So, here we are.
Pretty much nobody’s going to school on Monday, thousands are working from home, stores are struggling to stock their shelves and health officials are scrambling to respond to an unknown number of patients who will be taken ill with COVID-19.
Unprecedented actions taken since Wednesday to halt the spread of the coronavirus, from the total shutdown of K-12 school districts to significant curtailment of public gatherings, will surely have significant social and economic costs.

This is a trial run for socialism! And so far, nobody is resisting.

We'll never know how many people actually had COVID-19 when this is all over. What we will know is how much freaking taxpayer money was spent for this fakery. People still have a little resistance, but what can you do if you're not affected by the closings? If I wanted to gather with a group of people, I would do it in spite of their suggestions or demands that I not. I'm resisting in my head, if nothing else. Like the YouTube lady said, "Wash your (freaking) hands!"

OP has a good point. Why no panic over the previous killer flu? This shutting everything down helter -skelter makes people think this virus is the Black Death or governments are hiding the fact that it’s some deadly bio weapon. I think precautions are in order to slow the spread but this is getting ridiculous. We also have the media doing their hysterical best to gin up a depression to hurt Trump instead of calmly giving objective and helpful news.

The media has been interviewing thousands of doctors all around the USA with each of those doctors given differing responses, consisting of narrowly to widely differing answers and opinions. That way the media is able to create controversy, a lot of it bogus, that has ended up causing panic in the population. Of course the liberal media is going to play down the two big pandemics that occurred during the Obama era along with the inadequate Obama Administration response, and is focusing almost 100% on trying to cast fraudulent blame on President Trump for causing the Chinese Wuhan corona virus, along with nitpicking every action and word that the Trump Administration takes.

Here's the answer to OP's and #3's question: There was no panic because the Halfican was president!

The Left has become so desperate to regain power that, like already many other have noted in other posts, they are politicizing covid-19 to make it seem like the Black Plague. This is a vast over-exaggeration, whose only purpose is to spread fear. The Left's endgame is to regain power-no matter how much money was thrown away during the Muller Investigation, the impeachment, the constant battles between the Administration and the lower circuit courts. WE ARE THE ENDGAME. CONTROL OF OUR MINDS, OUR LIVES, OUR VERY SOULS are what The Left, the Devil's minion's are after. They were succeeding quite nicely until Trump was elected-do you all see just how vicious they are? They are now praying for an economic collapse, hurting ALL Americans, just so they can go back to their evil social re-engineering programs.

I'm sure not everyone wants to believe facts and such about this virus, so it is likely pointless to suggest anyone actually learn them and what is likely to happen in the US if behaviors don't change (and even so the effects will be very bad). It is pretty clear that within the next few weeks the medical care system is going to be totally overwhelmed, there will be triage for the limited care capabilities that will be available, and those least able to recover will not. (Look at Italy, a total disaster right now, other EU countries are maybe a week behind, the US is maybe 2 weeks behind, and if you cut through the fog, China and Iran). Most recent models of the spread in the US show that fatalities could reach 1-1.5million (~0.3% of the whole population) or more. While the talking heads want to blame Trump, etc. the virus is not caring about politics, it will spread no matter what unless the spread rate is reduced by behaviors of the population. The virus will be around for months and infections will still be happening, perhaps at a reduced rate (and maybe total numbers) if behaviors change. Even if you don't particularly believe you will be affected, your behavior could affect your family members, your neighbors, or whomever you contact, so at least think of others. That is just factual reality whether you believe it or not.

This is a really interesting article, but two things: 1. At the end of the article where they show the graphs of other pandemics, the 2009 Swine Flu is mysteriously missing, why? 2. I have yet to have anyone answer this question -- why -- in 2009 -- were we not sounding the alarm that 61 million people could be infected? Was it okay then to accept that 12,000 - 18,000 people were going to die? It doesn't make sense.
