An Elgin man convicted of sexually assaulting and murdering a 20-month-old girl in 1997 is being released from prison later this month after serving half of his 48-year sentence. Cayce Williams, 47, pleaded guilty in 2006 to the first-degree murder and criminal sexual assault of Quortney Kley, the daughter of his former girlfriend, in exchange for the prison term.(Snip)
Williams faced the death penalty but reached a plea agreement with the Kane County State’s Attorney’s office. His projected release date is Feb. 25, according to Illinois Department of Corrections records. That’s the same day on which Quortney died 24 years earlier.

The couple each faces charges of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire or bank fraud. Attorneys for former President Donald Trump on Tuesday filed a response to the “incitement of insurrection” impeachment charge he faces, arguing that their client’s January 6 speech did not incite the violence that followed at the Capitol impeachment.
“It is denied that the phrase ‘if you don’t fight like hell you’re not going to have a country anymore’ had anything to do with the action at the Capitol as it was clearly about the need to fight for election security in general,” Trump’s lawyers wrote.
The attorneys further argued that impeachment “requires that a person actually hold office.”
Former President Trump “threatened the constitutional system” by inciting the riot at the Capitol on January 6 that left five people dead, Democrats claimed in a legal brief released on Tuesday.

Two FBI agents are dead and three others are hurt from a shooting during a search warrant execution in Sunrise, Florida, Tuesday morning, the agency said.
