Opinion: There can be no American
democracy without a free press

There’s a reason we need a free press, despite its faults and foibles: Democracy won’t work without it. The grand experiment in self-governance that is the United States is rooted in trust and confidence we all will work toward the greater good. But the nation’s founders had experience with a king and his expected benevolence — and what could happen when things didn’t work out.

Did you know this is Sunshine Week? A week dedicated to promote open government? I find this sort of opinion rich in self-aggrandizement and irony. Local reporting is no less BS than the national level. Reporters from bottom to top are advocates. Every story, including the weather, has a slant. Today's "press" is infinitely more powerful than the Founders ever imagined in their days of a few thousand pamphlets circulating - and they saw that as a threat. I wish there was a Sunshine Week that stretched every day of the year into perpetuity. Instead we get propaganda 24/7 from 360 degrees of our daily lives. Just count the number of times you are hit with "woke" advertising today, from COVIDS to race...

The problem for the press is that there is more money to be made from lies than from truth. The powerful forces that run the country from DC, Wall Street, and Beijing have coopted the flow of information for "the good of society" and anyone that wants to expose them is crushed economically. The internet has changed retail business and social media has changed the flow of news and information in ways that can be manipulated and used to control the population.

There is no 'free press' today to about a 95% certainty. The Enemedia is totally shot through with dedicated leftists and Communists who are committed to destroying the USA as founded and pushing hard for a communist (they call it socialist, as another lie) dictatorship like Venezuela and China. The corporations which own all the news (less about 5%) intend to do this same destruction, with the idea that One World Government and centralized control by some nebulous 'elite globalists' group (not functionally any different than kings of the old times) will give then endless power and riches. The people at the top do NOT believe in egalitarian, free institutions like the Constitution lays out, and are doing everything they can to destroy the historic America, and replace it with a dictatorship of the rich and powerful.

The 1st Amendment of The Bill of Rights guarantees a free press. The dems don't want the truth reported . It wouldn't be good for business. We all now that.the MSM is the P.R. arm of the dem party, the dems think we haven't caught on.

Reliable studies show that almost all "press" people do not attend a church and do not know anyone who does. Where then do they get any information outside of woke-dom? They don't. And they present their strange opinions to us as if they are factual. I do not listen, I do not watch. The newspaper wen in 1987 and the TV went in 1984. You should do the same.

Once again the Kneepad media lies. The article states that the only profession mentioned in the Constitution was 'free press'. Free press isn't a profession. And the 6th amendment clearly states the right to 'counsel' i.e. attorney. So now the 'free press' is a profession and an attorney isn't a profession. Surprised by the end of the article they didn't declare 'journalist' Saints!

...the issue isn't that "we don't have a free press"... ...the issue is we have a dishonest, partisan, media...that is aligned with ONE political party. ...I believe the MAIN reason that so many otherwise decent, intelligent, Germans supported the Nazis in the 1930's is because they received ALL their "news" from a dishonest, partisan ,media that was in bed with the Nazis. ...they were "told" that Jews were evil /racist/greedy people...( and deserved to be punished t)...and.... the whole World was out to "get Germany" for no good reason.....??........and, like now, so many believed that the media does not lie...!!?? ...what OUR media is now doing to cancel "American Culture " ( because it is evil/racist/greedy ) runs a similar path...brainwash people with the "Big Lie"...and they will eventually believe it

There never was any "American democracy".....words actually have DEFINITIONS. Our government has always been a representative REPUBLIC, never a democracy, and ignorant writers saying it another ten thousand times won't make it true.

For the third time in less than 30 hours, four justices on the state Supreme Court dealt President Donald Trump a setback Friday, saying they wouldn't accept a lawsuit by Trump allies who wanted to let Republican lawmakers instead of voters decide how to cast the state's electoral votes. As with two decisions Thursday, Friday's ruling was 4-3, with conservative Justice Brian Hagedorn joining the court's liberals to rebuff the president as he seeks to take away Democrat Joe Biden's narrow win of the state. "The relief being sought by the petitioners is the most dramatic invocation of judicial power I have ever seen," Hagedorn wrote.

Now, the neighborhood's location within walking distance of the Fiserv Forum and related projects has put its housing in high demand and led to a sharp rise in property taxes. In recent decades, the adjacent Brewers Hill neighborhood experienced gentrification, with longtime residents pushed out as property values skyrocketed due to demand from wealthier buyers who moved in, resulting in higher tax bills for all.

Reaume, who owns a team in the Truck Series, says he posted a picture to Snapchat of a toaster strudel last week. That seems pretty innocuous, right? Well, the icing on that strudel was drawn in the shape of a swastika. And Reaume said he somehow didn’t realize that he had drawn a strudel swastika when he posted the picture to Snapchat.

The U.S. government is awash in debt and red ink — and neither President Donald Trump or his Democratic challenger appear bothered by the status quo, an analyst told Yahoo Finance on Wednesday. Last week, the Treasury released data showing how the COVID-19 pandemic helped push the U.S. federal budget deficit above $3 trillion for the first 11 months of fiscal 2020, a rate more than double the prior full-year record. In previous years, the federal deficit — and the mountain of IOUs to investors it signified — would figure prominently in a presidential campaign.
