On 6 April 2021, the Arkansas General Assembly passed Act 626 into law, overcoming Governor Asa Hutchinson’s veto less than 24 hours prior. The Act states that “a physician or other healthcare professional shall not provide gender transition procedures to any individual under eighteen (18) years of age,” nor refer any individual to another healthcare provider for the same purpose.A federal lawsuit, Dylan Brandt, et al v. Leslie Rutledge et al, was subsequently filed in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas, contending that the law as passed violates the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment “by enacting legislation that wholesale prohibits healthcare providers from providing

I'm never sure how Chief Judas John Roberts will rule, but I am troubled by the 'no referral' part of that law. My guess is the law will be struck down because of that. (freedom of association might be used to reach that conclusion.)

This law is necessary to protect kids. Plenty of nutty parents want to be able to brag about their transgender kid. From what I have read doctors cannot even counsel individuals or families in the case of children, in the wisdom of gender "changing" medications and surgeries. They can only affirm the persons desire to change, whether child or adult. If they don't they can lose their license to practice. When will doctors be forced to perform gastric bypass on anorexic's? What is the difference? Both patients see themselves, and BELIEVE themselves to be one way and society see the reality. We are all forced to participate in fantasy. And...why do transgenders have to announce that they are transgender?

Medically necessary care my foot. They're completely unnecessary and constitute child abuse. In a sane world, it would not be necessary to prohibit such procedures because few would request them and nobody in his or her right mind would perform them.
