Tommie East Hall, at the University of St. Thomas, is probably unlike any other student housing you've ever seen.
It's a 'smart building,' with COVID-precautions and a green zone, all rolled into one.
"Their number one goal was the embracement of sustainability," says Eric Engh, Senior Vice President of Ryan Companies. "This will be a great example to see how good can you be. So it'll be fun to watch." (snip) "It's super-exciting," says Kaylen DeBois, a freshman who lives there. "I've always cared about the environment, I've always tried to be as sustainable as possible."

While living on Other People's Money, of course. I bet all that compost in the dorm rooms smells great after about three days, but it probably hides the smell of both the maryjane and the rancid stupidity.

Dumb and expensive, and all the typical 'sustainable' stuff works badly.
Insanity is now celebrated. Inefficiency is the goal, expensive is a feature, and 'doesn't work very well" is OK.

They have the biggest Iguanas I have ever seen.
With out the cruise ships and people flying in they have no economy.
All things needed to survive has to be brought in.
The Rich people do okay but not the poor people.

There are no " smart " buildings, there are only buildings

Gag me! I know a kid going there and I’m sure his dad is really impressed with this concept. I also have a relative that went there. He probably isn’t.

Read first part and ended up just scanning last half of article. Not sure if narration is more naive, or just plain proud stupidity. Trying to claim ideas that people have used for decades, and some longer, as some new brainstorm they cooked up new.
Like Bugs Bunny says, "What a maroon".

This could aptly be named the Propaganda Palace. What a bunch of weasel-wording. When you get into it (I’m sorry I did) you find such blockbuster items as low flow showers and water taps (we all know how much fun low flow showers can be and most of us have figured out or been taught how to turn them back into real showers)… Recycling bins everywhere. And COMPOST BINS!!! The average college freshman will be absolutely orgasmic about this stuff.
The bottom line purpose? To teach the young pups how to live the S for sustainability life.
This is when I thank God for my age. I missed all of this apcray and lived in a life of middle-class abundance… When I was in school, the goal was teaching real subjects. Not Sustainability 101 and How to Live With It.

I forgot to mention
The building construction is so tight, that cell reception doesn't penetrate well.
So they’re told to use WiFi.

They didn't tell us how much grant money ie our tax dollars was involved.
How long before they have roaches and rats from compost bins ? Lastly, call little Johnny read ?

#12, you hit the nail on the head! Can little Johnny read? I doubt it. Yeah, he probably can read Dick and Jane, but that's about as far as his comprehension goes.
If anyone here besides me remembers gathering scrap during WW2. Almost anything was used then, newspapers, scrap metal, even the fat from cooking. We recycled almost everything. And these idiots think they are special for using sustainability!
