I’ve long wondered why so many family and friends fall into this category. We grew up in the same homes, went to the same grade schools as kids, had the same parents, attended (as kids) the same churches. To engage in the hate that they do, Progressives must often run counter to the values held by their parents -- and they know it. It takes a lot to abandon the values of one’s parents and one’s culture. Why do it?
Is it a logically and carefully considered and weighed repudiation of the values long honored by their parents and ancestors?

I, for one, couldn’t care less about “fitting in.” Of course, when one is in enemy territory, one must be discreet. I had my car vandalized simply for what my bumper sticker said. No more bumper stickers.

Pure ignorance. They prattle on about the evils of "Bullying", but want Mob Rule. The rest is just some Star Trek fantasy of creating the Federation.

There are three kinds of people in this world:
1)The largest by far the vast majority are followers, sheepople, those aptly described in the article seeking a visceral tribal sense of belonging in the cool kids club.
2) Then there are independent thinkers, they tend to have a rebellious streak and are willing to be bold in expressing contrarian points of view, challenging the status quo, cool kids be damned. They will seek to counter balance but don't have an appetite to control others, they are glad to try to inspire, teach and lead, but coercion is not in their DNA. When they believe in something it is through their own thinking and willingness to be challenged, not because of social pressure to go with the crowd.
3) Then there is the third, the dangerous people the narcissistic ego driven control freaks . They see their fellow man as livestock to be used to serve their purpose. They send those they control to war to fight others of their own ilk and properly identify the #2's as their worst enemy.
Our country was founded largely by #2's to protect us from the #3's. Sure many #1's went along with the founding values and principles because they were following, it was cool at the time. But they have been easily pried away by the new cool spread by the spectacularly successful communist propaganda.

An easy question, with an easy answer.
If there is a God Who created and sustains us, then we must listen to Him.
If there is no God, then we are the result of chance. To be the result of chance has a probability so small that it cannot be computed. Molecular compounds tend to be unstable. Take a look at water. The three-atom molecule typically splits apart into a positive ion and a negative ion. These ions attack other molecules. This happens billions of times a second. For atoms to bond together to make complex molecules, such as ribosomes, and the various amino acids, is unlikely, because of those pesky water fragments.
On the other hand, a God Who created us also speaks to us, and He has done so. He must be listened to and obeyed, and many would simply rather go their own way.
It is very simple.

Yes, we hold onto our values, and try to avoid confrontations. Add to the bumper stickers...not putting political signs on front yards. Not a good idea. Also, the the leftist crowd are the ones who post their garbage on Facebook! they think they are cool.

"You've got to be taught to hate and fear; you've got to be taught from year to year; It's got to be drummed in your dear little ear; you've got to be carefully taught." Richard Rodgers, South Pacific
This is the Communist agenda and the Democrats have been going by it for years.

You have to be demented to be a democrat today. They have nothing good to offer. Nothing at all.

It is a spiritual issue. When one is not a truth seeker and has no discernment, they cannot see the truth right in front of them. The Bible refers to it as "strong delusion".
II Thessalonians 2:9-12 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them STRONG DELUSION, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
Parents should not worry that they did not teach their child about love of county, patriotism and democracy....we have somehow neglected passing our faith down to this generation, and now they cannot see truth.

No. It runs much deeper. It is a love of sin and a rejection of authority over them because as lovers of self they have made themselves their own 'god' and rule maker. That rejection of authority starts with God and flows down to their parents' Judeo/Christian morals, teachers, traditional marriage and trickles down to law enforcement , bosses at work, government in general and discipline of any kind. All the feminist, homosexual, antifa and every other activism lately is rooted in this same source.

Behold a mystery: Rush Limbaugh never wanted to fit in. He is the quintessential self-made man with talent on loan from God. Donald Trump never wanted nor expected to ''fit in.'' Yet, he is the King Cyrus of the modern age. The mystery is why would anyone want to fit in? Each has a God-given uniqueness. There is only one YOU.

"Progressives must often run counter to the values held by their parents -- and they know it."
Wow, can I ever relate to this article. Thanks to strict, hard-working, middle class Catholic parents, I felt pressured to do well in school, serve four years in a wartime military, complete school afterwards and choose an honorable, interesting and well-paying career. I would not dare admit to my parents that I was living with a girl without benefit of marriage and would not succumb to divorce as a fix all when I inevitably chose the wrong girl to marry. Now I realize that the effort of fixing a difficult relationship was better than choosing another wrong girl. Somewhere during my young life their principles became ingrained in my own thinking and I will be forever grateful that their guidance did not allow me to become a progressive. It would have been a fate worse than death.

The basis of mindless involvement in causes is "vanity". Watch young people defending their support of harebrained causes. They are often full of thoughtless passion. They radiate personal glory apparently from being part of a vanguard changing society while, at the same time, expounding nonsense that exposes the shallowness of their so-called thinking. They have a fantasy of becoming intellectual giants involved in shaping the world. One might say they are so detached from reality in their vain attempt to elevate themselves that they become the oracles of emptiness. They gather in groups to confirm their own greatness.
Vanity-driven prudes have surfaced before in America. However, since the 1960’s, it has become a cottage industry.
To overcome vanity one needs to humble oneself by recognizing one’s immense limitations. Solving life problems means rejecting slogan-based ideology. Spouting ideological slogans is debasing in spite of the fact it flatters one’s vanity. Young people need to learn self-importance free of vanity. Then America would regain its adult stature.
America was the world’s one adult nation. Hopefully, it will be again.

The OP asks, why so many Oikophobes on the left? Good question! I offer this: given (as I assert) that oikophobia is the taproot of the modern left, such that the further left you are the more oikophobic you are (or vice-versa), the OP's question resolves to, what is that taproot rooted in? What is the metaphorical soil? My answer: that soil is composed of ignorance, narcissism (with attendant arrogance and self-assurance), and guilt.

I was never in the cool clique in HS, never did much socially in college beyond a few friends. Engineering students spend a hell of a lot more time studying than they do partying, or they won't be engineering students for long.
Not even slightly interested in "fitting in" to any particular social groups. I have a number of good friends who I met at shooting competitions, and building and flying light and homebuilt aircraft. And a few friends from my political activism days.
I'm pretty immune to caring even a little bit what other people think about me other than my wife, and a very few, carefully selected friends.
I guess that's why I still hold to my father's beliefs, love this country, and am a Christian.
