You probably already know that Trump’s legal team announced that Sidney Powell is not a team member. The brief statement leaves unanswered the most important question: “Why?” Absent solid information, speculation leads us either to “This is the beginning of the end” or “This is all part of the plan” – and I’m leaning to the latter. (snip) If Powell represents the campaign, the government regulates individual donations. If she’s apart from the campaign, things are less constrained. Lin Wood also chimed in, assuring people Powell is still in the game: Sidney Powell @SidneyPowell1 & I are more alike than we are different. We are fighting different legal battles for the same clients

As vote counts continue to be posted, it is clear that Republican hopes and dreams of a huge wave election have been dashed. (snip) But in one state, Florida, Republicans have triumphed in tsunami-like proportions. With 98% of the vote counted, Marco Rubio has a 16.4% landslide lead over Senate challenger Val Demings, and Governor Ron DeSantis has a 19.4% lead, a gigantic increase over his fraction of one percent squeaker victory 4 years ago.
It’s going to take some time to figure out why the rest of the country isn’t behaving like the Sunshine State, but 3 factors suggest themselves.
Ron DeSantis is getting the lion’s share of national attention for his sweeping victory...adding almost 20 points to his margin of victory in 2018, when he barely won the governorship. Among his pillars of support was his strong opposition to COVID shutdowns of businesses and schools and his opposition to vaccine mandates.
But 2 other statewide races on Tuesday featured incumbent candidates who vigorously fought against COVID shutdowns and mandatory vaccines. And in both races the incumbents won victories with even bigger margins than DeSantis.
In Kentucky, with 87% of the vote counted, Rand Paul is winning re-election to the Senate with a 22.8% margin)

The polls all say the same thing: Republicans will reclaim the House and Senate. (snip) most alarming, the political operatives know this. (snip) their political operatives have undoubtedly been told by their moneybags masters: "Well, we'll just have to win, then," to use the words of Bill Clinton (snip) That's why delayed election counts ought to be looked at very, very closely by Republican observers. It’s time, once again, for another climate conference. This will be the 27th desperate effort to save the planet. It doesn’t have to be this way. Even as they claim to oppose censorship, a group of almost 500 people from the literary world (snip) have signed onto a call for Penguin Random House to drop a forthcoming book by Justice Amy Coney Barrett. John Fetterman obviously hoped that by lowering expectations for last night’s debate with Dr. Oz and by having a closed captioning system with 2 70-inch monitors, he could convince Pennsylvania voters that he was healthy enough to discharge the duties of US Senator. But he equally obviously failed.
He opened his remarks with an inappropriate greeting: “Hi. Good night, everybody.” (snip) Fetterman’s performance was bad enough that even the partisan media were forced to acknowledge his poor presentation. (snip) Time Magazine writer Charlotte Alter, who prior to the debate did her utmost to lower expectations for Fetterman, admitted that “he was much much worse than I expected.”
The 2022 midterm elections are two weeks away. (snip) Republicans should not break out the champagne quite yet as the GOP, also known as the “stupid party,” is fully capable of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. (snip) One example is in my state of Colorado where the Republican Senate candidate Joe O’Dea made these remarks on CNN:
“I don’t think Donald Trump should run again,” O’Dea said in an interview Sunday on CNN’s "State of the Union." (snip) Instead, GOP candidates need to ask one simple question that has nothing directly to do with Donald Trump. “Are you better off today than you were four years ago?”

As Republican Adam Laxalt’s lead in the Nevada Senate race dwindles with 93% of the vote counted, his campaign is reportedly “bracing for a loss” and weighing asking for a recount.
Laxalt is ahead of incumbent Democratic Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto by just 800 votes after 23,000 mail-in ballots were tabulated in Clark County on Friday. The results from the mail-in ballots are favoring Cortez Masto at a 2-1 rate. Clark County, home to Las Vegas, reportedly has about 27,000 mail-in ballots left to be counted.
Ben Bergquam was outside the Maricopa County election center and followed a Penske truck leave the center and return to Runbeck. Once at Runbeck, the gate is closed. Every mail-in ballot that is returned in the county is sent to Runbeck first. Runbeck is scanning the Maricopa ballots before they are sent to the Maricopa County Elections Center. CORRECTION*
Control of the Senate still hung in the balance on Friday, forcing Senate Republicans to briefly put aside their intraparty blame game as they go all-in on winning Georgia’s Senate runoff.
The Senate majority could be decided in the coming days if Democrats defend the seats they hold in both Arizona and Nevada, where votes continue to be counted. But if the GOP picks up just one of those seats, Senate control will be determined by a Dec. 6 runoff election in the Peach State.

Nevada was one of Republicans' top targets as they tried to break the Senate's 50-50 split, and Cortez Masto's reelection was a toss-up coming into the election. She was running neck and neck with Laxalt, Nevada's former attorney general who has been endorsed by former President Donald Trump.
Cortez Masto served two terms as Nevada's attorney general before becoming the first Latina ever elected to the U.S. Senate in 2016. She campaigned on women's reproductive rights,

The Biden administration has stopped taking applications for its student debt forgiveness program, citing a Thursday ruling from a federal judge in Texas that declared the program "unlawful."
On Friday, the Department of Education's student debt relief website displayed a message informing borrowers that "student loan debt relief is blocked." It added, "Courts have issued orders blocking our student debt relief program. As a result, at this time, we are not accepting applications. We are seeking to overturn those orders." The Education Department said it will hold the applications for the roughly 26 million people who have already applied for forgiveness.
Senator Rick Scott, chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, on Friday called the 2022 midterm elections a “complete disappointment.”
