Dolly Parton was forced to turn down the Presidential Medal of Freedom two times due to scheduling conflicts during the coronavirus pandemic. The superstar country singer told TODAY that she was offered the honor twice by former President Donald Trump’s administration but had to turn them down both times.“I couldn’t accept it because my husband was ill and then they asked me again about it and I wouldn’t travel because of the COVID,” Parton told the show in a segment set to air on Tuesday. The “Jolene” singer said that she has also received

Disingenuous how the headline infers she turned it down because she was a never Trumper and not because her husband was ill and she was wary of covid. Would have thought the Post could have a better header.

What has Dolly Parton done for freedom? The Presidential Medal of Freedom is becoming this country's version of the Nobel Peace Prize.

I guess Dolly is still concerned about making money and not angering the woke crowd. What was it that Barack Obama said about at some point you have made enough?

Sorry Dolly, not buying it. Had President Obama offered the honor you would have moved Heaven and earth to get there.

Rush was able to travel to the WH and accept the medal. I think Dolly could have made it, if she wanted to.

Dolly Parton is a most generous patriot and benefactor. She might reach five-feet tall in those wonderful heels she wears, but she is miles taller than you can imagine. Miss Dolly wouldn't call herself a super star, but she is most certainly way beyond that title.

I disagree with #1 and #7. There is more to her not accepting the Presidential Medal of Honor from President Trump. Her turning it down once but twice is a slap in my face as well as everyone that back our president. It was her way of telling Trump to shove it. Sorry Dolly, I have lost all respect for you.

Rush Limbaugh did not turn it down and he is ten times the philanthropist and beloved person that Dolly is. He had to fly to Washington without a suit and with a medical condition that put him in danger. At least she is smart enough to keep her politics to herself.

Well, she didn't get it, then. Sounds like she thought accepting the award was some kind of favor.
That said, her explanation is not offensive, not the way some of them have been. No foul on Dolly for that, I'll still listen to her beautiful music.

None of us knows her personally, so why all the speculative posts?

The medal has been cheapened beyond reason. Just go look at the list of people who've been given it in recent years. Some of the recipients are truly deserving, but others are a joke. The most ridiculous of all are the ones given to actors and entertainers (mostly of the leftist persuasion). It isn't the honor it was when it was first conceived. I actually worked with someone who received it (after I worked with them), and I suspect that a leftist billionaire son-in-law had much to do with them getting it during the Obama administration.

Will she accept this medal from Biden?
My TN niece gave my granddaughter one of the free Dolly books. The paper is quality. The pictures are pretty. The story was useless. No plot. No lesson. No end of the story.

Sorry for the second post. The Presidential Freedom Medal should be given posthumously to Martha Rae. Look up why.

She is certainly deserving of this honor. Her philanthropy in East Tennessee is legendary.

Do any of the naysayers remember when Dolly gave everyone in her hometown $1000 a month after the fires ?
She just sings and not screaming about political sides.
