We’ve shut down major parts of our economy, ranging from stores and restaurants to concert venues and bars. Schools have closed. Transportation is at a near standstill. Now, some even want to close the stock market. The question is, why?
Of course, the answer to that is the threat of COVID-19, also known as the Wuhan Flu. It’s a nasty bug. But in truth, we don’t know how nasty it will be here.
So far, there’s little in the way of macro-data for our outbreak. Problems in Iran and Italy, where the coronavirus has wreaked havoc, have been repeatedly highlighted by the media, but they aren’t parallels for the U.S.

Life changed drastically after 9/11 and took away many things.
This virus will too, I’m afraid.

Flatten the curve they say.
At what cost I say.
It is looking like 19th century style blood-letting to me.
And Fauci is beginning to look like Colin Powell. Bright man. Bad advice.
How bout this: if you are in THE FOLLOWING AT RISK GROUPS stay home.
The rest of us have got work to do!
We just banned worship, exercise, performances, education, sports and socializing. In the United States.

The Wuhan Flu will come and go, as these things do. But the Left has now learned the power to be wielded by the Emergency Declaration. From the smallest village, to the largest City, Politicians have now learned they can control us whenever they wish, regardless of the lack of the Constitutional right to do so.
When they declare death by firearms a National Emergency, the gun seizures will begin. Or Global Warming Declarations banning the use of Petroleum products.
Now is the time to stand up to overreaches by our Government before they use this or another crisis as a springboard to creating their Socialist Paradise.

Duh! Patriot Act anyone? A few Islamic dudes crash airplanes into the WTC and now all blonde haired/blue eyed Lutherans in Minnesota must take their shoes off and have a full body scan or, even better, a DEEP cavity search at the whim of a minimum wage TSA worker. I don't fly anymore! EVER! In 1987 I flew 300,000 miles... Now, I'm just not willing to arrive 2 hours early at a stupid airport. So...if it involves flight, count me out!

The author forgets that what we will tolerate in America is different when we are at war - and make no mistake - we ARE at war. The epidemic will not be controlled by just having the elderly stay at home. Many younger individuals are also at higher risk because of their diabetes, cancer, lupus, etc. Moms, Dads and children will also die if people are allowed to get back to work as one respondent here suggests. This is a PUBLIC problem and we have corporate (group) responsibilities to protect one another. And based on prior such pandemics, the risk will over time disipate. Then we will for damn sure not put up with governmental control over our lives.

#8, We are cooperating, but we don’t have to like it because we can see the writing on the wall. Government never gives up power and anytime politicians see a “threat”, here we go again. They are setting precedent. It boggles my mind how the lust for power consumes some individuals. If they can wield power over others, they will. As far as I am concerned, my skepticism is well founded by a government that is corrupt, will not punish the rich and connected, and grabs power at the drop of a hat. I am compliant, but I am not happy about it because I know this is just the beginning of a government out to control us and rob of us our rights, for our own good, of course. /s/

The jury is still out but when the media manufactures the panic, the talking heads feed it like pablum to the masses, and the government takes advantage of it.... one should stay vigilent. As all good Commies know, it is easier to destroy than build. Can we restart the engine of business, can we claw back our rights?
It's not like our average citizen now is a Minute Man. Most are clueless, ill informed, and panicy. In the past half century they have shown us they are willing to throw away all their freedoms for momentary safety and pleasure, especially women. I have little faith in my 51% of the population.

Sorry to say, #8, we are NOT at war. This is neither the Blitz nor the plague Those so afraid of being caught up in the contagion they feel exists, please self-quarantine and leave the fools to their risk. Groceries can be delivered to their door. They have no need to expose themselves to those like us who are potential carriers of death. They may voluntarily give up their business, pay their employees for the government's proclamations. The Bill of Rights is still in effect.

Uh, no. As long as we are determined enough to protect our 2nd Amendment rights. All else depends upon that.

The ACTUAL seriousness of this outbreak was revealed clearly by Nancy Pelosi in her plot to put abortion rights and other liberal giveaway and taxpayer-abusive programs into the bill to help people who are victims of the virus. If she still feels free to play politics, it is not a serious problem. ALL Republican legislators should stand by Louis Gohmert and those who do not are being added to my list. Heaven help them on the day that we pull out our lists.

We are not at war. Previous 'pandemics' have been much more serious, but we didn't have a press which needs to rid itself of that pesky president, DJ Trump.
I recommend reading Michael Fumento's column here:

By the way, has the TSA stopped groping hordes of people at the airports yet? A government edict NEVER goes away. No matter the consequences.

One thing is for certain. Americans will never accept socialism. By the way has anyone received their thousand dollar check yet?

And the worst part is, even here, that some American citizens are screaming for our freedoms to be taken away. They hide under their beds insisting that the government force everyone else hide under their beds too. When we are no longer permitted to ever emerge from our place of safety, they will say the world has changed and we should be thankful.
Luckily, some percentage of Americans are not sheep. When good people decide they no longer have anything to lose, look out.

Every time someone says”we’re at war here” or “this is a war”, I know that they’ve never been in a war - and if the chance came to serve in a war, they’d find an excuse not to go.
We’re surrendering our rights because of some “state of emergency” declared by a mayor, or a governor. So far, every governor who’s declared a “state of emergency” and closed all the bars and restaurants and theaters is a Democrat. Coincidence? I think not.
