The Supreme Court is being asked to decide whether it is discrimination for the government to require only men to register for the draft when they turn 18.The question of whether it is unconstitutional to require men but not women to register could be viewed as one with little practical impact. The last time there was a draft was during the Vietnam War, and the military has been all-volunteer since. But the registration requirement is one of the few remaining places where federal law treats men and women differently, and women's groups are among those arguing that allowing it to stand is harmful.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. These womyn's groups will lose most of their backing once all these advocates realize they might get called up to fight and die in the trenches just like men. These malcontents break a lot of rock over equality in all positions of society; let them get called up just like the males.
I am all for this personally. Israeli women serve along side their male counterparts, and do so with distinction. If the loudmouths in this country want true equality, let them have it. I don't want to hear any screeching down the road about it being unfair when women actually get called upon to defend our country.

Inasmuch as thete isn’t now - and probably never will be - another military draft in the US, I predict the SCOTUS won’t take the case as moot....but who knows with our very blatantly political Chief Justice?

The joke's on them. When American men lose the next major boots-on-ground-war, and they will, American womyn will be the last line of defense. They will all have to put on their pink pussy hats, jump on their unicorns and ride screaming into battle. The battle cry will be, "It's not fair!!!"

Excellent idea, drafting women. Just imagine - an army of screeching Karens could be just as lethal and an army of screeching Amazons.

I am with #1 on this. Not because I think women should be in combat because I don’t but because those whining feminist women should also be subject to lose years of their life to serve in the military. You wanted “equality “ girls. You got it.

I agree, woman should be made to register. If the feminists want equality, I think they should get it, good and hard.
Being shot at is not fun, so all should have the opportunity, since gender is as fluid, as pee running down your leg under fire......

Saw a headline about this today that asked the question, " Is the draft discrimination against women?" Everything in the minds of these numb nuts is discrimination against blacks or women. Men don't count.

The article omits an important fact.
When the filthy islamofacist terrorist Iranian pigs took over the American Embassy in Tehran, and captured the Embassy staff, Jimmy Carter was our wimpy president, and didn't know what to do.
so he decided that re-imposing registration for selective service would frighten the Iranian pigs.
It was pathetic.

I have made this suggestion many time simply because I think this will end the draft. The draft is indentured servitude, an archaic hold over from the time when old, rich, and powerful men sent young poor boys off to fight wars for the political and financial benefit of the old men. No one, man or woman, should be drafted, period. A volunteer military is far more effective and usually better educated.

Men, Women... hey, how about the tens of millions of illegal immigrants? Are they elite and superior over common peasants and above being required to register? Equal justice... right.

The draft ended in 1973. Since 1980 it's only been registration.

There is no draft. But men have to register. And that includes resident aliens and even illegals.
Now go down to the mall and tell your average 18 year old mall rat she HAS to do something and see how far you get.

Looking back it would have done me a world of good to have served my country for a couple of years when 18. Not real sure I would have/could have cut it. To have cut it I would have to had matured a lot in a hurry and that's just what I needed.

The Asso Press uses the word ''Must'' like they even knew the meaning. Besides, registering for the draft is MOOT. Duh. We have an ''all volunteer'' army now, unless it escaped their notice.

A nation is on the downward spiral when it sends it's women into battle -- even those who volunteer!!!!
To force women to register for the draft, knowing they would be drafted if we got into another war where the draft was needed, would be the final death knell for our nation!!!
No!!! Stop the stupid femi-Nazi's from destroying all that is special and holy about being a woman!!!!!

Well women wanted combat jobs and the demonrats gave them that right. Ergo, the SC should make women register for the draft.

If the ERA had been added to the Constitution fifty years ago, women would have been subject to the draft all this time, and in all likelihood subject to frontline combat assignments as well.

Back in the early 2000's, a group of women were agitating for equal treatment in the military. However, this group of women weren't wearing the uniform. Never carried a weapon. Never went to basic training. Never dug a foxhole. Never went on a road march. Ignorant fools! And now we have stupid Kamala Harris saying soldiers would rather carry a roll-up solar panel as opposed to batteries. Stupid women!! Harris, like those stupid women, know NOTHING about being in the military.

This has already been decided by the court. The plaintiff is a women's rights group so it should be obvious that the group should not be able to show standing. Also the court chooses what cases to put on its docket and if the court were to hear this silly case then some case with actual merit would go unheard.

I had this discussion when my two sons turned 18. Failure to register for the draft has real penalties. You won't be able to get federally funded student loans, it has implications for bonding and security transactions, and it definitely sends a message to future employers.
There are penalties, and they're real. I have often argued that it's a sexist policy that's a holdover.
BTW, I'm retired military, and I even am old enough that the first unit I was assigned to had draftees. We hated them. Caused most of the personnel problems, and had a penchant for going AWOL.
Best thing ever happened to the military was the all volunteer Army. But it's only fair that women register.
