Quarantine Protesters Are No
Heroes of Civil Disobedience

We all deserve protection from the coronavirus, which is now our nation’s second-leading cause of death. To get it, we must cooperate and make sacrifices. Our culture has a wonderful way of taking controversial or partisan figures and weaving them into the broader story of America. When Abraham Lincoln was assassinated, for example, his secretary of war, Edwin Stanton, purportedly said, “Now he belongs to the ages,” which was a way of saying that the battles Lincoln fought and the leadership he provided would stay with us and shape the nation going forward.

Heroes? No. But they are good Americans who put freedom above all else, in contrast to the cosmopolitan kollectivists like Jonah, who think we should all sacrifice everything in case it might be useful to someone on the east coast. Its just another hit piece against Americans who love America and what it stands for. Such a disappointment. To think I used to enjoy reading his columns, before 2016. He should hire in to CNN or MSNBC. He'd fit right in.

FTA: "...coronavirus , which is now our nation's second leading cause of death..." I know it is just happenstance, but it's interesting to contrast that statement with the facts in the following article to show two very different mindsets. And, the way some people mix coronavirus with everything and anything as a cause of death, I can't imagine anyone ever being able to sort out that mess.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the US at over 600000 per year. Lucianne’s son starts his screed with a non-fact. Chi-Com-19 had a good spurt for three months. Anybody with the virus who happens to die is a “Covid-19” death. Now, I will read the article.

Locking down entire states is a completely different from quarantining people with an infection. When in the history of this country has this ever been done before?. Yes, people deserve to be protected from disease but not at the expense of other people's constitutional rights. That's the reason we the taxpayers pay for the CDC and other health officials. They failed. I have no problem with voluntary measures. There was noting voluntary about the lockdown. Jonah you're wrong, The protesters are heroes and the country needs more of them.

Now, I have read it. Someone makes an inapt reference to Rosa Parks, so Jonah must get up on his high-horse and defend her. Civil liberties are still Civil Liberties even if it isn’t Jim Crow that is being protested. To Jonah, protestors are stupid if their cause is not lofty enough for him. Jonah should seek treatment for his Covfefe-45 TDS infection.

Wow, we haven't even finshed tallying up the 2019 causes f death and Jonah already has accurate figures for 2020? Sorry Jonah. COVID hasn't even approached the suicide rate of death yet. Much less cancer, COPD, accidents Dementia and strokes yet. A nice 'we need to be surveil fascist peons for the greater good' article. Except this country wasn't founded on the greater good, but on individual life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The Constitution is the rules of the country, but not the reason for the country. Its about time we remember there is a difference.

Sorry, Mr. Goldberg. Comparing what Trump says today to what he said last week or month is not evidence of inconsistency when the information about covid-19 is in constant flux. Further, when you state that, "Banning Michiganders from purchasing gardening equipment and car seats for babies strikes me as heavy-handed", I have serious doubts about your credibility. Only 'heavy handed'? Coming from someone whose book on fascism I consider brilliant, I'd have to agree with other respondents here - you can no longer see the forest for the trees when it comes to Trump.

So, if government leaders pick one group to oppress that’s bad, but if they oppress the citizenry en masse, that’s good and isn’t even oppression but is merely enforcing public safety. Mr. Goldberg seems to have a confidence in ultimate power afforded to government leaders which the nation’s founders lacked.

The United States IS NOT New York. I'm in Michigan, the virus is mainly in the Detroit area. Our County has between 100-125 cases. Some Counties in Michigan have none or under a dozen, WHY should they be treated like NY or even Detroit for that matter. I think people's livelihood is more important than "maybe" catching the Wuhaun virus and surviving it. The for the most part, the media only report deaths, not survival. Its their way of unnecessarily scaring the crap out of the people to Control Them! Wake up!

For a guy who has written extensively on fascism, it's surprising he can't see some first steps toward it. It is not the government's place to order people to stay inside, or to shut down businesses. The government can set out guidelines to follow, and then people who are at risk can choose to follow those guidelines. The one-size-fits-all approach is a social-justice concept, and enforcement by police is fascistic. It really bothers me to see police gleefully arresting people for being outside on a beach, or paddle-boarding off the shore, or playing ball with their family in a park. After all, a right that you have to ask permission to use is not a right at all.

