Sure you don’t want to say anything else, Joe?
Vice President Kamala Harris appeared to remind President Biden to mention the deadly South Florida condo collapse before leaving a White House event Thursday. Biden had given remarks on infrastructure and taken questions from the press on that issue as well as voting rights. He then attempted to wrap up by telling reporters “I’ve got to get to a helicopter” before Harris approached. The president and vice president exchanged a brief, whispered conversation that concluded with Harris saying, “Florida, yeah.” “Oh, yes. I apologize,” Biden said, turning back to the microphone as Harris retreated out of camera view.

A Massachusetts town has created a fund to pay reparations to black residents as communities and institutions across the country look to atone for slavery, discrimination and past wrongs amid the nation's ongoing racial reckoning. The Amherst Town Council on Monday voted 12-1 in favor of establishing the fund and requiring a two-thirds vote of the council to authorize any spending from it, The Daily Hampshire Gazette reported.
The town, which is located some 90 miles from Boston and has a population of just under 38,000, has yet to decide how a person would become eligible for the reparation fund,

President Biden on Thursday repeatedly whispered to reporters during an impromptu press conference at the White House—drawing bemused social media speculation and jokes about the “really creepy” exchanges. On three separate occasions, Biden hunched over his lectern in the White House East Room and forcefully whispered to reporters.(Snip)The bizarre presidential performance drew significant feedback. “This is nuts,” wrote Republican strategist Matt Whitlock, who tweeted a compilation reel. Abigail Marone, press secretary to Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) tweeted, “The Biden lean in and long whisper into the mic was very very bizarre.” Podcaster Chase Geiser captioned the clip: “BIDEN: Should I do the whisper thing?

New York—New York has added an “X” gender-neutral option for birth certificates and other state-issued identification cards for those who wish not to specify their gender. Cuomo signed the bill into law Thursday on the 10th anniversary of the New York’s Marriage Equality Act being signed into law, calling it “the next step forward.” “Every New Yorker deserves to be free from discrimination and have state-issued identification and processes that respect them for who they are, recognize their gender identity and protect their safety,” Cuomo said. “New York continues to lead the way in ensuring LGBTQ people are treated equally in every part

British folk-rocker Winston Marshall announced Thursday he‘s leaving Mumford & Sons after his praise of conservative journalist Andy Ngo sparked a left-wing backlash more than three months ago. Mr. Marshall stepped into hot water in March after he praised Mr. Ngo for his new book, tweeting: “Congratulations @MrAndyNgo. Finally had the time to read your important book. You’re a brave man.” “Thank you so much,” responded Mr. Ngo, author of “Unmasked: Inside Antifa’s Radical Plan to Destroy Democracy,” an Amazon bestseller that is critical of the Antifa movement. The brief exchange received an onslaught of criticism from fans and fellow musicians,

The Salvation Army — best known for its red kettle donation stands at Christmas—has released a racial reconciliation curriculum urging its members to apologize for past racial sins. In “Let’s Talk About Racism,” the evangelical organization declares: “[A]s we engage in conversations about race and racism, we must keep in mind that sincere repentance and apologies are necessary if we want to move towards racial reconciliation … Perhaps you don’t feel as if you personally have done anything wrong, but you can spend time repenting on behalf of the Church and asking for God to open hearts and minds to the issue of racism.”

The NYPD has added new training to help officers deescalate situations with the mentally ill who are unarmed or carrying a weapon other than a gun.
The new curriculum, called Integrating Communications, Assessment and Tactics, teaches cops how to recognize people in crisis and offers critical thinking skills and safety tactics. It offers better ways to communicate with someone in emotional or psychiatric distress. Chuck Wexler, head of the Police Executive Research Forum, a nonprofit that is focused on policing issues and helped developed ICAT, said he believes the new training “is going to change policing in the country.”

Transgender runner CeCe Telfer will not be allowed to compete in the women's 400-meter hurdles at US Olympic trials because she has not demonstrated that she meets the testosterone requirements. Telfer was entered in this week's trials but was ultimately not allowed to compete because of guidelines World Athletics released in 2019 that closed off international women's events of between 400 meters and a mile to athletes who did not meet the eligibility requirements. Among those requirements was that their testosterone levels had to be below 5 nonomoles per liter (nmol/L) for a span of 12 months. Her exact violation has not been made clear publicly,

A liberal arts college in Massachusetts has warned its students and faculty against using 'violent language'—even banning the phrase 'trigger warning' for its association with guns. Brandeis University in Waltham has created an anti-violence resource called the Prevention, Advocacy & Resource Center which provides information and advice to students and staff.(Snip) The college claims that 'picnic is often associated with lynchings of black people in the United States, during which white spectators were said to have watched while eating, referring to them as picnics or other terms involving racial slurs against black people.'
Picnic is derived from the French 'pique-nique,'

Children have faced “frequent lice outbreaks” at one emergency shelter in Texas set up to handle the surge of juveniles jumping the border, a court-ordered audit says. At a shelter in San Diego, children were denied chances to phone their families for up to three weeks while authorities tried to figure out whether the calls were appropriate and safe. Children can now place calls within two days of arriving, but the bungle is one of many that the Biden administration has made as the migrant surge continues and record numbers of children are showing up without parents.(Snip)Girls suffered panic attacks and faced “frequent lice outbreaks.”

Software tycoon John McAfee, who died from an apparent suicide in a Spanish jail cell Wednesday, sent a cryptic tweet last year that if he was found hanged behind bars like Jeffrey Epstein, “it would be no fault of mine.”
“I am content in here. I have friends,” the eccentric entrepreneur tweeted on Oct. 15. “The food is good. All is well.”(Snip)
McAfee, 75, was found hanging in his Barcelona cell Wednesday, just hours after a Spanish court ruled that he would be extradited to the US to face federal tax evasion charges.
Officials said they ruled out foul play in his death,
