You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant. But it appears we've seen Arlo Guthrie tell us that in person for the last time.
In lengthy posts on his Facebook page and website, the 73-year-old folksinger announced Friday he is retiring from performance immediately. He's canceled numerous shows he had planned around the country for the next year and said he won't be booking any more. (snip) "In fact, I hope to be a thorn in the side of a new administration pretty soon," he said in a veiled reference to President Donald Trump.

I didn’t know he was still alive. It wasn’t really that important to me...

I saw him in “Alice’s Restaurant” back in ‘69 or ‘70. That was the only image I had of him until just now. What a shock. Always the antiestablishmentarian.

Sounds like he is admitting the Trump win!

His daddy was famous, though. Guess I'll have a hoot'nanny in his honor. If I get around to it. I'm older than he is, and I have a lot to do.

This on the heels of Jerry Jeff Walker just passing...and didn't John Prine just leave us ol' Folkies earlier this year? Sad, but inevitable. I dunno, I truly enjoyed their music. Didn't listen to their politiks.

#3 gets it, I think Arlo has made some comments in the past worrying about the threat to our two party system. And yeah, his dad was big but he was also a dupe, a useful idiot and a tool of commie manipulators.

Fortunate to have seen his final concert last March in Pelham Tennessee. Not always in tune with his political views but always with his music and humor. Listen to “Alice” every Thanksgiving.

Hadn't thought of him for decades until we moved to Utah and, 7 years ago he appeared at a concert in Salt Lake City.
The TV News made a big deal of how much of his song, Alice's Restaurant, had changed lyrics.
Political correctness had painted him into a corner way back then.
By now, all the "cool" woke kids would hate him for littering!
He has no lyrics left that they would not get him cancelled by them.
So, his expiration date is past.

From Wikipedia:
Guthrie identified as a registered Republican in 2008. He endorsed Texas Congressman Ron Paul for the 2008 Republican Party nomination, and said, "I love this guy. Dr. Paul is the only candidate I know of who would have signed the Constitution of the United States had he been there.

I was roped into seeing him at the University of Delaware back in 1975. He had one or two decent songs, but not much else. It was a long evening.

He can tour the old folk homes in CA and never see the light of day as far as I'm concerned. Just another no talent wanna be singer living on a parent's laurels.

He is still breathing? I did not know that. I know he is an entirely ignorant and selfish Leftist, and now he wants to be an ankle biter. Big Whoop.

Who knew he was touring? I don't bowl, so I guess I missed his "concerts". Will 'the City of New Orleans' dedicate a trailer park?
