lasdair MacIntyre, from After Virtue: But protest is now almost entirely that negative phenomenon which characteristically occurs as a reaction to the alleged invasion of someone’s rights in the name of someone else’s utility. The self-assertive shrillness of protest arises because the facts of incommensurability ensure that protesters can never win an argument; the indignant selfrighteousness of protest arises because the facts of incommensurability ensure equally that the protesters can never lose an argument either.

Comments:

This is happening in the U.K. What we are experiencing is a world-wide socialist movement. They will bully, shame and berate until they have vanquished from the public square any dissenting opinions, no matter how rationally expressed. This is dangerous.

This is universal in the western world. This demonstrates why all the gun talk is so ludicrous. You've given up every other right you had without a whimper. Who cares when they take your machined steel collection? The time to get vocal and express your view of normal is way overdue, people. You're giving your childrens' country away to these Marxists without a fight.

I'm starting to think that by November the emotive Left may have gone so far that Trump will have to declare martial law in many large, Democrat controlled areas and postpone the election. As this article very clearly points out, there is no winning arguments with them, because there is no common ground. If the Democrats get back in complete power, we will all, every one of us, be in predicaments similar to the radio guy in the article, with our jobs and lives in jeopardy unless we kowtow to the Left's nonsense. If you can't convince your opponents by discussion and logical arguments, it eventually comes down to force. The Marxists already know this.

This UK caller demonstrstes the complete lack of insight, introspection in the black community. They immediately resort to racism charges and never look at their actions, communities and culture and ask - why? And think, maybe is it us? When blacks are responsible for the majority of crime a reasonable black would realize -that is why I am profiled. Both sides of this issue are at fault but only one side is expected to change - no, now it is submit.

I want to add that all of this rioting and looting is not only harming the blacks in those communities but people's perspective overall. Blacks will now be looked at with more fear. I feel sorry for the good people who will have to bear unwarranted suspicion.

Walker Percy, Love In The Ruins: Now in these dread latter days of the old violent beloved U.S.A. and of the Christ-forgetting Christ-haunted death-dealing Western world I came to myself in a grove of young pines and the question came to me: has it happened at last? Two more hours should tell the story. One way or the other. Either I am right and a catastrophe will occur, or it won’t and I’m crazy. In either case the outlook is not so good.

Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden struck a unifying tone with mourners during his virtual remarks at George Floyd's funeral in Houston on Tuesday as Floyd's death sparks calls for racial equality and police reform across the country. We can't turn away. We must not turn away," Biden said in a video address from his home in Delaware to the Fountain of Praise church in Houston. “We cannot leave this moment thinking we can once again turn away from racism that stings at our very soul, from systemic abuse that still plagues American life," he continued.

As I have watched Confederate monuments being removed by state and local governments, and sometimes by the forceful will of the American people, the fact that 10 U.S. Army installations are named for Confederate officers has weighed on me. That number includes the Army’s largest base, one very special to many in uniform: Fort Bragg, in North Carolina.

Sometimes big political developments arrive in the country like Sandburg’s fog, on little cat feet, silent and unnoticed until they envelop the nation. The emergence of Donald Trump four years ago is an example. Though a loud and clamorous candidate, he seemed to many like a kind of political clown destined for defeat. Establishment politicians believed almost to a person that the “blue wall” of Democratic electoral dominance would hold against this guy. The Midwest would stay solid, and Hillary Clinton would win the presidency.

I’ve been thinking that the US is in a May 1968 moment, but that’s probably too optimistic. A reader who is a prominent Washingtonian (he identified himself, and I verified it; I’m not using his name to protect him) wrote this morning to say that he and a number of people he know are leaving the city for good in the wake of this past week’s violence. He writes, and I quote with his permission: I’m out.

NEW YORK   — A fourth day of protests against police brutality kept New York City on edge Sunday, as thousands of people marched and many protesters and officers tried to keep the peace after days of unrest that left police cars burned and hundreds of people under arrest. Demonstrators paraded through multiple neighborhoods, chanting, kneeling in the street, and falling silent for a minute in front of the neon-adorned NYPD station in Times Square in honor of people killed by police.     Corrections *

Will George W. Bush endorse Joe Biden? Congressional Republicans can’t even stand up to rebuke President Trump for falsely accusing a cable news host of murder — despite pleas to stop from the family of the woman, who died of natural causes back in 2001. But imagine if former President Bush, as Trump’s most recent Republican predecessor, backed a Democrat. Bush’s voice has the singular power to reach moderate Republicans and Republican-leaning independent voters, freeing them to walk away from the Party of Trump.

We never feared the police. All of a sudden, now I do fear the police. The young blacks fear the police,” the South Carolina Democrat told CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday.“Why? Because we have built-in a system that’s responding, once again, to Brown v. While speaking Sunday morning with Fox News host Chris Wallace, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson was repeatedly peppered with questions that were typical of an anti-Trump administration, anti-conservative anchor. For instance, Wallace brought up the fatal police shooting of a black suspect in Atlanta. But why would he bring that up with someone who works for HUD, not the Department of Justice? Nevertheless, Wallace wondered whether the shooting was justified. “Was it appropriate to use deadly force against someone whose original offense was that he sleep asleep at the drive-through lane at a Wendy’s?” he asked. Carson replied that he’s not sure and made it clear

But in our rush to condemn an aggressive use of force and pursue justice for George Floyd, we have ignored crucial information which is necessary in judging the conduct of the officers.(Snip)There are six crucial pieces of information — six facts — that have been largely omitted from discussion on the Chauvin’s conduct. Taken together, they likely exonerate the officer of a murder charge. Rather than indicating illegal and excessive force, they instead show an officer who rigidly followed the procedures deemed

Biden. “Overall, a slim majority (51%) of likely voters thought, regardless of their political support, that President Trump would win reelection over Democratic nominee Joe Biden (43%), while 6% thought someone else would win the 2020 Presidential Election,” reports John Zogby in a new poll of 1,007 likely voters conducted June 1-2. Three cities, all supremely liberal, represent an American descent into anarchy against which no one is standing. After New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said he wanted to slash the police budget, the New York City Council is going about cutting $1 billion from that budget, about 16%. That will inevitably cause a reduction of police presence around the city and, with equal inevitability, result in an increase in crime. In Minneapolis, where George Floyd was killed in police custody on May 25, the city council plans to disband its police force entirely. On Friday, the city council voted to replace the police with a “community-led public safety system.”
