Senator Ted Cruz noted that the Democrats’ latest impeachment of Donald Trump even though Mr. Trump has duly departed from the White House is, “like Shakespeare, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.” Long-time NBC journalist Andrea Mitchell purported to correct Senator Cruz. On Twitter she sniped, “No, that’s Faulkner.” But of course, Cruz was right. It’s Shakespeare. Faulkner centuries later wrote a book entitled “The Sound and the Fury” which consciously and famously borrowed Shakespeare’s line, as every high schooler knows (or used to).

Yes, and this is why I have entirely abandoned "TV news", with a very rare look at OANN. I distrust the rest so thoroughly that I won't even try to sort out their lies from some truths that might occasionally leak through.

What an arrogant idiot....she really thought she was one upping Cruz via her vast knowledge (and a supposed degree in Lit. from UPenn). I'll bet she never read the Faulkner either, just knew the title.

Yeah, but since both Shakespeare and Faulkner are DWEM, according to current rules she shouldn't have cited either one. Unless they were black, like Beethoven. Has a Gorilla Glue afrocentrist proven that yet?

When you are a stringy old biddy with bad teeth and too many failed facelifts, who works in the Gotcha Business, doing gotchas are mandatory. The only reason she remembered the words had been used by Faulkner was that they were in big letters on a book jacket.

Andrea is 74. As the photo shows it's time to act your age. Nobody wants to see your shoulders. I've seen mummies that looked better. Amazing how dumb dims are. Carol Braun who was a senator from Illinois who ran for POTUS said the "the government of the people, by the people, for the people" was in the Constitution when most people know it's Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. Donna Brazile once poked fun at Newt Gingrich for fabricating a quote from FDR "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself." When she found out Newt was correct all she said was "apparently FDR did say that." Prissy Chrissie Mathews once said that Sir Walter Scott introduced smoking tobacco into England. He got the Sir Walter right but it was Sir Walter Rayleigh. If you are going to be an intellectual snob first get an intellect.

What a graceless non-apology! So she studied too much American literature and that is her excuse for rudely and ignorantly accusing Ted Cruz. If I remember correctly, studying too much of anything is not an excuse to correct another person falsely and without first checking your facts.

I’m as frustrated as you about vagrants and their enabling local government lefties. These filthy feral humans camp on the sidewalks, poop in the gutters, accost respectable citizens and beg for handouts. And the vagrants are even worse. Several questions must be asked. First, no one seriously contends that people can’t get a job in this wealthy society bespeckled with help-wanted signs. So why exactly are vagrants on the streets? There are two answers.

The Center for Disease Control announced in February that schools could safely reopen, and that it was “critical” that they do so. They said the risk of COVID transmission in schools was minimal — even if teachers were not vaccinated — and the damage to children by remaining closed was maximal. Experience in the schools that have opened bears that out. There have not been cases of widespread transmission of COVID in reopened schools. That’s undoubtedly because children are nearly immune to COVID. And their teachers retire long before they reach the COVID-vulnerable post-65 age group. That CDC announcement that teachers, vaccinated or not, should return to work was two months ago

Which of these large paintings is better? One is by renowned artist Jackson Pollock, and one is by yours truly, The Aspen Beat. I’m not known as an artist – heck, I’m not even known as a writer – but I can still apply paint to canvas, to myself and to everything else in the vicinity. That’s where my similarities with Pollock end. Pollock was born in Cody, Wyoming, got expelled from two high schools, liked Mexican murals, was an alcoholic, and died drunk when he rolled his convertible. The car interior wound up looking like one of his paintings. On an artistic level, Pollock is less admirable.

People of my generation learned to read with Dr. Seuss. Sure, there were some child-like hijinks in the doctor’s prescriptions but to many toddlers the rhyme and rhythm were music to the ears, tonic to the souls and tutors to the unschooled. In that time, millions of children learned to read and Dr. Seuss was awarded numerous prizes.

So why is the vaccination rate in Germany stuck at 4% while the American vaccination rate is now quadruple that? Throughout Europe, it’s much the same story. The vaccination rate is 4% in France, Spain, Sweden and Italy, and 5% in Finland, Greece, Poland and Norway. The “Flynn Effect” is the phenomena identified by intelligence researcher James Flynn. He found that average intelligence quotients, or IQ’s, as measured by standardized tests were steadily increasing through the course of the 20th century. That sounds quite natural because, after all, each generation gets better nurturing. They get better health, improved medical care, more nutritious food and greater schooling. But IQ is supposed to be mainly about nature, not nurture. Nurturing can certainly affect a person’s well-being, but in theory it doesn’t change a person’s IQ much (except of course when the nurturing is so bad that it produces negative neurological effects).

For instance, 60% of Republicans think the ARP, the American Rescue Plan, the most comprehensive progressive piece of legislation we passed in decades, is a good thing. How many Republican Senators voted for it? Zero. Why? It’s because Trump still controls them. They’re still afraid of him.

The words “epic” or “magnificent” are becoming cliched because they’re constantly used as clickbait headlines for things that are anything but “epic” or “magnificent.” That’s a shame because both words apply with their original force to Tucker Carlson’s opening monologue on Monday night. He brought both logic and passion to explaining that the Democrat party’s open borders policy is deliberately intended to import people who will vote for Democrats. In hindsight, what he said is completely obvious but too few people think about illegal immigration in the terms Tucker did. More must if we are to preserve our liberty-oriented, merit-based, constitutional republic.
