You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant. But it appears we've seen Arlo Guthrie tell us that in person for the last time. In lengthy posts on his Facebook page and website, the 73-year-old folksinger announced Friday he is retiring from performance immediately. He's canceled numerous shows he had planned around the country for the next year and said he won't be booking any more. (snip) "In fact, I hope to be a thorn in the side of a new administration pretty soon," he said in a veiled reference to President Donald Trump.

I saw him in “Alice’s Restaurant” back in ‘69 or ‘70. That was the only image I had of him until just now. What a shock. Always the antiestablishmentarian.

His daddy was famous, though. Guess I'll have a hoot'nanny in his honor. If I get around to it. I'm older than he is, and I have a lot to do.

This on the heels of Jerry Jeff Walker just passing...and didn't John Prine just leave us ol' Folkies earlier this year? Sad, but inevitable. I dunno, I truly enjoyed their music. Didn't listen to their politiks.

#3 gets it, I think Arlo has made some comments in the past worrying about the threat to our two party system. And yeah, his dad was big but he was also a dupe, a useful idiot and a tool of commie manipulators.

Fortunate to have seen his final concert last March in Pelham Tennessee. Not always in tune with his political views but always with his music and humor. Listen to “Alice” every Thanksgiving.

Hadn't thought of him for decades until we moved to Utah and, 7 years ago he appeared at a concert in Salt Lake City. The TV News made a big deal of how much of his song, Alice's Restaurant, had changed lyrics. Political correctness had painted him into a corner way back then. By now, all the "cool" woke kids would hate him for littering! He has no lyrics left that they would not get him cancelled by them. So, his expiration date is past.

From Wikipedia: Guthrie identified as a registered Republican in 2008. He endorsed Texas Congressman Ron Paul for the 2008 Republican Party nomination, and said, "I love this guy. Dr. Paul is the only candidate I know of who would have signed the Constitution of the United States had he been there.

Attorney Ron Meuser told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS the number of Minneapolis police officers who have filed for disability claims since this spring's civil unrest and rioting has now reached 175, with 100 other officers considering similar moves. "The 100 additional officers are doing their best to hang in there and not leave because they want to serve their community," Meuser said. "But if there is more rioting in the near future, I would not be surprised to see the number of officers filing for disability to reach between 250 and 300 officers."

President Donald Trump is facing a backlash for urging voters in North Carolina to vote by mail and then try to vote again in person to test the mail-in ballot system in the Nov. 3 election. Trump was asked by a television reporter during his trip Wednesday to Wilmington, North Carolina, if he had confidence in the vote-by-mail system. “They will vote and then they are going to have to check their vote by going to the poll and voting that way because if it tabulates then they won’t be able to do that," Trump told WECT. "So, let them send it in and let them go vote.

GTV, a Chinese dissident billionaire’s Taiwan-based media outlet, is releasing sordid, depressing videos and photographs of a person purported to be Hunter Biden engaging in sex and seemingly smoking crack. That’s not the big news. The big news is that the same outlet claims that (a) Communist China owns Joe Biden; (b) Joe Biden sold out CIA assets in China who were then executed or imprisoned; and (c) GTV has millions of images showing other presumably influential people in comprising positions. If all this is true, we may see a complete realignment in Western politics. The Hunter Biden videos and images are at GTV’s video site.

If the election were held today, Joe Biden would probably win. But there are strong signs that the race is much, much closer than you’d think from the news coverage. Donald Trump has a real shot at being reelected. First, the president is actually more popular now than on the day he was elected. Yes, that’s right. His personal favorability rating around election day in 2016 was 37.5%. Now, it is 43.2%. There are, in fact, hundreds of thousands of Americans (if not millions) who have grown fonder of Trump. During the Democratic primaries earlier this year, voters who cast early ballots for Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar in Super Tuesday states found out the hard way that early voting can be dangerous.
