The deadly breach of the Capitol's perimeter could delay the gradual reopening of the building's grounds to the public just as lawmakers were eyeing a return to more normal security measures following the Jan. 6 insurrection.
Capitol Police officer William "Billy" Evans, an 18-year veteran of the force, was killed Friday when a man rammed his car into a barrier outside the Senate side of the building. The driver, identified as 25-year-old Noah Green.. (snip) ..the violent mob laid siege two month ago. Lawmakers said the seat of American democracy was meant to be open to the people, even if there was always going to be a threat.

Groups calling for justice for George Floyd Marched in downtown Minneapolis Monday night.
They say they will be protesting during key parts of the trial. On Monday, lawyers in the trial of Derek Chauvin – the former Minneapolis police officer charged in the death of Floyd – made their opening statements.
"We're not asking for justice," Del Shea Perry said. "We're demanding it." (snip) One protester chained herself to the security fence around the Hennepin County Government Center. She said she does not plan to leave until state leaders sit down with the families that are impacted by police violence.

A Minnesota woman is hoping to break barriers and redefine beauty.
"All women need to be celebrated," 26-year-old Mikayla Holmgren says in her audition reel for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
Holmgren is still waiting to hear back from the magazine, but her efforts are already getting national attention.
"Just be yourself. Follow your dreams and you can do it," she said.

BOULDER, Colo. — Multiple people were killed in a shooting at a grocery store in Boulder, Colo., on Monday, the police said, with an officer among the victims.
A suspect was in custody and was injured during the shooting, said Cmdr. Kerry Yamaguchi of the Boulder Police.
The ABC affiliate in Denver, citing multiple law enforcement officials, reported that at least six people were killed in the shooting.

The city of Minneapolis on Friday agreed to pay $27 million to settle a civil lawsuit from George Floyd's family over the Black man's death in police custody, even as jury selection continued in a former officer's murder trial.
The Minneapolis City Council emerged from a closed session to announce the record settlement, which includes $500,000 for the neighborhood where Floyd was arrested. Floyd family attorney Ben Crump called a news conference for 1 p.m. that was to include family members.

Minneapolis city officials convened during a Zoom call Monday morning to go over public safety preparations for the Derek Chauvin trial, which is set to begin next week.
During the meeting, it was announced that the city will be dropping its plan to pay social media influencers for sharing city-approved messages during the trial. (snip) "While I believe in and support the intention of this recommendation, we have seen that the impact has caused harm in our communities. And for that, I am sorry."
City Coordinator Mark Ruff added, "When we make a mistake, we acknowledge that and do better."

Red Wing Chief of Police Roger Pohlman's employment was terminated by the Red Wing City Council Friday night.
According to the letter of termination sent to Chief Pohlman, he was terminated for having "not met the Council's performance expectations." The letter then goes on to list a number of incidences where Pohlman did not meet expectations. (snip) A citizen-led rebuke of the suspension and subsequent termination of Pohlman claimed that the actions taken were under the "guise of 'social justice'," and that the city council's decision was "unfounded, outrageous and politically motivated."

Two fugitives from Rochester were arrested in Mexico and have been charged with an arson indictment.
The U.S. Attorney's Office said 34-year-old Jose Angel Felan, Jr., and 22-year-old Mena Dhaya Yousif were detained by Mexican authorities for immigration violations on Monday. (snip) The indictment alleges that Felan maliciously damaged and destroyed the Goodwill retail store, Gordon Parks High School and 7 Mile Sportswear's store, all located on University Avenue in St. Paul, through arson on May 28. Yousif is then accused of helping Felan avoid law enforcement.
