Austin, Texas The University of Texas' long-awaited report on “The Eyes of Texas” has found that the school song has “no racist intent," but the school president said athletes and band members will not be required to sing or participate when the song is played at games and campus events. The 58-page report, released Tuesday, was commissioned last year by school President Jay Hartzell after a group of Texas athletes, most notably football players, demanded the school drop the song as part of racial injustice protests. The issue erupted into a tempest of fan outrage when football players chose to leave the field instead of

This reminds me of an environmental lawsuit against an electric utility about 40 years ago. The environmental group maintained that even if community residents maintained an unfounded fear of power lines, that should be sufficient to require the utility to reroute them. Fortunately, the court disagreed, but the same kind of thinking persists on the left.

The only Racist thing about this entire event were the actions of the Texas Athletes. They had to conjure up a lot of racist thoughts that only existed in their minds. So basically the football team needs to be disbanded for racism.

I personally took a class at the University of Texas under Professor Emeritus Joe Franz who had several Graduate students write thesis on the history of the Institution. I have a copy of one that gives the date, time, place and singer for the first performance of the Eyes Of Texas. It was a student talent show and the performers were not dressed in black face. Some are actually arguing that the tune "I've Been Working on the Railroad" was performed at minstrel shows. So, because the tune was occasionally performed by performers in black face, on subsequent performance of a variation is racist. Uhm, sorry. No.

This is how not to handle students, or rather, children. The University of Texas had severely diminished itself. Their Board or Regents should promptly fire President Jay Hartzell and clarify their position on the privilege of playing football at their school. Play by our rules, respect our school, or play for someone else.

This is an easy one! The football coach should bench or remove from the team any player who doesn't stand on the field for the ritual singing of "Eyes of Texas", and all band members who refuse to play it should be removed from the band. These actions should take place immediately - no fuss, no studies, no argument. Tough love is needed. We are dealing with children here, plus a significant contingent of marxist professors of the type who proliferate on most campuses. In either case, you can't argue with immature, irrational minds.

As cargo ships congested at U.S. ports, creating an unprecedented supply-chain crisis, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg was on paid leave to spend time with his husband, Chasten, and their two newborn babies. After weeks of people questioning Buttigieg’s whereabouts as crisis after crisis mounted, Politico’s West Wing Playbook confirmed on Thursday that the transportation secretary was “lying low.” “They didn’t previously announce it, but Buttigieg’s office told West Wing Playbook that the secretary has actually been on paid leave since mid-August to spend time with his husband, Chasten, and their two newborn babies,” Playbook reported.

If regular democracy isn’t doing so well, maybe it’s time to fall back on “Irish Democracy.” That’s what Yale political scientist James Scott calls the passive resistance of a society that doesn’t like what its rulers are doing to it. In his book “Two Cheers for Anarchy,” he writes, “One need not have an actual conspiracy to achieve the practical effects of a conspiracy. More regimes have been brought, piecemeal, to their knees by what was once called ‘Irish Democracy,’ the silent, dogged resistance, withdrawal and truculence of millions of ordinary people, than by revolutionary vanguards or rioting mobs.”

If Joe Biden had been asked to create a scenario where he was 100 percent guaranteed to lose his re-election bid, the supply-chain crisis would top the list. Even though it’s still nearly three years to Election Day, a ruined Christmas is the kind of catastrophe that the American people will never forget — or forgive. It may not be entirely Joe Biden’s fault. This is, after all, a global economy, and what happens in many other nations impacts the U.S. in different ways. But Biden’s nameplate is on the door to the room at the White House that says “Boss.” He will be blamed because that’s the way

Washington — Millions of retirees on Social Security will get a 5.9% boost in benefits for 2022. The biggest cost-of-living adjustment in 39 years follows a burst in inflation as the economy struggles to shake off the drag of the coronavirus pandemic. The COLA, as it’s commonly called, amounts to $92 a month for the average retired worker, according to estimates released Wednesday by the Social Security Administration. That marks an abrupt break from a long lull in inflation that saw cost-of-living adjustments averaging just 1.65% a year over the last 10 years.

The latest inflation reading shows that prices rose by 5.4 percent on an annualized basis in September as supply chain bottlenecks, worker shortages and high demand kept prices rising, according to data released Wednesday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The inflation rate rose a seasonally adjusted 0.4 percent in September from August, according to the latest Consumer Price Index. That is well below the 0.9 percent seen in June but not enough to point to slowing inflation. Increases in food and shelter accounted for more than half of the index’s increase, with food rising 0.9 percent. Gasoline rose 3.9 percent and new vehicles rose by 1.3 percent.
