A global pandemic of the novel coronavirus has now killed more than 185,000 people worldwide. Over 2.6 million people across the globe have been diagnosed with COVID-19, the disease caused by the new respiratory virus, according to data compiled by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. The actual numbers are believed to be much higher due to testing shortages, many unreported cases and suspicions that some governments are hiding the scope of their nations' outbreaks.

Comments:

This study shows that it is likely that 2.7 Million in New York State have antibodies for COVID-19. Compare that to the confirmed cases now 262K. Confirmed cases appear to be 1/10 of the total cases. That means NY's mortality rate of 7.7% is really .77% assuming the study is valid.

As written the percentages positive from NYC, Westchester etc. do not add up to 100% LOL!.

Andrew Cuomo, brother of Fredo, all of a sudden is capable of interpreting this raw data? I think not. He's not very bright to start with but he sure can talk forever.

Assuming the results are accurate, could they suggest that — except for certain identifiable populations — this disease may actually be more benign than the flu? Statistically, while most of the positive 14% of the state did not know they had contacted COVID, nearly everyone who has the flu knows they have flu.

They may have thought it was just the flu. These results are similar to the California studies making it even less obvious why we would kill a country over it. Trump must be in a box having to go along with Fauci and the Scarf Queen to look like he is following the experts but he may feel the overkill. I hope he keeps his criticism of governors who open their states early to a token.

5... The term 'pandemic' has nothing to do with mortality. It has everything to do with spread.

The fraction of one percent of the infected world population does not come close to matching in scale the red ink that has been splashed all over the world's daily doom maps practically covering every continent except Antarctica. The less than one percent of deaths from the first minute fraction is also highly exaggerated. How about some truth for a change?

I am tired of doctors, data, and tests. Go treat sick people, and get off the tv. If doctors spent their time with the sick, rather than the politicians, I think we would be better off.

Weren't we told just a couple of days ago that the latest candidate for an antibody test still had problems distinguishing between covid-19 and other varieties of coronavirus (e.g. the common cold)?

And how specific are these tests? How do they respond to other corona viruses like various strains of the common cold?

13.9% in mid April, double that by mid May (28%), double again by mid June (56%), Herd immunity by 4th of July! The pandemic is winding down :-)

I haven’t been able to shake this comment from my mind since she made it a couple weeks ago. Maybe it’s because Kamala Harris was my confident early prediction for the Democratic presidential nomination, maybe it’s because I still struggle to understand how someone can be so bad at running a national campaign as she has proven to be, or maybe it’s because I wonder why few people have noticed or drawn attention to this. Whatever it is, her interview with Axios on HBO continues to echo in my head:

Earlier this week, Fox News’ Brit Hume suggested it’s time we consider lockdown policy as possibly being “a colossal public policy calamity.” Speaking to Shannon Bream on Fox airwaves Tuesday night, Hume discussed the disastrous side effects of stay-at-home orders adopted by nearly every state in the union, highlighting the irreparable harm done to the folks’ livelihood and savings, and the social toll the isolation has caused, particularly for children, who are at extremely low risk for novel coronavirus. To boot, emphasized Hume, it’s unclear how effective lockdown policies have actually been, especially when compared to other, more sustainable mitigation strategies.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Friday that New York will report a $13.3 billion shortfall in revenue compared with its original forecast — representing a 14% decline in the state’s projected receipts. The Empire State, which has been hit harder by the coronavirus pandemic than anywhere else in the U.S., currently forecasts $61 billion in total lost revenue between fiscal years 2021 and 2024, Cuomo said. “What you’re going to see is what we expected,” Cuomo said at a press conference, referring to the state’s assessment of the virus’ economic impact. The projections offer a glimpse into the devastating financial toll

We all know the old saying that tough times bring out both the best in people and the worst in people. And right now, the coronavirus pandemic has brought tough times to literally billions of us all around the world. For a vivid illustration of both the best and worst response to the pandemic, you have to look no further than the rash of small but disturbing protests taking place intermittently around the U.S. against shelter-in-place orders that are saving lives. We’ve witnessed the sad spectacle of irate protesters equating “liberty” with shortsighted and selfish urges to deny the harsh reality that the vast majority of Americans are doing their

Most politicians in the running to join a presidential ticket as the VP candidate are inclined to stay silent, change the subject, or simply express their humility at the thought of being considered. Stacey Abrams isn't most politicians. "I would be an excellent running mate," Abrams said in a recent interview with Elle magazine, citing her "strong history of executive and management experience," as well as her "25 years in independent study of foreign policy." As soon as it became clear that former vice president Joe Biden would be the Democratic Party's nominee for president, Abrams embarked on a media tour to make the case for why Stacey Abrams,

On Fox News Friday night, Michigan State Representative Karen Whitsett told Tucker Carlson that text messages she's been receiving from Governor Whitmer have not been pleasant ever since the Democratic state lawmaker credited President Trump for her personal recovery from the Wuhan coronavirus. The lawmaker now faces a censure from her Democratic colleagues for crediting the president for her recovery. Tucker Carlson asked Whitsett if the governor ever called the representative to simply say, "I'm so glad you didn't die?" "Actually, it was not as pleasant as that," Rep. Whitsett began, "and the text messages that we have had since then have not been as pleasant as well."

We’re all homeschoolers now. Schools have closed for more than 55 million students nationwide, and at least 34 states have shuttered schools for the rest of the academic year. Just in time, our media and academic elites are coming out swinging against homeschooling. The Washington Post and Salon have raised questions about the practice lately. More alarming, Harvard Magazine this week unleashed a thoroughly unfounded attack on homeschooling, drawing on the work of Harvard University law professor Elizabeth Bartholet.

The novel coronavirus pandemic will define the modern era in the same way World War II shaped an earlier generation, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates says in a 11-page memo outlining his ideas on how best to tackle the disease. “This is like a world war, except in this case, we’re all on the same side,” he writes. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has committed $250 million to the battle and Gates has been speaking up regularly to influence its direction — something that has sometimes placed him at odds with President Donald Trump and made him a target of right-wing pundits and conspiracy theorists. Gates’ memo barely mentions politics,
