Ross Douthat’s column today centers on the decadence that has befallen the American system of government. Excerpts:
It might surprise contemporary Americans that for most of our history, what we call “culture war” debates — arguments about rights, social justice, the moral organization of society — were often settled through democratic deliberation, rather than the kind of ruling the Supreme Court just delivered on gay and transgender civil rights. Congress debated and passed laws. State legislatures did the same. Constitutional amendments were proposed, passed, ratified — and when necessary, repealed.

This kind of article is probably why "conservative" thought leaders fell out of favor. They whine about days gone buy yet try to act like it "everybody's" fault. A patriotic President is disrespected even though he has done more for the "Conservative" agenda than anyone in many decades.
The reason the court's are running with the ball is because liberals found they could not win in the legislature. There were too many people to influence and you had to win elections to get the right people in place. Plus every couple years there was a new election you had to win. The courts might take a while to get the right person in place but once there, they are there for life. So you influence the law schools, a fertile ground, to think that judges should step beyond their role of interpreting law and cross into making law, the laws liberals want. When a dispute is brought into court, the court will resolve it to their satisfaction, even if law doesn't support their solution. "Fair" outcomes became more important than law. Beyond the fact that making law is beyond the job of the courts, declaring outcomes is an impossible task and dangerous. America is about equal opportunity, not equal results. To declare a result should be THUS tries to adjudicate the petitioners entire life and it's result, which is impossible. Now the courts are attempting to judge the lifetime of a country to yield fairness. This is insanity and legal dictatorship without the people's approval which is an anathema to our Constitution.
By the time Conservatives, who revere law, realized what was happening it was already well established. Now they are clawing back judicial positions and the liberals are screaming about it because they know it could take decades to rebuild their control and maybe even impossible since we know their plans and methods now. The courts are reaching a balance point, about half and half. In Trump's second term, the courts will tilt solidly Conservative.

It's not about ideology, which is used as a tool, a wedge, but $$$. The masses can be turned on a dime with the right persuasion. That's been proven now with the COVIDS terror and the short order legitimization of BLM. Conservatives are generally slow to react, and believe good sense and logic presented by facts will carry the day, and people will come around. No, that doesn't work. And then they wonder why things are happening as they are.
When your heroes are clay-footed, when politics is rooted in $$$ and not national interest, when the public can be fooled time after time...here we are. And Americans have long ago shown they are willing to trade a little liberty for security...a chorus of Kumbaya.

If you have to pay for demonstrators and use violence you are not going to win elections...ANTIFA and BLM are weak organizations and only flourishing in socialist hell-holes...Minneapolis, NYC,Seattle, Chicago, etc....Trump has to play the long game..1.No Tiananmen Squares. 2.Infiltrate and arrest ringleaders. 3. Win the election...the rot of these organizations will ultimately be their undoing

Dreher is pessimistic about the future and, though I disagree with his opinion of the president, I do agree that what is in store for us if Biden wins is terrifying. Dreher predicts we will see a social credit system that will punish anyone that does not toe the party line by making it impossible too buy, sell, work, live freely. They will do it in the name of ridding the nation of "white supremacy." I believe there is scant difference between how the Democrats are using terror to control people and how it was used by Stalin and by Hitler.
