ISLAND PARK — A mountain biker avoided injury after being chased by a grizzly bear near Island Park Friday morning. The U.S. Forest Service for Caribou-Targhee National Forest posted on Facebook and said a female grizzly bear was sighted in the Stamp Meadows Road area. The bear chased the biker but did not catch or hurt him. (Snip) Earlier this month, a man was attacked by a grizzly bear in the same area near Island Park and survived. A momma grizzly bear charged at Tom Whitney who was jogging on a different section of the trail off Stamp Meadows Road.

Comments:

Sounds like momma grizzly wants to be left alone.

We have increased bear sightings in western Colorado mostly at night. The Grand Junction area remains in a severe drought and wildlife including bear, bighorn sheep, and a slew of deer are now browsing our vegetable gardens and landscaping for something to eat because forage in their habitat toward the Colorado National Monument is scant. Haven't noticed bear scat in your back yard...yet. But, thanks to our Lord, we have received badly needed rain over the past week. Liquid gold.

Being chased by a grizzly might just turn a mediocre biker into a Tour de France competitor. I would be wearing the yellow jersey for sure.

This is why you never jog in grizzly country alone. As long as you are with someone, you don't have to outrun the grizzly bear. You just have to outrun your friend.

I say it's time to relocate Idaho's excess Grizzly bears back to their former native range in California. California environmentalists re-introduced wolves back to Idaho, and it's time to repay the favor. A Grizzly Bear is on California's flag and yet wild Grizzlies have been absent for over 100 years. There are are a lot more bicyclists for them to chase there too. It's a win win.

Black bear attack survival? 80-90% (make your self big and scream your head off). Grizzly bear attack survival? 50-60% (run, climb a tree or play dead - numbers may be quite a bit lower if dealing with a mother with cubs). Polar bear attack survival? Just make sure you've got your affairs in order and prepare yourself for a very unpleasant death - as you'll be held down and ripped to pieces.

TOKYO — The reason the United States finished a sobering fifth in the first Olympic mixed medley swimming relay was not the performance of any of the four swimmers. But the sight of 17-year-old Lydia Jacoby persevering through the breaststroke leg with her goggles in her mouth, having rolled down her face after diving in, served as an apt metaphor. It was a snapshot of a relay gone wrong. Scheduling issues, stamina issues, experience issues—and perhaps biggest of all, trust issues—likely played parts in the worst U.S. relay finish in Olympic history. That makes it all the more frustrating that she fears her breakfast-focused diner could be ruined within months by new rules that could make one of her top menu items — bacon — hard to get in California. “Our number one seller is bacon, eggs and hash browns,” said Kim, who for 15 years has run SAMS American Eatery on the city’s busy Market Street. “It could be devastating for us.” At the beginning of next year, California

This week’s White House Report Card finds President Biden in a bad spot. COVID-19 is on the rise, in part because he failed on his vaccine goal, inflation is on the rise in part due to his spending, the border remains a mess, and his Rasmussen Reports average approval rating is the lowest yet. Conservative grader Jed Babbin gave Biden a D-, citing the problems the president and nation is facing. Democratic pollster John Zogby, however, graded a B-, though he too highlighted the hurdles facing the White House. Jed Babbin Grade D- We’re now more than six months into

People who do not comply with Covid-19 pandemic restrictions are mostly male, more extroverted and more likely to put their own self-interests above those of others, suggests a new study of behaviours internationally. University of Sydney researchers assessed behaviours and attitudes towards Covid regulations in 1,575 people in Australia, Canada, the UK, and the US between April and May last year, during the first wave of the pandemic. Their study, published in the journal Plos One, found that about 10% of people reported being non-compliant with restrictions. These ind

WASHINGTON — A nationwide eviction moratorium is set to expire Saturday after President Joe Biden and Democrats in Congress worked furiously but ultimately failed to align on a long-shot strategy to prevent millions of Americans from being forced from their homes during a COVID-19 surge. When superstar gymnast Simone Biles withdrew from team competition this past week at the Tokyo Olympics, citing emotional exhaustion that was hampering her ability to perform, the world gasped. It seemed not to know what to make of a top athlete — and, in Biles’ case, a cultural phenomenon and a singular force in gymnastics — choosing to step away from a game while it was still in play, especially the Olympics, the most venerated of sporting events. And yet it made perfect sense. Biles was simply saying “no” to the enormous pressure, physical and psychological, that an event like
