With MLB moving
the All-Star Game from Atlanta,
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett
has made his pitch

Only hours after Major League Baseball announced Friday it was moving this year’s All-Star Game from Atlanta, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett made a plea to Commissioner Rob Manfred to bring the game to American Family Field. Manfred and MLB made the decision to remove the game from Atlanta’s Truist Park in response to Georgia enacting a new law last month restricting voting rights.

Comments:

This is rich...Milwaukee is often cited as "The Most Segregated City in America." Makes perfect sense in a "woke" world.

Little Tommy should stick to playing with his toy trolley system. Insofar as I know, Wisconsin also has a photo ID voting law in place.

Shouldn't it be played in Minneapolis' George Floyd Memorial Park? With everyone double and triple masked they can kneel ( socially distanced, of course) and safely and accurately chant "I can't breathe" instead of singing the National Anthem. S/off

That makes great democrat sense. Move the game from the tribal territory of woke Atlanta to the tribal territory of woke Milwaukee. It will be a much better atmosphere. Maybe they can play a tribute to Saint George during the seventh inning stretch and really stir them up.

Opinion: There can be no American
democracy without a free press

There’s a reason we need a free press, despite its faults and foibles: Democracy won’t work without it. The grand experiment in self-governance that is the United States is rooted in trust and confidence we all will work toward the greater good. But the nation’s founders had experience with a king and his expected benevolence — and what could happen when things didn’t work out.

For the third time in less than 30 hours, four justices on the state Supreme Court dealt President Donald Trump a setback Friday, saying they wouldn't accept a lawsuit by Trump allies who wanted to let Republican lawmakers instead of voters decide how to cast the state's electoral votes. As with two decisions Thursday, Friday's ruling was 4-3, with conservative Justice Brian Hagedorn joining the court's liberals to rebuff the president as he seeks to take away Democrat Joe Biden's narrow win of the state. "The relief being sought by the petitioners is the most dramatic invocation of judicial power I have ever seen," Hagedorn wrote.

Now, the neighborhood's location within walking distance of the Fiserv Forum and related projects has put its housing in high demand and led to a sharp rise in property taxes. In recent decades, the adjacent Brewers Hill neighborhood experienced gentrification, with longtime residents pushed out as property values skyrocketed due to demand from wealthier buyers who moved in, resulting in higher tax bills for all.

Truck Series driver Josh Reaume was suspended indefinitely by NASCAR on Tuesday for violating its social media policy. And according to Reaume, that violation was unintentional. Reaume, who owns a team in the Truck Series, says he posted a picture to Snapchat of a toaster strudel last week. That seems pretty innocuous, right? Well, the icing on that strudel was drawn in the shape of a swastika. And Reaume said he somehow didn’t realize that he had drawn a strudel swastika when he posted the picture to Snapchat.

Until very recently, it would have been hard to imagine anything more iconic of American life than Coca Cola and baseball. Today both remind me of Benito Mussolini’s corporatist – aka, fascist -- game of merging of state and corporate power. The CEOs of these operations should hang their heads in shame and fire their public-relations teams. So should the CEOs of Delta and American Airlines, Black Rock, Cisco, American Express, and American Airlines, who have promoted President Biden’s false assertions that tightening election procedures to bring them back into line -- and in accord with those of civilized Western governments elsewhere -- is racist voter suppression.
