When President Joe Biden announced former South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg as his pick for Transportation Secretary, many scratched their heads. Why would he tap someone who oversaw a small budget, in a small town, in the Midwest for such a roll? That puzzle is finally coming together. It turns out that Biden favors Buttigieg's transportation views, specifically the idea that America should move away from the gas tax and instead opt into a tax based on the number of miles a person travels.

#1, they won't be happy until they can control us.
Fixed that for you. :-)

Tell the condo dwellers to put a green garden on their roof. I have enough land to grow all the food I need, animal and vegetable. Your "locally sourced" restaurants can explain how much they love that until they have to grow it themselves.
Also if I do need to drive someplace my 1952 pickup doesn't have GPS and my local Sheriff (brother) is not about to arrest me. Long live the Republic of Texas.

From cradle to grave and evey moment inbetween. "Land of the Free" will become an oxymoron. And, yes, the dems are morons but they are in control for right now.

So how will the government enforce this? Oh, I know. Everyone will be required to install a wireless GPS device that will track everywhere you go so the Big Brother can tally up your miles.
What could go wrong?

#3 Hubby has a 1968 Chevy truck - might work for him. He travels 40 mi / day round trip to work. Wonder how his boss is going to love paying for the miles hubby drives for work delivering heavy equipment, trees, block, etc. to work sites.

I'll bet the ultimate goal is to have BOTH taxes, gas and mileage.

They stole the election. The pretender is not President.
They counted on all of you who approve of baby-killing.

So what are we up to? Agenda 21 or Agenda 22 or Agenda 30 - get everyone living in one or two bedroom apartments in cities. Get rid of suburbia and rural areas.

It seems to me that we already are taxed by the number of miles driven -- the more miles, the more taxed gas is consumed.

Hi #11. With more efficient gas mileage and, now, electric cars - that the feds have been mandating and pushing - they're losing tax revenue. Charging by the mile will make sure any efficient gas car or electric car owner still has to pay the "gas tax". On top of that, when / if electric cars hit the market big time, electric bills, and the taxes on electricity, will go through the roof.

A few weeks after the election, we had to drive a 3300 mile round trip to help my daughter and son-in-law move to New Mexico. I don’t enjoy being in the car that much but I kept saying to my husband that seeing all the Trump signs, banners and flags kept me going. Rural America is Trump country. This is really going to polarize everything even more.

In case you missed it we now have wonderful self-driving cars. My brother in law owns one. Tracking where you go is easy. Road costs ??? Just tax everybody. They'll be too busy Tweeting to notice.. Sooner or later the deplorables will all be riding busses anyway.

PS Or as Dyslexia Occasionally-Cognizant says ...
Why do I need a self-driving car when I have a driver ...

They will not repeal the fuel tax. They will simply add the mileage tax and many more.

Well first of all I don't believe Biden has the mental wherewithal to pick anybody. Maybe its Obama or Sanders who knows but who ever it is they seem intent on picking people that will do their best to destroy this country.

This might not be such a bad idea. This would allow the electric car owners to pay for highways too. I have a pickup that gets 10 mpg I have to have sometimes to do the job and can't afford a separate car just for certain trips. If they did drop the gas tax, I might actually come out ahead, or at least not as far behind as the Dimocrats want.

Sorry #19, There is absolutely no possibility of gas taxes being reduced. ALL new taxes are "add-ons" --for the public good of course.

This reminds me of when we were in a drought and the City put us on mandatory water restrictions. Then they raised the water and sewer usage rates because of lack of revenue. Then the rains came. Did they lower the rates? A purely rhetorical question.
How often must we suffer through the consequences of government reacting to a (often only perceived) problem without considering the consequences of their solution(s)? Another purely rhetorical question.
This is why a businessman, like Trump, is valuable - critical thinking, financial and ergonomic analysis and evaluation with a logical and an equitable solution. Someone once said we get the government we deserve. Thanks idiots!!

They hate people who don't live in the cities, too interested in freedom, guns, rights and the Constitution. Clearly bad folks.....from Traitor Joe's viewpoint.

This is all we need. It's 50 miles round trip to work six days a week and our grocery trips average about the same. Do they understand that many of us have zero "Public transportation" anywhere? Never mind, of course they do. AND...they will have to require us to have every vehicle monitored so that they get every penny. AND... this will be after gas prices soar. Death by a thousand cuts.
