Acting spy chief Richard Grenell's reign as a prodigious declassifier is set to end with the full Senate poised to vote on the nomination of Rep. John Ratcliffe. The vote, set for noon on Thursday, appears to be happening sooner than previously expected. The Washington Post reported Tuesday morning that congressional aides believed a vote would likely take place after Memorial Day. But the Associated Press reported Wednesday that Democrats are allowing the process to be completed more expeditiously without procedural hurdles, even as they voice opposition to Ratcliffe's nomination.

Re OP, if Senate approves Ratcliffe as DNI, he’ll be DNI. President Trump will find a good slot for Grenell. Can’t waste a good man. (I believe that he is still officially ambassador to Germany so he will continue to be employed…)
This worked out better than expected, I’ll bet. Dems folding like cheap umbrellas… Grenell scared them to smithereens...

Now make Grenell a place holder for another important position until you get it filled. It looks like a winning formula.

Would Ratcliffe be less inclined to declassify exculpatory evidence??

I love it when a plan comes together. The first time Ratcliffe was nominated, some squishy Republicans got in his way. This time Trump brought in Grenell to bring down holy hell on the Deep State, so Ratcliffe at least has to be less destructive ... right? Let's rush Ratcliffe through before Grenell tells the public all the dirty secrets. Thing is, I expect Ratcliffe to continue were Grenell left off, so Grenell can go back to Germany to keep an eye on the Five Eyes cohorts in Europe. Grenell makes an excellent Rover to bring in for a specific task where he doesn't give a damn what the media says. Grenell is bulletproof to the Dims because ... well, you know.

We know with certainty that nice guy Ratcliffe will immediately stop the declassifications. Obamagate will cease to exist at that point. Why on earth would Trump put in another nice guy when Grenell is doing such an awesome job?
For Trump being such a pitbull, he really isn’t very good at strategy, losing the talent of such an awesome proponent at this point. Grenell has done more than anyone, except for maybe Jim Jordan and Devin Nunes, his only other REAL defenders. Pathetic.

I believe Senator Burr (NC) was one of those squishy Republicans who said he couldn't support Ratcliffe the first time.

Antennae up! Let's see whether this "declassification spree" continues. Or, perhaps more work by the UNIPARTY to help PDT out. They all come "highly recommended", with sterling credentials and 24 karat reputations. Personnel has largely been PDT's short suit.

I agree with some above. Fire Wray and put Grenell in as Acting until HE can be confirmed as the Director! He's a man who could clean out that Rat's nest! He will also find all the missing documents Wray can't find!

Remember the Senate didn't want Ratcliffe in the position because he is a great supporter of the President and the people. Trump put in Grenell as acting who proceeded just as they feared Ratcliffe would, now making him a more palatable appointee. The Dims think because Ratcliffe was a Congressional member he will be more "in tune" with the regular program. Once again the Deep State is deluding themselves and took Trump's bait. This is brilliant strategy. I think we will see President Trump use Grenell like a one-person Seal Team taking it to the enemy with surprise attacks.
MAGA-KAG: Trust Trump.

Grenell scared them all right. Scared them into actually doing their job as the perfect solution to protect the swamp. Sneaky trick by Lady Twaddlebottom and Turtle. The FBI would be a perfect spot for Grenell.

The president is the ultimate authority on declassification; Grenell didn't do what he did without the president's authority and approval. I hope President Trump keeps the declassification pipeline open, with minimal redactions, via Ratcliffe.

#7, you have given the solution on what to do with Mittens--
He can be the leader of the "Squishy Party"!
We can hope and dream that if re-elected that Mr. Trump will work on outting all the squisy RINOs as well

Oh, don't worry. Ratcliffe will be just as likely to do it as Grennell. No relief for the guilty.
And move over Grennell to FBI Director (Acting) slot right after the election.
I just found out that Chris Wray was Andrew Weissmann's supervisor in a previous job when they destroyed Enron and Arthur Anderson unfairly.... IMO, that proves Wray is as guilt as Weissmann, and that is as damning a thing as can be said about a corrupt, criminal Deep State thug. Sad that Trump was misinformed into hiring Wray to replace Comey. Not much change, clearly.

If true, they are wasting their effort. Supposedly, all this declassification was well underway before Grenell took over the position. He may have smoothed the way a bit for a quick release but was going to happen anyway. I have significant doubt that Ratcliffe would slam on the brakes for these things underway. Durham will eventually make this stuff public anyway and hopefully much more. If anything, a Senate approved DNI has more standing than a temp.

Whose to say that Radcliffe when he follows on Grenell won’t simply keep declassifying and releasing?

Very simple- - perfectly legal - - solution. Keep Rick as DNI - - and make Ratcliffe FBI DIrector. Ooops! But where does that leave Fey Wray?
