Cheryl Gould, the former Vice President of NBC News, has publicly criticized the network for agreeing to host Republican President Donald Trump's town hall after Trump refused to attend a virtual debate against his Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden. "I am dismayed—more like disgusted—by NBC's decision to air Trump's 'I won't play by the rules so let me make my own rules' town hall opposite Biden's," Gould wrote in a public Facebook post. Comments:

The great fear is Trump will get a ratings bonanza, while Biden's Town Hall will rank just above reruns of 'Maude'.

MIAMI — NBC has been rocked by an internal feud over its decision to host a town hall with Donald Trump at the same time as ABC’s Thursday event with Joe Biden, a scheduling move that critics contend is a gift to the president after he refused to participate in a debate originally scheduled for Thursday. The internal conflict extends to the highest levels of NBCUniversal, where MSNBC head Phil Griffin strongly disagreed with NBC News President Noah Oppenheim’s decision to unilaterally move forward with the town hall during that time slot, according to three high-ranking sources at the TV

In the buttoned-down field of survey research, Warren Mitofsky is remembered as something of a legend. In the 1960s, he developed the exit poll for CBS News, a technique in which voters are interviewed as they leave polling places. Mitofsky, who died in 2006, also helped initiate random-digit dialing by telephone, a randomized sampling method that revolutionized survey-taking and was polling’s gold standard for years. (Snip) Poll-inspired cockiness certainly helps explain the deep shock that accompanied Donald Trump’s election four years ago. The cockiest poll-related moment of the 2016 campaign centered around a vow by Samuel Wang, the neuroscientist who

LONDON — Back in March, the mood in the United Kingdom was one of terrified simplicity. Having watched hospitals and morgues become overwhelmed in northern Italy, almost everyone supported the drastic, nationwide lockdown imposed by Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Now — after a summer in which Johnson's government has been accused of incompetence, negligence and hypocrisy — efforts to contain a second spike are mired in chaos. What experts call "pandemic fatigue" is beginning to set in across the continent. But few places display greater levels of it than Britain, where Johnson's critics accuse him of burning much of the goodwill he enjoyed

If Barrett has a similar effect on turnout — mobilizing more Democrats than Republicans — that’s even math that Trump can do, and it isn’t good for him. Trump needs every vote he can get.

Sen. Kamala Harris is the very embodiment of today’s progressives. She proved this again and again on the debate stage with Vice President Mike Pence, most clearly in her continual willingness to twist or rewrite history to make a point. This time she simply made up a story about Abraham Lincoln’s decision to appoint Salmon P. Chase to the U.S. Supreme Court as the election of 1864 approached. Chief Justice Roger Taney, author of the notorious Dred Scott decision and an implacable foe of the president, died in early October.
