just vote "No" on all props as a matter of general policy. The California commies have taken over the proposition option, originally designed as a tool of the people against the legislature, to push policies that can't even get approved by the Dim controlled Assembly and Senate! There is little advertising for propositions, there's always a long list on every ballot, unless its a big one like Prop. 8 imposing homosexual marriage. No one ever reads the thick proposition voter guide and most vote only on the title and summary paragraph that appears on the ballot. "Humane Treatment of Animals!" - who can be against that! "Yes!" And, so the commie agenda is spread across the nation. My sincerest apologies. I do what I can.

There will be bacon but it will be expensive. That will lead to massive smuggling of pork products from Mexico and other States.

FTA - "It turns out that California “consumes roughly 15% of all pork produced in the country.” If pork producers are suddenly deprived of their California customers, they’ll have to raise prices elsewhere to offset that loss" What happened to the laws of supply and demand? Loss of California as a pork consumer results in excess supply and lower costs for the rest of us.

This sentence jumped out: “ The National Pork Producers Council has asked the U.S. Department of Agriculture for federal aid to help pay for retrofitting hog facilities around the nation to fill the gap.” Is there NO ONE that doesn’t ask for “federal aid”? FTA: "Hog farmers said they haven’t complied because of the cost and because California hasn’t yet issued formal regulations on how the new standards will be administered and enforced." More of Pelosi's we've got to pass the bill to find out what's in the bill nonsense. I'll happily eat 15% more bacon if we can just ignore CA. So tired of California regulations trying to lead the rest of the nation around by the nose. "May cause cancer in California". I'm not in CA so I'm good. Pass the sausage, please.

So, now the bacon smugglers will be setting up their routes. I envision a monthly "bacon run" to Arizona, Nevada or Oregon by the real bacon lovers. Long haul truckers will bring back a cooler full for friends. Will they re-open the California border stations of the 50s and 60s where they confiscated fruit, now confiscating bacon?

They did this because they don't like mother hogs in farrowing crates. Just before the hogs birth they are put in a crate that only allows them to stand up and lay down. They stay there until the baby's 28 th day.....what they are for is to keep the mothers who weigh 300 lbs from laying on their five or.ten lb babies. They are standing up for the mothers. Who stands up for the babies who are risking their lives?.....we had a pet.sow who had had eight piglets and promptly laid on five of them. Again, don't the babies have a champion?

As the Biden administration continues to peel away the accomplishments of his predecessor, what I hear most from family, friends, and social media posters is a fear that Democrats have become power-mad with their recent ascendancy to a majority position in the House and Senate. They wonder if the current crop of radical officials is hell-bent on weakening, and ultimately destroying, the country that gave them those positions. Beginning with reversing President Trump's southern border policies, which has led to an invasion of illegal aliens unprecedented in our history, to the shutdown of the Keystone pipeline

Given Santayana's warning to those who forget the past, there yet remains the problem of what to remember. Events during the summer of 1932 have frequently been remembered to promote some political cause. What follows is an outline of the incontrovertible facts that create their own perspective. (snip) In May of 1932, about 300 veterans, led by Walter W. Waters, entered the yard of the Union Pacific Railroad in Portland, Oregon; refused to leave until they were allowed to ride in empty boxcars; and started on their way to Washington, D.C. to "lobby" for the immediate payment of their "bonuses."

Barack Obama's sixtieth birthday bash this coming weekend threatens to violate just about every progressive virtue the Obamas and their woke pals have ever signaled. Officially, Obama's birthday falls on August 4. As I will explain, that may not be the real date, but the "optics" problem facing Barry and his bourgeois buddies is a more pressing one. As planned, some 475 invited guests and at least 200 worker bees will swarm the Obamas' waterfront estate on Martha's Vineyard, a tony little island off the coast of Massachusetts.

We are a year and half into the world’s nightmare of COVID-19, also known as the Chinese coronavirus, based on where this demon virus originated and spread from, either intentionally or inadvertently. (snip) Do the vaccines work or not? Depending on the day and pronouncement, it is hard to know. First, the COVID “vaccines” are not true vaccines based on the definitions of vaccine. Rather than the “vaccine” containing attenuated virus, it is a strand of messenger RNA, based on genetic code provided by China and serving as the basis for these novel “vaccines” which cause the body to create spike protein which in turn supposedly generates an immune response

San Francisco's broad-daylight retail heists have shocked the nation in their brazenness. They've triggered the closings of stores, such as Walgreens, and the shortening of hours from retail giants such as Target. Forty-four percent of city is planning to move out, with 80% citing out-of-control crime. But the shoplifters have got a defender, too -- in San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin. So do the drug dealers. The only problems that Chesa sees are the victims. Every year, climate-change enthusiasts tell us the earth is getting hotter. Phys.org warned the world, “New 'hottest year on record' likely to occur in the next five years.” C2ES informed readers, “It’s certain: The Earth is getting warmer, and human activity is largely to blame.” Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists’ headline read, “Broken record: The planet is getting hotter. And hotter. And hotter.” But are we really observing record hot years consecutively? While global warming is real and has been happening since the end of the Little Ice Age in the 18th century, the claims surrounding unprecedented temperatures are, at best, highly dubious.

n the Bible there were four horsemen of the apocalypse -- sword, famine, wild beasts, and plague. In the Biden Administration there are three events spelling the doom of this administration and the Democrats: open border policy, inflation, and coercive unscientific public health measures. Catering to the party’s far left has poised the Democrats over a cliff from which I see no soft landing. Without backing off, they’ve lost the favor of the nation. But backing off will fracture the party and cost it its most fervent leftist wing -- indeed, its most strident supporters are already demanding more.

We’re finally getting some clarity about what’s going on with COVID and it’s information that makes even more perplexing the Biden administration’s fanaticism about reintroducing all the COVID restrictions that not only didn’t work last year but were lifted completely for the Black Lives Matter protests and riots. The short version is that the vaccine doesn’t seem to protect against the Delta variant, we’re all still contagious, but (thankfully) we’re not dying like flies. That news, while not uplifting, doesn’t seem to justify the Democrats’ hysteria.
