President Trump’s rhetoric is aimed at the heart of the American worker, but his policies have delivered one gut punch after another. Now three administration officials have confirmed plans to invite 45,000 seasonal guest workers this summer under the H-2B visa program—the most since Trump sailed into the White House on a working-class wave.
Record numbers of H-2B visas, moreover, is merely one car in a long train of lousy news delivered to the forgotten men and women who Trump promised “will be forgotten no longer.”
Thirty-four Republicans signed off on amnesty for an estimated 1.5 million foreign nationals.

So we could vote him out and elect the "democratic socialist". What about the "working class" then?

Normally I would agree with the author but if unemployment is at an all time low why not? If I weren't a couch potato I'd like to visit India and China and see if their work force is full of Americans.

Having lived on the coast of New England, I found most of these Seasonal Workers were foreign students working the summer season in the Hospitality Industry. The deal they are offered is room and board with plenty of time for sightseeing in exchange for work as waiters, maids etc.
When these visas were cut back, employers could not find enough people to fill the positions, due to the low wage, seasonal nature of the jobs. It was this Industry that lobbied for these visas.

One of our favorite restaurants in Vermont ski country has ended dinner service because they can’t find anyone to serve it. I am all for giving the bargaining advantage to American workers but...do not doubt Trump.

In calling on small to medium sized manufacturers all over the southeast, the biggest complaint I hear is that they can’t find enough qualified people, who actually want to work, to fill their needs. We can’t continue to grow without the workforce necessary to sustain that growth.

I'm in Dunedin, Florida for the winter. Every establishment has "help wanted" signs on their doors. Some resaurants must leave tables empty even while they have a wait because they don't have enough people to properly serve if the place was full.

READ: Seasonal Workers. Maids, Fruit Pickers, Waiters, Outdoor Facility Maintenance.... Last time I looked, there were little to no American workers willing to do this work for the hours and pay involved. I wish US citizens who wanted to work would take these jobs as they could be stepping stone to bigger and better things in the future. However, we have become accustomed to having it too easy and expect to have stuff handed to us and not have to work our way up anymore. If they want to come, let them. At least they would be coming here legally!

You lost me at "class", Mr. Marx. There are much more to people, their abilities, their resources, their options, dreams, decisions, aspirations, possessions.... than their need for employment.
President Trump has a job, a government job... before that he had several jobs. So he is the working class, right? And I have never seen President Trump betray America. He always puts America first. The decision isn't to help other countries at our expense, you have to know that. And 'what about me' isn't the entire picture.

You know what, he is. And he is also presiding over growing deficits committing my grandchildren to a life of servitude or risking the war that it could take to default. He's also wobbly on the 2nd amendment. But guess what? The only way we stand a chance to right this country is by breaking the stranglehold of the communist swamp ruling elites and he is doing more to accomplish that than anybody else could have. Anybody who thought we could reverse the 90 year slide toward statism in one administration had better think that through. I want to play long ball too but we have to survive first.

You have to remember, the President just turned the water back on in California and between the new trade deal with China, and more farm land available for planting, we are going to need the seasonal workers or crops will be rotting in the fields.

Sorry, Pedro, but the number of Help Wanted signs all over the country justifies an increase in temporary workers. I realized that you union people like to keep things in control but business must go on. It's not those who want to work who are the problem, it's the freeloaders.

When the United States virtually reaches full employment, it makes common sense to bring in additional workers from abroad. A strong economy requires growing businesses, and workers to fill them.
I have no problem with this.
Besides, look at the alternative. Comrade Bernie? Emperor Bloomberg? Befuddled Biden? Backstabber Romney?
I will stay with Trump.

Is this writer European/British? Because the ONLY people who ever harp on the phrase "working class" are people from these areas of the world, where they love to talk about Class and which ones "work" and which ones "don't". Americans don't do nobility! It used to be if you did NOT work, you did NOT eat, so whoever was NOT working was NOT elite, just lazy and worthless to society.
I really hate how European attitudes have infected American dialogue. We may have our own "class" system but it has ALWAYS been fluid and never fossilized. People have moved in and out of "different classes" all time, and it was usually because they either didnt work or they did.
"Working class" *spit* I hate that phrase. Banish the person who tries to say this is how America operates.

The reality is, the lack of workers is starting to drag on the economy. Allowing visas for workers where there are shortages makes sense. The restaurants near me are dying for help. Some have closed. Others are limiting hours based on staff availability. If they had the workers they could do twice as much business. There are NO MORE local workers available, period.

I have to agree that the H2B visa program really harms American workers. It lowers pay scales and makes it harder to find a job in tech jobs like engineering and programming, and these two trends tend to drive down the number of students who want to take STEM courses of study.
A very bad thing, H2B visas.

I will take guest workers with work visas any day over illegal aliens. This guy must be pro-union, because he knows that wages escalate in an inflationary way when the supply of workers dwindles.

I knew as soon as I saw the author's name it would be a skreed against Trump putting actual American workers first. I do not consider illegals Americans. Not them and not their anchor babies. Pedro is completely wrong on this and he needs a good schooling.

My mistake, I was mistaking H1B visas, often used to keep tech worker's pay lower, and the H2B seasonal worker visas.

Trump said in his 2019 SOTU speech: "I want people to come into our country in the largest numbers ever." It turns out he meant it, because he is expanding visa worker programs.
