Glenn Greenwald Bound and Robbed at Gunpoint

Original Article

Journalist Glenn Greenwald revealed that he was robbed at gunpoint by a group of five men in a terrifying home invasion last month. Greenwald told the story in an essay that addressed news of another home invasion in Oakland, in which a family was tied up, beaten, threatened with death, and robbed by a group of armed men. He revealed that he faced a similar attack on March 5, at a house on a farm near Rio de Janeiro that his family has been renting during the pandemic. At the time of the invasion, Greenwald was at the farm, which he described as “isolated,”

Serious trauma, hope the kids are OK. Brazil, near Rio, not too surprising but very sad nonetheless. He is a journalist to whom I always pay attention even when, often, I do not agree.

His security guard was useless and obviously, Mr. Greenwald over-relied on someone else to protect him. If I can advise him, I would suggest he move to a city that is not criminal-friendly as Oakland. He also needs serious work on his situational awareness.

There is a link to his original essay in the article where he describes in more detail the home invasion he experienced in Rio de Janeiro. In the essay he said he was relieved the invaders did not shoot his off-duty policeman/security guard because "it is very common in Brazil for criminals to automatically kill police officers." I'm not sure why this is common in Brazil, but it seems the wretched lying media is currently trying to foment hate for the police in the United States. The media hates law and order; they want chaos and division.

FTA, the last sentence, "Police spotted the car — registered to Greenwald’s husband, a member of Congress in Brazil — on security cameras, and soon uncovered the identity of the criminals." Interesting. I didn't know Greenwald was gay. But, he was darn lucky he survived this.

Yeah, I read the Greenwald peace yesterday. I was surprised at all those white supremacist insurrectionists in Oakland doing their usual anti-Asian terrorism against that Asian family. I wonder if the gang that robbed Greenwald in Brazil were Trump supporters. Probably. We just need to defund more police here in the United States of Dominion. That'll keep us safe from all this hate from whiteness.

The "original article" and the article to which it links tell two similar harrowing stories of violence, one in Brazil and one in the USA. These are stories that need to be told. They are reminders of what happens when government fails to perform one of its essential functions -- maintain law and order. I think they suggest something else: The crooks are in charge. The crooks like Biden have convinced swaths of the public to "defund" police and encouraged racial strife. In America, I lay most of the blame at the feet of the Democrat Party and the crooks who run it, along with the go-along-to-get-along lame Republicans like Mitt and Mitch.

The atmosphere is changing fast for President Biden. Sen. Joe Manchin’s (D-W.Va.) opposition to weakening the filibuster has thrown the president’s legislative agenda into flux. The COVID-19 vaccination push has hit serious resistance, meaning Biden could fail to meet a key benchmark for the first time. And the economic picture is mixed, with some weaker-than-expected employment data and new fears about inflation, even as jobs return and businesses reopen. It all marks an abrupt change from Biden’s first months in office, when he pushed through a $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package,

Manchin’s fellow Senate Democrats are being far more conciliatory. After all, the 50-vote Senate majority needs Manchin's vote to do just about anything. So not even its most progressive members seem to want to poke the bear.

Based on everything we know about New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's psyche, it's impossible to imagine him resigning unless he knows he has no way out. The only Democratic figure who could plausibly persuade Cuomo to resign is President Biden. The big picture: Unlike many of his other Democratic critics, Cuomo respects and likes Biden. The two men have had good relations — during the transition, there was even (far-fetched) talk that the governor would be considered as Biden's attorney general.

Twice-failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton weighed in on Republican state legislatures pursuing basic election integrity measures in their respective states, contending that it “shouldn’t be a partisan issue” to reject such efforts. In a Monday social media post, Clinton likened the left’s radical attempt to overhaul U.S. election — stripping states of basic election safeguards such as voter ID — to “preserving America’s democracy.” “Preserving America’s democracy shouldn’t be a partisan issue. But the fact is that Republican-led legislatures have enacted at least 22 news laws this year restricting access to voting,” she claimed alongside a map from the Brennan Center for Justice.
