Lavita Harvey is well aware the federal moratorium on evictions ends Saturday. The Las Vegas mother of two teenagers lost both of her jobs during the coronavirus pandemic and has been unable to pay her $900-per-month rent. "I'm terrified. Job offers are coming in but they're coming in very slowly," she told CBS News. "It's the hardest thing to see in the world when you know that you're a single mother and you have no one to turn to, you'll be homeless." Harvey has been approved for more than $9,000 in federal rent help through a local program but the

Why not take the first job offer you get for now? Then you can pay the rent and not be awaiting for government benefits.

And why is Lavita entitled to steal the property of someone else? Even if the property owners have their mortgage covered, they are still paying property taxes, insurance, and most likely associations without any compensation or "forgiveness." Lavita is a thief.

'single mother' does it for me . WHY ?? Divorced, never had a husband, husband dies, or just WHAT HAPPENED. There are casino jobs in Las Vegas, along with numerous other openings. But the landlord is supposed to suffer because their tenants want to sit home and collect benefits.

Any concern by CBS news for the plight of the landlords, as official government policy allows the freeloaders to continue to steal from them. Will any of the freeloaders once employed pay back the debt they have incurred?

So there is government money on the way, but the government can't seem to deliver it. GOVERNMENT created this problem by shutting down the economy without thought for the consequences. When this moratorium ends it is going to be a catastrophe for everyone involved: renters, landlords, bankers - you name it.

This woman has probably enjoyed a year-long, rent-free vacation on government largesse with no thought about the day the rent would come due. Most states have been open for business for several months, and there are plenty of jobs available that would pay the bills until the right job comes along. She miscalculated and thought the free ride would continue for a while longer.

Sorry to be so old fashioned but where is/are the father/s? Why are strangers on the hook for Ms. Harvey’s decision to have children while financially unable to support them but the other parent is not at all responsible? Taxpayers need some sort of alimony from irresponsible parents and black welfare recipients can consider their welfare payments for the last 57 years as reparations.

You just started to get your child tax credit for your teen children ($500 per month). This is probably on top of the unemployment, Medicaid, food stamps, and the $9000 of Federal Rental Assistance mentioned in the article which is 10 month worth of your rent. You probably also get a bunch of other government largess due to the kids. How about child support from the father? Better yet, accept one of those "slow to come in job offers". Get off your lazy butt and get looking for a job. Just walk down the strip in Vegas and walk into any building. Chances are they are hiring. Unless you have a criminal record (which may prevent you from working at a casino) or are just plain lazy, you can gat a job if you really want one. Figure it out! You are an adult. Act like one.

I know three people who can pay rent who have to move and can't find any help. One person had been renting a home for years when the owner decided to sell.