There is no way the virus is the second leading cause of death. Cancer historically is #2, with nearly 600,000 deaths a year. There is no way the virus deaths will begin to approach that number. Right now, there are 54,000 deaths and the number is declining each day. The final number for 2020 will likely be under 100,000.

"We all deserve protection from the coronavirus," This is a fairly dangerous, and apparently growing concept. No one has a "right" to a life free from risk. There is much literature to the effect that a life free from risk is no life at all. And government does not have the power to give you a risk free life, but they will use that concept to give you a liberty free life.

Add Jonah to the list of those who still have employment and a steady income, and thus have the luxury of focusing on their health rather than on how they're going to pay the mortgage and put food on their children's table. Too many of them, and you can also count Jonah with them, have lost all compassion and empathy for those who aren't as fortunate as they are. I am eternally grateful that I don't have to worry about finances, but I have total sympathy for those who must and fully support their efforts to agitate the system back into some semblance of normalcy. As for Jonah, I suggest that Miss Lucianne put her son over her knee and instill some compassion into him.

The so-called death toll from coronavirus is already being debunked State by State. The numbers were deliberately skewed to bring in more federal dollars. Our civil liberties weren’t just temporarily suspended. They were gleefully taken by Governors who were enthralled with their own power. Alas Jonah has gulped down the koolaid. Your Trump derangement syndrome has completely clouded your view on everything else in society. For a person who wrote eloquently about fascism I am dumbfounded as to your rejection of what is happening right now to the American people. Government is not supposed to prevent us from operating our businesses and therefore preventing us from pursuing life and liberty. Narrative, meet thy match: Actuality. On Wednesday, Robert Johnson appeared to indicate he’ll be sticking with Donald Trump when November comes around. The city of Madison collected 10,813 absentee ballots from local residents at this weekend’s Democracy in the Park event, which state Republicans tried to halt. Despite a threat of legal action from the state GOP if the event were to take place, the Madison City Clerk’s Office forged ahead, arguing Republicans had no legal support for allegations the event constituted an “illegal collection of ballots” that “falls outside lawful categories.”

White House Coronavirus Task Force advisers are openly disagreeing with each other, sending mixed messages about the pandemic. Both Dr. Anthony Fauci, the government’s top infectious disease expert, and Dr. Robert Redfield, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in recent days, have criticized Dr. Scott Atlas, a conservative neuroradiologist from Stanford who has become the top adviser to President Trump on the coronavirus. The Chinese government invited then-astronaut Mark Kelly, now an Arizona Democratic Senate candidate, to an all-expenses-paid retreat at a countryside resort in 2003. He left China five days later not only with a future spouse, former Rep. Gabby Giffords (D., Ariz.), but also with lucrative regime business contacts. Kelly attended the annual Young Leaders Forum, a five-day junket cohosted by the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs, which is "under the leadership of the Communist Party of China." The conference allowed Kelly an opportunity to mingle with high-profile Communist Party officials and rising stars in Chinese society. Attendees included Cui Tiankai, now Chinese ambassador to the United States;   Correction*

As we reported two days ago, Joe Biden completely made no sense when he was trying to explain the Wuhan coronavirus relief bill. It was really bad and it explains why they’re afraid to have him deliver an address to Congress or do any kind of a real solo press conference, because at this point they have to be afraid this is all going to fall apart if he does anything live and this all becomes too obvious to the American people. But there’s only so long that they can hold this off. And it’s getting worse, as video today revealed. Biden was holding an event to announce the nomination

Nancy Pelosi’s top priority is to turn America into a one-party nation ruled by Democrats. Her bill HR 1 trashes the U.S. Constitution in an attempt to rig the system and make it virtually impossible to elect a Republican president or Congress again. It’s a power grab. The bill eviscerates state voting laws and forces all the states to conform to a set of rules that includes automatic voter registration. Anyone who goes to a DMV or applies for food stamps, Medicaid or other social services, or attends a public college will be automatically enrolled to vote. Noncitizens are obligated to identify themselves and opt out,

I’m probably second to none in my dislike for Meghan Markle. There’s something unattractive about a mature woman marrying into the British Royal family with one of the world’s most expensive weddings, hanging out with the Queen, living in insane luxury…and then whining non-stop about the horror of her life. There’s something even less appealing when that woman accuses the Royal family of race hatred. And the problem is that, when it comes to that left-wing diva, Meghan Markle, it’s hard to believe most of what she says. After weeks of hype, CBS finally televised Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah.
