It was on shaky ground. A Chinese skyscraper had to be evacuated Tuesday afternoon after it began inexplicably swaying on its foundation, prompting scores of bystanders to flee in terror, as seen in a series of viral videos circulating social media. The shaky incident occurred around 1 p.m. at Shenzhen’s SEG Electronics Building, which is one of China’s tallest structures in the city at a whopping 980 feet tall.(Snip) A follow-up clip posted by local media shows the top of the 73-story structure, on which two white conductor poles can be seen wobbling precariously. The building was sealed off around 2:40 p.m.

The building is 20 years old - perhaps there are structural problems that have gradually gotten worse. The Chinese government has said the shaking is 'an anomaly' and that all is well.

Oh, come on....'everyone knows' that that concrete will be 'just as good' with four bags of portland cement instead of six bag mix and make up the extra with sand. And that 36,000 psi structural steel isn't REALLY necessary, nobody will ever even notice if the cheaper 18,000 psi stuff is used and the contractor pockets the difference.
And nobody will ever know if the steel rebar spacing is 6 inches instead of the specified 4 inches, once the concrete is poured. Once it's done, who's to know?
Third world places, with third world inspectors, third world contractors and buildings that sometimes just fall down.

#3, it's more like the square root of 10,000 yuan goes into an inspector's pocket, how many times? New Chinese math.

Notice in this photo, that NONE of the foundation piers (tubes) are showing ANY steel rebar projecting out of the broken ends? OOPS...."nobody will notice if we leave out the rebar, Chang" doesn't always work. The loads on piers are not always compression it turns out. THAT's why there is supposed to be steel in them.

Did Stacey Abrams walk by? Didn't know she was visiting China.
Seriously, China will eventually have to deal with its poor building practices. Something will collapse that is impossible to hide.

In China all the money used to build ANY building gets divvied up under the table to friends and family members while construction quality is always atrocious. China's newly built houses are famous for "melting" in the rain. The Epoch Times has videos secreted out of China showing this. Trust Chinese construction for nothing. Even their military gear is pathetic, as India discovered during skirmishes in the northern contested regions.

I guess they haven't stolen the ability to construct buildings that last. I've seen a number of shows that China has built structures in cities that are made out of cardboard with stucco on top. The building looks nice, but one can almost punch a hole through the outside walls. China has done this to make it look modern and nice. No one lives or works in these buildings, it's all for show.

The Chinese rulers don't respect human life unless it's their own. And watch out, under our current administration they will be coming here to take away our construction projects, while the White House folks get richer.

I have worked with Chinese engineers. Nice people, smart and pleasant to work with (although there are many that will actively steal proprietary infromation.)
But they never, ever question their managers. They do what they are told and if they see a problem, they say nothing. I will not be surprised if this building topples to the ground. A few years ago, a bridge in China did that very thing. It just collapsed.

The Three Gorges Dam...China's biggest ever construction project. Not only is it incapable of actually stopping downstream flooding, because it can't hold enough water, but .....it has already started to move erratically, as shown by sat photos which the Chinese folks say "could have been doctored".
Yeah, but they weren't, I'll bet.
