A tourist from South America was attacked by a homeless person who hit him in the head with a metal pipe near Manhattan’s Port Authority Midtown Bus Terminal Wednesday. The 66-year-old man, who is from Columbia, was walking with his family at West 40th Street and 8th Avenue at 11:40 a.m. when Wayne Lawton Welds allegedly approached him from behind and whacked him on the head with the blunt object, police said. The victim’s daughter scared off Welds, 25, after the unprovoked attack, and the suspect fled into the subway, according to the NYPD. The tourist was treated for a head laceration at Bellevue Hospital,

A Black Jewish diversity chief at a nonprofit group for children’s book authors resigned amid backlash after she neglected to specifically condemn Islamophobia in a statement denouncing antisemitism. April Powers, chief equity and inclusion officer at the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, issued a statement this month saying the organization denounces “all forms of hate, including antisemitism,” citing an uptick in crimes against Jewish people. Critics apparently took issue with Islamophobia not being specifically mentioned in the statement. Ms. Powers apologized in a statement announcing her resignation Sunday, saying she “neglected to address the rise in Islamophobia, and deeply regret that omission.”

As the victim and his pals, all traveling together from the West Coast, sat at some benches to eat their food, the stranger walked over to another bench, put down his food and backpack

Joe Biden entertained his son's business associates in the vice president's office, including Mexican billionaires Carlos Slim and Miguel Alemán Velasco. The then-vice president also flew Hunter and his partner Jeff Cooper on Air Force 2 to Mexico City in 2016 where Hunter arranged to meet Alemán's son for meetings over a 'flippin gigantic' business deal. The revelations, laid bare in photographs and emails on Hunter's abandoned laptop, are the latest in a growing body of evidence calling into question the president’s claim that he never spoke about business with Hunter. In the light of shocking documents uncovered by DailyMail.com from the laptop,

America’s most iconic youth organizations–the Boy Scouts of America and the Girl Scouts of the USA–have been jolted by unprecedented one-year drops in membership, due partly to the pandemic, and partly to social trends that have been shrinking their ranks for decades. Membership for the BSA’s flagship Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA programs dropped from 1.97 million in 2019 to 1.12 million in 2020, a 43% plunge, according to figures provided to The Associated Press. Court records show membership has fallen further since then, to about 762,000. The Girl Scouts say their youth membership fell by nearly 30%, from about 1.4 million in 2019

America’s first black billionaire, Robert Johnson, is pushing hard for the government to pay $14 trillion in reparations—and he wants his check just like everyone else. “Reparations would require the entire country to… admit that the result of slavery has been 200 years of systemic racism,” the Black Entertainment Television (BET) founder told Vice. “And for that reason, black folks have been denied $13-15 trillion of wealth and therefore we as a country now must atone by paying black people of all stripes—the rich ones, the poor ones, and the middle—out of our pocket,” Johnson told the outlet.

A 66-year-old hot dog seller has told of his terror as he was attacked by a woman in Washington Square Park on Sunday night, describing how he feared he would 'bleed to death' as he was punched in the head and had hot sauce thrown in his eyes. Nader Hassaneen, an Egyptian immigrant and street vendor, told The New York Post on Tuesday he would 'never go back' to the Manhattan park, which has been plagued by crime in recent weeks. The trouble began during Sunday's Pride celebrations, he said, when just before 11pm a woman pulled an American flag from the cart, demanding it be replaced

The people don’t believe Washington looks out for their interests—and it doesn’t make much difference whether “the people” are Republicans, Democrats or independents. According to a survey released Wednesday, more than three-fifths of all voters, including three-fourths of Republicans and a majority of Democrats, think that “the will of the people is no longer a consideration to leaders in D.C. when making policy or legislative decisions.” The exact numbers were 62.4% of likely voters in the 2022 midterm elections, including 76.4% of Republicans, 50.4% of Democrats and 59% of “no party / other” voters believed that Washington ignores the popular will.

Sen. Rand Paul says Americans must not let “the fearmongers win” as rhetoric about the dangers of the Delta variant of COVID-19 heats up. The Kentucky Republican took to Twitter on Tuesday with some statistics on the contagion’s Delta strain, which originated in India. “Don’t let the fearmongers win,” Mr. Paul told his 3.2 million followers. “New public England study of delta variant shows 44 deaths out of 53,822 (.08%) in unvaccinated group. Hmmm.”(Snip) Los Angeles County answered the president’s call, for example, by urging citizens to wear masks inside, even if they are fully vaccinated. “With increase circulation of the highly transmissible delta variant,

President Biden deployed his stage whisper during a speech in Wisconsin on Tuesday as he went about selling his infrastructure deal to the public and outlining plans to give tax breaks to ordinary families. It was a standout moment as he described the urgent need for a 'generational investment' and looked to persuade voters of the economic benefits of a $973 billion bipartisan package.(Snip) He dropped his voice and leaned into the microphone to deliver a conspiratorial word to people watching at home. 'Hey guys, I think it's time to give ordinary people a tax break,' he whispered. 'The wealthy are doing fine.'
