Marks & Spencer has apologised after it was accused of "covert racism" over its bra colours. Kusi Kimani, 29, from East Sussex, was shocked when she discovered a brown bra on the retailer's website was called "tobacco". The lighter colours of the £12 Marks & Spencer Collection padded bras are described as "cinnamon" and "fudge". Ms Kimani complained about the bra for her skin tone carrying negative connotations, while more positive words were used for lighter colours. Yet two months on from her initial complaint, the bra is still being sold in a "tobacco" colour on the Marks & Spencer

Once this issue is settled, all the world’s problems can be checked off as “solved.”

Complainers will complain, rioters will riot, liars will lie, false accusers will accuse, thieves will steal, looters will loot, rapists will rape, police critics will criticize, .... what else is new in Blue-State Land??
Generally, these people have not been the ones who have built America.

Going through life with your eye toward everything as being racist must be a sad way to live.

So they used “ cinnamon” , “ fudge” , and” tobacco” which many people enjoy. How about “ mud”, “ garbage disposal drainage”, and “feces” as alternatives?

FTA: "It's hurtful to me and my friends. If a young girl who is already uncomfortable with the colour of her skin (sees it) she will be feeling even more alienated.
"Each week that website is showing that racism is another week a young girl may come across it and feel bad for the rest of her life."
Oh, please. Any young girl who is permanently traumatized by the name of a color of a bra has bigger problems than seeing covert racism here.

Oh, good grief! Fashion has long talked of Tobacco Brown, a brown with a bronze or yellowish cast. Usually used to describe shoes or outerwear. The irony is that these bras were intended for various shades of black skin. Worn under a garment that is not entirely opaque, they would disappear, unlike a white or pink bra against dark skin.

I'd say this is one smart lady. She not only got her name in the paper but there are 4 different pictures and poses of her in 4 different outfits. I'm wondering what she is auditioning for.

A good indication of just how ignorant this woman is is that tobacco never reminded me one bit of black people, but one of her suggestions, chocolate does, and I'm sure I'm far from the only one with this opinion.

I like tobacco. Never smoked, but I love the look and smell of fine cigars and pipes.

If you spend your time looking at bras that don't even belong to you and complain about the names they are called just so you could cry out RACISM you need therapy. Tobacco smells wonderful (do not smoke), cinnamond does amazing things for apple pie (I do eat pie) and chocolate, well we all know about chocolate (However, I do not like dark chocolate - so is that racist?). I love watching the reruns of Criminal Minds and especially chuckle about the relationship between Penelope and Morgan. Their banter is quite amusing. But I assume that is racist too. Come on man, get a life and leave the rest of us alone.

Even the color of a bra sets people off. Covert racism. Forget the apology. The company should tell her to shop somewhere else.

"Fudge" is a lighter color than "Tobacco"? Weird.
They ought to rename the "Tobacco" one "Kusinsanity" and send her a box of 'em.

Quite a stretch to find 'covert racism'. Designers have all kinds of odd names for black and brown which could be investigated for racism.
