NEW ORLEANS — Checkpoints to screen vehicles have been set up on all roads entering Texas from Louisiana as of Sunday, April 5, according to Louisiana State Police. These checkpoints are designed to prevent people from the state of Louisiana from spreading the coronavirus in Texas. According to the executive order from Gov. Greg Abbott, “Every person who enters the State of Texas through roadways from Louisiana … shall be subject to mandatory self-quarantine…” The order does not apply to people traveling for military service, emergency response, healthcare workers coming to assist in the state or other critical functions.

Nice, maybe throw in some land mines and barbed wire? Then they can get started on a wall. And TX has a Republican governor

Well, I as going to head back to Texas from my place here in FL. I guess I'll be here a while longer. Last time I check the map, the closest case of Covid19 was 80 miles away, and there were only 8 cases within 100 miles. The forgotten coast forgot to get the virus.

People will not sit still. Today in my neighborhood in NW Harris County, where there are 311 virus cases, I saw a pickup towing an RV loaded with bicycles and canoes. That dude and his family are going on vacation somewhere that may only have a few virus cases. They are making a personal decision for them and their family, as US citizens should be able to do.

An old person here with some solutions:
1. Announce USA opens back up for business in 10 days. If you want to work and still have a job, WORK!
2. If you are fearful or high risk, continue to stay home. Your CHOICE!
3. Make the “Fish Tank Cleaner” medicine easily available ... it is showing great promise as a PREVENTATIVE and a “cure” for those without serious contributing medical issues.
4. If you are a democrat, continue to wring your hands if you must, but SHUT UP! Your 15 minutes are up!

What the heck? Them Louisianans will just sneak in through Arkansas. Or some way out in the woods back road. They can't guard them all. That's what I'd be doing.

Looks like Texas learned a lesson after Katrina.

Checkpoints are only at high density roads. Then they give you a form that says you will self quarantine for 14 days, and you have to disclose where you will be. The Dept of Public Safety says they will make random checks to see if those people are where they said they would be, and if not, will be fined, or jailed. So they are not turning anyone back into Louisiana. This looks useless to me. Also saw Laredo requiring people to wear masks, or they will be arrested. The authorities have gotten much too large for their pants, and it is awful to see.

Idiotic, and I voted for Abbott.
So we'll have line ups on I-10 from the border to Lake Charles. Trucks and all. Think I'll stock up on gas and groceries. Think again Greg.

Texans were happy to help New Orleans with all their self-inflicted Katrina victims. But many of them came demanding all sorts of "freebies" and showing no appreciation -- just lots of complaining. Almost everywhere they settled, crime rates went up and so did unemployment rates.
I have spent a lot of time in Louisiana. Other than the New Orleans area, you can't find much nicer or hard working people in the country -- of all races and denominations. Sadly, New Orleans tends to be the exception to that rule.
And I thought New Orleans was going to solve all their problems (high crime, gang violence, terrible schools, etc, etc) by tearing down those "evil" Confederate statues...

Texas, The Great State of Texas. Freedom loving Texas. Of course since Texans love to blame California for the troubles in Texas, then of course this is really Gavin's fault. Texas could name their checkpoints after Charlie. The checkpoint from the old East West Berlin days.

Agree #10. If the next step is establishing internal checkpoints then Abbott and the legislature are held hostage by their own agencies. Just like that county in Maine, "show us your papers."

I don't criticize Texas for looking out for their citizens. Why would Typhoid Mary (or the Typhoid Smiths) be welcomed? I guess they are above sheltering in place.

They're gonna have a problem with Texarkana. Simply walking across the main street (? State Line Ave ?) you walk from NO to TX or TX to NO.

Amen, #6. Houston is still feeling the effects of the increased crime Katrina victims brought with them. Nevertheless, we opened all to them. In our town north of Dallas, we opened a former department store building and housed many for quite some time. They received various homeless services sponsored by the town and church also. We were eating in a restaurant on the square during that time, and along came a black kid with a hip-hop "cool daddy" stride that I had never before seen. I'd bet our farm that he was part of the bunch that came up north from Houston. Stuck out like sore thumbs.

I was in Texas a few weeks ago visiting a friend when they declared their state of emergency. Figured something like this might happen and bugged out. It seemed better to be stuck at home if any sticking was to be done.

I remember when big-hearted Texas let Katrina victims relocate in Amarillo. When it became most of them seemed to be professional beggars or criminals, Texas did nothing about it. I remember county and local lW enforcement was furious at the way it was all handled.
