Crowds cheered as workers removed a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee in Charlottesville, Virginia on Saturday morning following a contentious four year legal battle. The 26-foot tall bronze monument - which has stood in the city's Emancipation Park since 1924 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997 - was hoisted off it base with a crane shortly after 8am. It will now be placed in storage. A separate statue of Confederate General Thomas 'Stonewall' Jackson will also be removed in Charlottesville on Saturday afternoon. Both Lee and Jackson fought against the abolition of slavery in the US Civil War.

Robert E Lee was a true American patriot and hero....men of such honor and integrity are extremely hard to find now. It sickens me that misguided morons on the left want to "cancel" him because there was slavery in the south...and that makes anyone who lived there or fought for The South to be "evil '...?? ....meanwhile they ignore that politicians of the current left today support baby murdering...???

Explain to me how this is any different than ISIS destroying anything in the ME that was counter to their pedophile prophet? Well done, libtrash. You are now the moral equivalent of ISIS. Demmunists desperate to remove their links to the institution of slavery by any means available. You erase history to prevent it from ever being studied.

Charlottesville is a college town to the University of Virginia (UVa)...founded, by the way, by Thomas Jefferson. As a college town to UVa, Charlottesville has its share of loud and obnoxious pinko lefties from both the faculty and the student body. The cheering is not necessarily a reflection of the native 'townies'.

Robert E. Lee was a great man. Statue or no statue, that doesn't change. Pitiful, useless fools cheering the removal of a statue of a great man do not make their pitiful, useless, nasty, irrelevant little lazy lives one iota better or more important. Losers trying to bring down a great man.

"Both Lee and Jackson fought against the abolition of slavery in the US Civil War." I don't believe that is an accurate statement. What they were really fighting for was their freedom from a tyrannical centralized government, much like we have today.

Another excuse to drive home the operative narrative, with the loaded phrase "the deadly Unite The Right rally"... the goal of which, without a doubt, is to cement "deadly" with "right" and justify the coming force to suppress all non-Socialists.

The Bible neither condemns nor condones "slavery" in fact it has been a way of life in the near and middle east for thousands of years. Everyone, white, brown, black have been "slaves" and the FIRST ones in North America were (drum roll please) WHITE! The blacks came with a price; the whites were free of charge from England and could be worked to death (and were). Before Australia was established as a penal colony for the British, there were the Colonies in North America, and this is where they dumped their Irish Catholics, London street urchin children, and even Continental Europeans they'd captured on ships, etc. It's truly sad that American kids don't learn the WHOLE history of slavery in North America... it's not all about Africans. And besides, there were a whole lot of freed black slaves who owned slaves themselves! Teach them THAT history too!

The Texas state Senate approved a sweeping election reform bill Tuesday night, one day after dozens of House Democrats fled the state to prevent the chamber from taking up the legislation. The state Senate approved the bill on an 18-4 party-line vote. Nine Senate Democrats had joined 51 of their House colleagues in hightailing it to Washington, DC, though this was not enough to deny the upper chamber a quorum. However, the legislation is now stalled due to the absence of a quorum in the House.Republicans say the measures in the bill — which include ending drive-thru and 24-hour polling places, banning ballot drop boxes, and empowering partisan poll watchers —
