Enjoy it while you can. The frozen ball of ice won’t return to the inner solar system for 6,800 years. Eager sky watchers are turning to the heavens as Comet NEOWISE, one of the brightest comets in a generation, starts climbing ever higher among the evening stars.

Comments:

This is pretty amazing, and can be easily seen by the naked eye. Visible now, but best dates seem to be the 22nd and 23rd of July. It’s a big universe out there, and there remains a lot to be learned.

I never click on NYT. There are always better sources for any information. Personally, I prefer Sky and Telescope. I used to get the magazine years ago. It will be getting higher in the evening sky for the next few days. Bring binoculars, or just good eyes. https://tinyurl.com/y9un97ld

Bring binoculars! My friend and I saw NEOWISE last night. He spent 3/4 hour setting up his telescope, and was excited when he finally got the comet centered. I sat In a lawn and scanned the sky with medium-sized high-quality binos, and found it easily with the help of an iPhone app. Then we switched instruments, and I realized he could only see the nucleus, while he gasped in surprise at the long fan-shaped tail! He was a bit chagrined at the experience delivered by my $250 binoculars compared to his $1000 telescope! Later, the tables turned when we switched to viewing Saturn! His telescope clearly showed the rings in some detail, while my binos showed a fuzzy dot that seemed to have a bulge on each side! So I always recommend beginner astronomers buy a good pair of binoculars to start with. I have a rather large telescope too, but you don't need it to enjoy this comet!

This means it’s time for all Antifa cult members to lace up their sneakers and drink the koolaide. BLM might as well join in, there won’t be another spaceship like this for 6800 years.

The stock market is rising as big business rebounds from state-ordered stoppage of nonessential activity, while small businesses drop like flies, the “Mad Money” host said.

Chicago's Mayor Lori Lightfoot hit out at White House press secretary Kaleigh McEnany Thursday calling her a 'Karen' for saying she's a 'derelict mayor'. McEnany was answering reporter questions during a press briefing earlier Thursday when she made several sharp comments about the mayor and accused her of 'doing a very poor job at securing her streets'. (Snip) The mayor responded on Twitter shortly afterward by sharing a screen grab of Bennett's tweet and adding, 'Hey, Karen. Watch your mouth'. The Democratic Mayor used the term Karen as the now common label used to refer to a demanding, middle-aged white woman

Former National Security Advisor Susan Rice, who "unmasked" officials in the Trump campaign during the 2016 election, said Tuesday that President Trump is wrong when he accuses the Obama administration of spying on his campaign in 2016. "Absolutely no, it did not happen. That is false. That is another lie designed to deflect from the president's own very bizarre relationship with Russia; to distract from the much validated reality that Russia interfered in the 2016 election to benefit Donald Trump," Rice said during a discussion with Washington Post Live.

Los Angeles County, the nation’s second-largest school district, announced this week that students will not be returning for in-person classes this fall and must instead continue to participate in the failed distance-learning experiment it initiated after the onset of COVID-19. This decision was made not by the parents or the schools but by the teachers union, which has opposed all attempts to reopen the county’s schools. United Teachers Los Angeles, which represents more than 35,000 teachers in the area, argued at first that the health of its members and the students they teach was the primary concern. How, they asked, would the schools be cleaned regularly

Berkeley, California has approved a plan that prohibits police officers from conducting traffics stops. The plan, proposed by the mayor and approved in a virtual city council meeting early Wednesday morning, is just one part of a major "defund the police" overhaul planned by the city, Fox News reported. The move to separate traffic enforcement from police work is believed to be the first of its kind in the U.S, according to the report. Instead of having trained officers conducting traffic stops, the new policy will send in unarmed civilian city workers to deal with traffic offenders.

n April, author and political commentator Michael Walsh predicted that Joe Biden would choose Michelle Obama as his running mate within a month or so: “[It] would be an unstoppable ticket, and potentially give the Obamas eight more years in the White House.” Walsh quotes Dick Harpootlian, South Carolina’s former Democratic Party Chair: “If she engages, God help Donald Trump, because she’s tough as nails and enormously popular.” Mrs. Obama, Walsh wrote, “is the perfect vice presidential candidate, one who will . . . push progressive causes, and check all the social justice boxes” while sparking a massive African American vote, a feat beyond Biden’s wildest dreams.

Joe Biden’s $2 trillion climate change plan, released this week, was described by one liberal outlet as “the Green New Deal, minus the crazy.” We beg to differ. Just look at Biden’s plan to eliminate the internal combustion engines. Biden says that on his first day in office, he will develop “rigorous new fuel economy standards aimed at ensuring 100% of new sales for light- and medium-duty vehicles will be zero emissions.” Biden hasn’t said exactly when he wants new cars to be all-electric,

An article published in the Los Angeles Times Tuesday said that the “Star-Spangled Banner” should be replaced by Bill Withers’ “Lean on Me.” LA Times contributor Jody Rosen cited “viral posts on social media” which said the anthem is racist, then argued it is aesthetically a bad song in the article. Rosen concluded saying the message of “Lean on Me” can be a foundation for a “decent” society. “If the point of a national anthem is to provide a mnemonic, a reminder in music and words of the ideas and values that this place is supposed to stand for, you could do worse than ‘Lean on Me,’” Rosen wrote.

Back-to-school is looking a little different for many teachers nationwide this year, as they grapple with returning to their classrooms amid a pandemic. Added to their list of concerns: Death. "How horrible is it that one of the things on the list to do is to have a plan for students and teachers dying?" Denise Bradford, a teacher in Orange County, California's Saddleback Valley Unified School District, told CNN. Her comment comes after the Orange County Board of Education voted this week to return children to schools without face masks or social distancing, despite a surge in coronavirus cases and

The National Football League celebrated its 100th anniversary last year. This should be a time of self-congratulation for the brutal sport, which has no similar counterpart outside the United States. The NFL's megaprofits dwarf those of other professional sports in the U.S. The Super Bowl, not the World Series, is America's national sports event. The league has survived all sorts of crises in the past. It was one of the first professional sports to integrate its teams, doing so in the 1920s. But the integration unfortunately ceased, and the NFL didn't reintegrate until the mid-'40s, becoming one of the last sports leagues to embrace fully a racially-blind meritocracy.

Three Spirit Airlines employees were battered in a wild melee at a South Florida airport over a delayed flight, according to a report. The brawl captured on video broke out Tuesday night at a gate for a Philadelphia-bound flight from Fort Lauderdale International Airport, news station WPLG reported. The employees suffered minor injuries when three passengers “became combative following a delayed flight,” the airline said. In the clip, several women were seen hurling items at the workers before going behind the counter and attacking at least one of the employees.
