A Confederate monument that helped spark the violent 'Unite the Right' rally in Charlottesville four years ago, will be removed on Saturday, the city announced Friday. In a news release, Charlottesville confirmed the statue removal of Confederate General Robert E. Lee, along with a statue of Confederate Gen. Thomas 'Stonewall' Jackson. Notice that the ''unite the right'' rally is described as ''deadly'', because one counter-protestor was killed from being hit by a car. Meanwhile, the mostly peaceful George Floyd riots resulted in 24 deaths, most of them black.

The Unite the Right rally would have been harmless had not the Antifa crowd, which had no permit, come to stir up trouble. They simply wanted monuments that commemorated Confederate history to remain in place. The authorities should never have pushed the two factions out of the area in the same direction.

Robert E. Lee was revered by many, and not just Confederates, as a great man. He fought for Virginia, for state sovereignty, not for slavery per se.. He was actually anti-slavery. Before the Civil War, he had fought for the United States. In the end, he peacefully surrendered and tried to bring reconciliation. Will they rename Washington and Lee University? Or the Lee highway? Or the many other things named after him?

#13, students should also burn down Yale University for the same reason. How long before the students at Washington and Lee University demand that Lee’s body be disinterred and his chapel burned down? And how does all of this help even one single downtrodden black? Will it finally make blacks stop shooting each other by the dozens to hundreds every weekend? Will it end the destruction of 40-60% of black children in the womb? Will it feed even one black child? Is it going to stop blacks from attacking random whites and Asians? No. It’s only going to make everything worse. And it’s turning people who never had a racist thought into something else entirely.

Good. It should have come down the day after it went up. Lee was a traitor who took up arms against his country, a Southern Benedict Arnold. The Civil War was not about "states' rights" plural. It was about a single state right, the right to preserve slavery for the sole benefit of the Big Cotton oligarchs who made their wealth from it. Anyone who doubts that should read the secession statements of the seceding states. The North won the war, but lost reconstruction, which is why we are still having these stupid conversations about these statues.

There are lots of unpublished, disheartening things happening at VMI, and the hotel caved and was renamed to appease to the woke element. I am angry and saddened what is going on there and throughout the state and fear what's next - Mount Vernon, Monticello, Williamsburg... I don't see a way out of this until local politics, school boards, higher education, governor, etc. change and revert course. Northern Virginia is long gone to the libs, and it's spread to Charlottesville. We're in big trouble.

#28 your ignorance of the true history of the time is very telling. Might I suggest that you step outside of your so called public education plus your reliance on the MSM. Lee was not the traitor, Lincoln was. The war was about States rights not to be under the thumb of a tyrannical government, (Republican by the way), that had imposed erroneous taxes and tarif's that benefited the North while hurting southern agriculture. I will not deny that slavery was an issue, but it wasn't the main issue And Lee was not disloyal. If you have a problem with this, please answer this question, why was none of the senior Southern leadership ever tried for treason? You will only know the truth when you prove it for yourself, don't believe me or anybody else, prove it for your self and you will educate yourself in the process. Good fortune and Gods bless.

This could only happen in Marxist Charlottesville, home to the University of Virginia. Go ten miles outside of Charlottesville in any direction, and this would not go over well at all. They're removing Gen. Lee and Stonewall Jackson in Charlottesville, but there are dozens of statues of these two generals everywhere in that region and in Virginia. Most of the battles of the Civil War were fought in Virginia. They can't remove all the monuments. There are a lot of people that will not allow it.
