The family of Ashli Babbitt, who was fatally shot while participating in the Jan. 6 invasion of the U.S. Capitol, plans to sue the police department and the officer who fired the gun for at least $10 million. News of the forthcoming lawsuit, first reported by Newsweek, came more than two weeks after the Justice Department said it would not file criminal charges against the officer who killed Babbitt. What on earth did this beautiful, patriotic American do that 10,000 rioters across America have done with no consequence? There can be no excuse for what happened and the parents deserve at least $27 million + $1.

The Federal Government will probably rush to settle this civil case to avoid the discovery phase of the trial and the trial itself, even though in DC with such an apparent racially loaded case, the Feds should be able to manipulate a favorable jury.

The Gubbermint will fight this tooth and nail. Others are right, they should have asked for $100 million. This will drag out for years as the JustUs department refuses to cooperate, produce documents, and redacts everything it can in the name of national security.

One reason there has been no filing is because Congress protects itself from lawsuits. There are several hoops to go through, and the journey hasn't apparently even begun. It will never go into a courtroom.

Sen. Joe Manchin, the moderate Democrat from West Virginia, said in an interview Friday that he opposes legislation to give Washington, D.C., statehood — effectively killing a Democratic-led effort to reshape the American political map. "If Congress wants to make D.C. a state, it should propose a constitutional amendment and let the people of America vote," Manchin told WV MetroNews Talkline, a West Virginia news outlet. Asked directly if he would oppose unilateral action by Congress to make the district a state, Manchin replied, "Yes, I would." Stasha Rhodes, the campaign director for the pro-D.C.-statehood group 51 for 51, said in response

A Texas rancher's TV interview about the crisis on the border was interrupted when federal agents stormed his property chasing migrants as he said he was 'under siege' amid the crisis. John Sewell was speaking live from his property to Fox News about the border crisis, saying he had already caught three migrants at his ranch that day before breakfast. Dana Perino was attempting to read a statement issued by Sen. Mark Kelly about President Joe Biden's speech on Wednesday but dogs were heard loudly barking in the background. U.S. resistance to getting a COVID-19 vaccine is slowly diminishing, a new online survey finds, but it still exists and at especially high rates in some blue-collar jobs -- and nearly half of respondents are worried about side effects. For adults under age 65 who are hesitant, reluctance is mainly driven by concerns about safety, side effects and distrust in government, the poll found. It's also largely linked to people's line of work. The bottom line: "Vaccine hesitancy is emerging as a key barrier to ending the COVID-19 pandemic," said lead author Wendy King, associate professor of epidemiology in the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health.

The Transportation Security Administration announced Friday it will extend a federal mandate that requires people to wear masks in transportation settings, including at airports, on commercial aircraft and on commuter bus and rail systems, through Sept. 13. The initial requirement went into effect Feb. 1 and was set to expire May 11. “The federal mask requirement throughout the transportation system seeks to minimize the spread of COVID-19 on public transportation,” Darby LaJoye, the senior official performing the duties of the TSA administrator, said in a statement. “About half of all adults have at least one vaccination shot and masks remain an important tool in defeating this pandemic.”

As of this week, roughly 43% of Americans have received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, and 29% are considered “fully vaccinated” (meaning they have received one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, or two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine). However, not everyone wants to receive the vaccine. Some parts of the country are turning away new shipments of the vaccine, including parts of Louisiana and three-quarters of the counties in the state of Kansas, because local demand has been satisfied. A recent poll by the Kaiser Family Foundation showed that 20% of people would “definitely not” receive the vaccine or receive it “only if required.”

WASHINGTON — On Friday morning, first lady Jill Biden participated in an Arbor Day event on the North Lawn of the White House, shoveling some soil on a newly planted linden tree. Such events are routine for a presidential spouse and go largely unnoticed. Indeed, there was nothing readily remarkable about Friday morning’s event, save for one detail: the first lady, who was vaccinated against the coronavirus months ago, wore a face mask. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, vaccinated people no longer have to wear face masks outdoors, except when in large-scale settings like concerts and political rallies. And yet

President Joe Biden plans to restrict travel from India on May 4 over the country’s coronavirus surge, despite describing such bans as “xenophobic” during the 2020 presidential campaign. The president plans to act on advice from federal health officials, Reuters reported Friday, citing a White House official. The official said the travel ban from India would be announced Friday “in light of extraordinarily high COVID-19 caseloads and multiple variants circulating in India.” The ban prevents foreign nationals from entering the United States through India if they have been in the country within the last 14 days. India has experienced a dramatic surge

Joe Biden’s administration, seeking deep cuts to planet-heating emissions, is facing pressure to take a previously unthinkable step: declare the end of the internal combustion engine in the US. Washington state has moved to call time on the age of gasoline and diesel cars, with the legislature passing a goal that new car sales be only zero-emission vehicles from 2030, including out of state purchases that are then imported.
