Google controls what the vast majority of the world finds on the internet.(Snip)Since 2016, according to multiple reports, Google’s algorithm has been increasingly manipulated to bury and elevate specific information, especially politically charged information. This appears to have strong effects on what people believe and therefore how they vote and respond to polls that inform what politicians do with their power. Right now there’s not a really good solution to the problem(Snip)But there is a really good and easy solution to Google controlling what you see when you search,(Snip)Use Brave for your browser on all your screens (phones, tablets, laptops, desktops, etc.).

FTA: “Brave will not only get you away from Google’s Chrome browser that your phone uses if you have an Android (Google) system, it will also get you using the search engine DuckDuckGo instead of Google.” ... “DuckDuckGo is a search engine also explicitly committed to not manipulating results. The more we all use these two services, the better their results get and the more they reflect what unmanipulated searches show people want to actually find. To use DuckDuckGo as your default search engine, all you have to do is install and use Brave, and every time you type a search into the browser bar it automatically uses DuckDuckGo to get your results. If you’ve been using Google for search, you might be surprised at how different the DuckDuckGo results can look.”

I tried DuckDuckGo for a couple of weeks, but I ended up going back to Google to get the results I needed. Yes I would love to get away from Google, but I need to also get results.

How about stop using the word “google” as a verb? And tell your children!
I’ve used DuckDuckGo for years. If on occasion I need to use another, I do. But DuckDuckGo is quite good. Since Firefox made me mad, I am planning to work on Brave. I just hate to change and I usually run parallel for a while.

I haven’t used Google in years . I use Firefox with DuckDuckGo but will give Brave a try. 74 million of us voted for Trump. If most of us dropped Google, Facebook et al it would leave a mark on their bottom line, since our votes apparently don’t count anymore all we can do is vote with our wallets. If we don’t, their monopolies will get even more oppressive.

I use Brave and love it. Changed to them about two years ago.
DuckDuckGo doesn't give as many results as google, but doesn't save how many sheets of toilet tissue I used this morning either. The results I get are usually more what I am looking for then the google preferred results.
I use Firefox on VERY rare occasion, and ONLY use google for googlemaps.

I quit using Google at least a dozen years ago, I think longer than that.
Bing gives beautiful photos and good search results, mostly it's advantage is that it is not Google. DuckDuckGo claims to be more secure, who knows for sure? But also, not Google.
ANYTHING but Google, in all things.

$2, your "results" are skewed and untrustworthy, use Bing.

Agree with #4...stop using "google" as a verb. I pointedly tell my adult children that I "search" and when they say "Just google it," I ask "Do you mean search?"
I'm sure I annoy the heck out of them, but as a parent, you never stop teaching.

I use Advanced System Care to clean my desktop and it used to say "close Chrome" the next time I ran it. I had never opened Chrome. Found out it was running a whole passel of unnecessary Background Processes. Can't get rid of everything Google, but I got rid of these.

Been using ddgo for years on all our devices. Have never found their results lacking. I am sure the more users they get the better it will be. Started using brave a few months ago and am very happy with it. If you click on new private window you have a tor option. I also love the way it prints a web page- much more intuitive than firefox. We are in the process of moving to proton mail from gmail. Just dropped our republican party switching to non defined. Its been a busy month!

First use DuckDuckGo, as so many others have said. I've used it for years and much prefer it over Google because it doesn't return all the "paid Ads" that come up on Google. Time was when you could trust Google to return the most desirable results, but they caved to the almighty dollar and now allow advertisers to insert their stuff on the first several pages of the results, even when they don't really match! I hate that.
Stop using Firefox, Chrome, or IE browsers! I use Opera with DuckDuckGo (of course), but also use the Brave and Vivaldi browsers. If you really want to break free from the traps, use the TOR browser, which is super sleuthy and was developed by the U.S.A to help our spies to send untraceable emails around the world. You can make your IP Address anyplace in the world you'd like AND no one can track your identity.
Another thing I found out about recently is a browser's "fingerprint." Yes, they have developed that capability where you can be known, even though you might not be "logged in" to a particular website OR you return to look at something again. Also be aware that some websites know what you've typed even if you delete it before submitting it. Very sneaky.
There are so many things about the Internet we don't know. I always appreciate sharing information on these threads.

#7, get off of Google maps! It enables them to track you wherever you go, even when your phone of other device is turned off.
