“We have had the most extraordinary year of drought & cold ever known in the history of America. . . . The crop of corn thro’ the Atlantic states will probably be less than 1/3 of an ordinary one, that of tobo still less, and of mean quality. The crop of wheat was midling in quantity, but excellent in quality. But every species of bread grain taken together will not be sufficient for the subsistence of the inhabitants.” --Thomas Jefferson, in a letter to Albert Gallatin, 8 September 1816. 1816 was the year without a summer. It was the trough of the Dalton Minimum (not even a grand solar minimum)
In the end it will all come down to who had the most ammo.

Maybe this is the dark winter xiden was speaking of. It didn't happen this past winter, but it's coming. . .

first world problem! I've been hoarding TP since 2015. I had fears that BO would declare martial law, stop commerce and cancel the 2016 elections.
It looks like the 2020 election was canceled.

We’ve been stockpiling food since the Smidgen reign of error and we’re set. Not from fear of weather conditions but from fear of the government.

no mention of potable water, energy and waste disposal.
what happens when city and power company workers don't, won't, can't?
we are mostly an urban society reliant on more than food

ask california farmers how they like seeing their reservoir water run into the ocean to save the non native delta smelt. Someone said years ago the San Joaquin valley could feed the entire world. Not under a socialist gov't. Cali reservoirs are at record lows not only because of drought but because of above water releases. Plus, population has probably doubled or tripled (illegals) over decades with not one new reservoir built. Gov't forecasting rolling blackouts again this summer, add some food shortages, water rationing into that mix and watch the cities and (sadly) the suburbs as well, the ferals know where the prey is.
Lots of friends and former coworkers still live in parts of Cali, I hope they have organized to protect their areas.

What cold? Aren't we supposed to be under record temperatures brought on by man made global warming?

The lists this writer includes for a years' worth of food, depend on working electricity.
So much on the lists needs freezer or refrigerator working even as the food supply dries up.
Don't count on that.
At least here in Utah, you can get powdered egg, powdered butter, and meat-based meals in packaging that is safe for 25 years at room temperature.

Assuming it happens at all. Besides, who has that kind of storage space for food.

While I appreciate his thoughts, I am far far more worried about the effect of modern geo-political crap on agriculture and food production than the weather at this point. Agriculture and food storage has improved by leaps and bounds in the past 200 years. We are producing meat from every critter with more protein, less waste, and with less feed put into the beast. Broiler chickens, hogs, and beef cattle have all been radically improved in the past 200 years. That doesn't even touch on the improvement to grain and starch based crops which are the backbone of every civilization. Not to mention the US has expanded its boundaries and arable land a touch since 1816. Were we all still living on subsistence farms, I'd be far more worried about the weather.

If the biowar against us continues, and the 'vaccine' has negative long term consequences, the population will be greatly diminished, too.
This year looks like a bumper crop for wheat in western KS and eastern Colorado, barring a too wet harvest season (already started in the south). I, too, have been watching the sun spot activity slowly dwindle over the last 4 cycles (44 years), knowing that the Maunder Minimum correlated with hard times, along with several big volcanic eruptions. The Year Without Summer is well documented, it really happened.
We have moderate quantities of food stored, but could increase the amounts pretty easily, at this time. The comments on ammunition are valid, too and those who live outside of the big cities, have some growing, storing and basic baking and cooking skills will do far better. Those who live in big cities and think "food comes from the restaurant" or "food comes from the grocery store" will do poorly if hard times come again.
Hoping to not see those times, but who knows.

#1 is correct. In addition to stocking up on food, stock up on ammo and firearms. When hoards of people are hungry, people will resort to theft.

The people in my rural area have plenty of ammo but as my retired cop BIL says, if you have to use it to protect your food you best we pray SOMEBODY has put in better laws than we have now to keep us out of jail.
