Covid-19 and the Democratic presidential primaries, the two biggest stories of the year so far, reflect a common theme: the death of the progressive left. Looking back, historians may well see late 2019 and very early 2020 as a kind of high-water mark for American progressivism. (Snip) The notion of very open international borders will seem strange and indeed intolerable, as most of the world’s wealthy nations have been looking for ways to keep foreigners out. The new restrictions on movement will not be repealed so quickly or so thoroughly, and for a while the U.S. may restrict movement across

When faced with a real crisis, the unbearable lightness of being of the Left becomes an unaffordable absurdity. Of course for the Leftist author, this is a tragedy. Since most of us weren't too concerned about Climate Change to begin with, it's not that big a deal.

Oh, no! The Chinese virus has focused American's attention away from Climate Change!! The horrors!!! The author presents us with an insight into the "progressive" mind. He rightly recognizes that the current health situation shows Trump was correct about China, international trade policies and open borders. All the Dims have are dreams that the people will forget common sense leadership and re-embrace the slave socialism of Obamanation, which they won't. The author know this, but can't quite fully accept it and is holding out for climate change to be the great leveler. Too funny.
I disagree with #1. The Uniparty is grasping at straws, and they only have paper ones left. Between shampeachment and the Chinese virus the power has shifted in President Trump's favor. I think that conservatives, patriots, Trumpers...whatever you want to call ourselves...make a mistake when we view Trump's emergency actions through the lens of the old paradigm, like the progs are doing. The real news about what he is doing is on the White House website, and Sundance at Conservative Treehouse explains and connects the dots. There is a real shift being made from Wall Street to Main Street. Trump is turning the federal government into an aid for the private sector to respond quickly as only they can. There are new relationships being forged. Just because Trump may use some tools that the Left used for weakening America, does not mean those same tools in Trump's hands could be used for good.

I’m loathe to admit it but leftists aren’t going anywhere after this. Regardless of the cognitive dissonance of reality vs. their world view, the vast majority of them refuse to learn from it or will draw the wrong conclusions from it. They’ll be back. Just like cockroaches.

And the question is "What would Joe Biden do about it?" He'd drag that SOB who brought it here out behind the school gym and cough on him.

Yeah some guy on here used to post "America has outgrown leftists and leftism" after 9/11. I remember this because I remember when I realized it most certainly had not, sometime around election night 2008.

Joseph Biden being referred to as being a relative centrist in the Democrat Party today means that he is just another old time corrupt career liberal Democrat politician who has been giving minorities the shaft for many decades while riding on their coattails only up to each election. Remember it was only a short time ago during the Democrat debates that Biden was lifting his hand in support of progressive left Democrat policies like open borders, sanctuary cities and the rest that is simply hurting and killing a lot of innocent Americans by allowing foreign illegal alien criminals a free run throughout America.

The new challenge as I now see it - the President can no longer tout the booming economy and low unemployment rate as his hallmarks. The virus (was it intentionally released??) together with Putin's clever oil & gas game aimed at crashing our economy will complicate, to an extent, the President's chances of re-election. Very high unemployment by November is very likely.
The President must now convince the American public that blame for the current biological and economic crisis lies with China, Russia, prior US Congresses, and past Presidents and not him. He's done everything he can to keep us going. Consistent leadership every day and every night. The stress must be off the scale though.
God willing, he will have more time post-election to straighten this out. Would rather have him handle it than any dim especially Plugs.

#11, I think the timing of this is going to backfire on the progressive socialists/communists. I think the Chicom Virus should start fading within the next 2-3 weeks, and by Summer and Autumn the U.S. economy will be in good if not great shape and trending upwards, and this immense overreaction will be identified as such. Trump will be seen as correct on secure borders, bringing manufacturing back to the US (especially for pharmaceuticals), decreasing dependence on the ChiComs and everyone else, and making America first.
